  1. As we are on the cusp of an expansion of the league to 12 teams I have decided to follow suit with everyone else in the league and create my own speculations on where a team could be placed. As a disclaimer these are my own suggestions for expansion locations and names and should be taken with a grain of salt as I am far from what anyone would call a creative. NA The Quebec Seigneur: One of the current shocks is that the province of hockey in Canada does not currently have a VHL team. This is a travesty that must clearly be rectified as soon as possible. Creating a name for any Quebec team however is not small task. I landed on the Quebec Seigneurs referencing the pre Canadian system that Quebec used to have in place. I feel that for any Quebecois team it needs to be unique and have roots in French culture. Florida Crocs: Florida in my opinion is not large enough to support two teams, as a result it should support a singular team that would provide VHL with another low tax rate team to steal away all the free agents. Hockey in Florida has been growing in the past number of years and while it may not be as popular as some of the other places in Canada and the US it should not be dismissed out of hand. When developing the name of the team I could not think of a better one than the Florida Crocs. This is due in part to the abundance of crocodiles in Florida but also due to the ferocity of the animals and the strong imagery that could be created. Boston Minutemen / Bullies : As much as I hate Boston, their hockey culture is undeniable and would fuel many rivalries for decades to come. As such they unfortunately deserve a team, where else would all the goons go? I was torn on what to call them so I came up with two names for them. Due to their history in the war of independence, I feel like the Boston minutemen would be a very solid name. It has historical significance and would represent the city well. The second one that I came up with, the Boston Bullies, is however my favorite. I feel like it rolls off the tongue better and frankly would pump up the fanbase. EU Berlin Blitz: If you were planning to add a franchise to Berlin how could you not call them the Blitz. While perhaps not the best choice on this list Berlin would be an interesting one. Situated in the north of Europe it would draw support from the Scandinavian countries that don’t have a team and provide the Riga Reign and Moscow Menace a worthwhile rival. Istanbul Sultans: While Istanbul might at first glance seem like a bit of an odd choice for a franchise, it is a very populous city of 15 million and could be a good stepping stone to bringing the game into Asia. Rome Centurions: The name says it all, being in central Europe Rome has the advantage of being easily accessible by more than half the European continent. As an added competitive edge, they likely have the best pregame spaghetti in the world. Paris Old Guard: Referencing Napoleons historic elite infantry would be a good starting point for a team name. While France currently does not have a large hockey culture that would slowly start to change with the addition of a major franchise to their largest city and capital. London BullDogs: Like most of Europe, England does not play very much ice hockey due to climate related issues. However it has developed a very robust field hockey culture that would be strait forward to tap into to create a fanbase from. There is also the potential that any team in the UK would get support from the hockey leagues in Scotland and could potentially rally the country around the team to distract itself from other world issues.
  2. 1. Some noteworthy names have recreated (or even reappeared) this season after the deadline--Beaviss, omgitshim, and STZ, to name a few. All three went to Philadelphia, a team with a good shot at the cup. Do they, in your opinion, have the time that they need to develop into significant players for their team, or are they simply too far behind as far as this season is concerned? as far as this season is concerned they have arrived too late, despite them being helped by carry over tpe they are still to far short to be of any real impact. 2. If you've seen the "unban boubabi" discussion around the site, do you have an opinion? If so, what is it and why? I have not been around long enough to have much of a say on the matter. 3. What's your favorite band that I've never heard of? Marrilion but only the Script for a jesters tear album 4. What's your favorite sport that isn't hockey? Football 5. If you were a GM, what kind of strategy would you go for? Anything that would make the way you would run a team unique? I would build my team around goalscoring wingers who can put up points and a really solid goalie. I am not sure if this would make the team unique but perhaps it might. 6. All of you are (or at least have been, at some point) free agents. What advice would you give to someone who enters the league after the draft and has to sign with someone? Have fun and sign with whoever you think can help you succeed.
  3. I never claimed to be good at spelling haha. I legitimately thought it was Victory hockey Minor Leagues
  4. To the Gm and AGM of the VHML With the upcoming VHML draft on everyones mind I think it is time to start to sell myself to the gms of the different teams. I believe I should go early in the draft as I am a constant grower, have focused on the right stats and most importantly won't be going up the the big league next season so there is no worry about losing me after the draft. I want to aim to win a cup this year in the VHML to cap my minor league carer and give me some high pressure playoff experience. If you are a GM and are looking for a star C for next season hit me up and we can discuss how to build a team that can win a cup. As always the draft will be a fun experience, while this post is directed primarily at the VHML if you value a active and future star C on your VHL team send me a message and perhaps I will be the dark horse pick.

