  4. Review: I really like how every player gets their own color for their section. It really gives the article a visual pop. The only downside is that I had a little trouble reading Emeritus' and Lemiuex's sections due to the lack of contrast on my laptop. I really like in depth review of how they got to the team and what makes them stand apart. There is a good variety and none of the sections feels too repetitive. Solid 8/10 from me.
  5. Review: I don't know if I'm even allowed to review something of this magnitude of awesomeness, but I will try my best to do it justice. First off I love the layout almost as much as the content. The nice corporate art style photo at the beginning is right at home with a power point and it sets the stage perfectly. The sections are distinct and the topics don't cross over each other which is clear and concise. The meat of the article hits home for me as a newer user/player. When I first started I was driven away by my lack of focus which caused me to be stressed about getting point tasks done. However, now that I've returned, a much clearer approach like this has helped me a lot even with my schooling going on. This is definitely a solid 9.5/10 for me and I will certainly be taking some of this advice with me.
  6. John Baard, after being traded from Ottowa to the San Diego Marlins, has created an initiative to help underprivileged Ottowa Children through a sweater donation system. The idea first came to him when he was trying to figure out what he was going to do with his old sweaters he always wore under his pads to keep out the Ottawa cold. The first beneficiary of this effort is one such child, who goes by the name of Xue Pao Bing Bong who has received 37 pairs of unwashed double extra large branded Ottowa Lynx sweaters. The shipment also came with a note saying, "maybe these will help you hit the net and not the refs." This is in reference to a game in the recent past where Bong missed the goal so much that he struck a referee in the head and has since been left in a coma at the Queensway Carleton Hospital.

  10. Now comes the time to answer the age old question: Is Xue Piao Bing Bong a top forward. Let's look at the facts. Xue Piao Bing Bong currently has 66 TPE. This puts him on the second or third line of most minor league teams. Generally the definition of a "top forward" is being on the first to second line and having solid point contribution to the team(I'm defining this as at least .75 points per game). Now let's take this definition and apply it to our subject. After 6 games, Xue Piao Bing Bong has 3 points and is currently -5. This is certainly not conducive to top forward performance. However, Bong does have 30 hits which makes him, if not a top forward, certainly a scary one. My conclusion is a resounding no. Mr. Bong is at best a middle of the road depth piece with solid development potential. Maybe with time and dedicated training he could grow to have a large impact on a team in the future.

  12. What @16z said. If I had more time to write another 500 words then I would have gone more in depth.
  13. With a new season brings new beginnings and that is especially true for the teams of the VHLM, the place where all the fresh young faces of new players come to test their mettle to make it into the majors. The Ottawa Lynx are a hopeful team with a strong mix of veterans and bright rookies ready to grow to meet the challenge of this new season. I'll start this review off from the back with the goalie and work towards the forwards. Goalie - Alex Parise The Ottawa Netminder starts this season with 175 TPE to his name and he is ready to use it. In 8 starts with the Minnesota Storm the rookie Parise put up a respectable 0.838 Save Percentage and an average of 3.34 Goals Against. Not too shabby for a brand new goalie just breaking into the league. Size is the name of his game and he intends to use it. Parise is 6'8" and he makes the net seem tiny by comparison. He can use his size to cover high angles in the corners while not leaving other areas exposed. The only shortcoming to this play style is speed. If opposing teams can get Parise on the move laterally then it will be harder for him to pit his size to good use. Defense - New Player, Julia Waffles, and Ben Aky It is clear that when Ottawa was building this roster that they thought from the rear forward because the d-corps is tight. All three players that they currently have are above 180 TPE and they mean business. Last season, New Player, Julia Waffles, and Ben Aky combined for 132 points and they aren't going anywhere. Their main scoring threat here is Julia Waffles who is an elite shooter from the point who makes opposing forwards think twice about blocking a shot. New Player is a playmaker who can expertly create options anywhere on the ice. Ben Aky is more conservative offensively but is a perfect mirror for his teammates and can support the back end. A few waiver signings to add depth and this defensive group is gonna be elite. Forwards - Armani Calamari, John Baard, and Zen Raider On the offensive side of the puck we have three stand out players that make up the top line of this squad. The centerpiece is Armani Calamari, who was a waiver pick up last season for Philadelphia. While he had little time to develop last season, he has worked hard over the offseason and is ready for top line minutes with his new squad. Next we have the wings with Zen Raider and John Baard, These players are both incredibly good at what they do. Zen Raider is a hard-hitting physical player who can create space and make opposing skill players think twice about getting fancy with the dangles. Baard is a player that has the ability to string a pass through the most impossible angles and create plays from anywhere on the ice. Other notable forwards are Manny Chuclavi and Jacob Costello who will most likely man the wings on the second line. P.S. Happy Birthday VHL!!