  8. 1. The trade deadline is come and gone, and today we yeeted traded our top forward, Jaxon Walker, for a 2nd-round draft pick. Was this a good move? Would you consider our rebuild this season a success? I would think so, we did not have the team this year to win and by making those moves the hounds have managed to collect enough picks to put together a championship team next year. 2. In another move made today, we brought back a Hounds alum, @GlowyGoat, by sending a 4th-round pick to Vegas for his goalie, who figures to be a backup this season and have a spot on the roster for at least the next one. Was this a good move, or is it too contrary to our selling strategy to make sense? A fourth round is not huge and having loyalty to alumni can help retain talent. 3. Having played for a team that isn't that great this season, would you do it all over again next season, or would you prefer to be on a winning team? i really like our team identity and characters we have in the locker room. I did not expect to win this year and have learned from our group plenty. 4. What are your expectations for the team and your player for the rest of the season? To play good minutes and put up points. 5. Since we're the Hounds, what's your favorite breed of dog? golden retriever 6. What are your opinions on last season's Seattle draft class being disproportionately made up of Hounds players? Does @Banackock spend an unhealthy amount of time in our locker room? Will he be picking you in the coming draft? I have no idea, whatever team I end up with I will help succeed to the best of my ability.
  9. Hey @Telkster please quote this to confirm I recruited you!
  10. 231 Moscow Menace @ Seattle Bears 232 HC Davos Dynamo @ Riga Reign 233 Calgary Wranglers @ New York Americans 234 Toronto Legion @ Helsinki Titans
  11. It is any more fair than gaining points because someone put your name down? It would also help keep interest as they would have visible milestones to strive towards and try and achieve. On top of it all 15 points does not seem killer but that is just my 0.02c
  12. It might be a good idea to give both the recruit and the recruiter the tpe points. It seems just a bit odd that only the recruiter gets a bonus and there is no incentive at all for the recruit to have a recruiter at all. I might not be voicing my thoughts very well so I apologize for that. But giving 15 extra points to a new recruit scaled at the same rate as the recruiter would be huge for a new player and give a incentive to keep on growing to hit the milestones.
  13. Balentine Kidd 6'1" 194 lb Center/RW 16 years old Kidd was born and raised a small village in Suffolk, England. He grew up playing field hockey were he could and soon discovered he had a talent for shutting down offensive plays. This helped him translate his play onto the ice where he now shines as one of the most comfortable players on the ice. He played two seasons for the Ipswitch IceCats and a season in the BMHL (British Minor Hockey League) for the Bury St. Edmund Badgers putting up. While Kidd may look a couple years above his age this is often used to intimidate opponents very effectively as they often take their foot off the gas when playing against him. Pro Defensive Awareness: Due to his upbringing as a farmers boy he is very aware of his surroundings. This leads to him being in the right place at the right time more often than most other players. This is a crucial corner stone of his game as it enables him to fully utilize his flashy offensive skills while not being a detriment to his team. He is known in the BMHL (British Minor Hockey League) for having set the record for +/- in a season at +73. Face-off: The most important part of a centers skill set is his skill in the face-off circle. He has shown tremendous consistency at controlling the puck and play during the face-off and he rarely losses. His last years stats in the face-off circle playing for the Bury St. Edmund Badgers was 54%. Shooting: Always a flashy player Balentine Kidd spent a huge amount of time as a child on his field hockey shot. As shoting in field hockey is more limited he had to get creative with his technique. This shows on the ice as he often bamboozles the opposing goalie with his "silky smooth mits". He is specifically known for his snapshot and wrist shot which are developed well beyond his age. His snapshot needs some work but that was never a key asset in his play style. Con Hitting: Being small of stature Balentine Kidd is not he most effective physical player. He has shown that while he is not delicate, he is injury prone to a poor knee due to a childhood accident. This drawback can however be mitigated by having a stronger player on his wing to help him. With any luck he should grow into a bigger frame and develop more durability. Comprehension: Due to his thick countryside accent his teammates have trouble understanding him, this has lead to confusion a handful of times. He communicates as a result via pointing and grunting. Due to the limited nature of this type of communication he often as trouble talking to referees about poor calls. Temper: Balentine Kidd while being a good player off the ice has a quik fuse on the ice. He can often be heard shouting illegibly at the referees and the opposing bench. This is a fairly serious downside as he is not large enough to hold his own in a fight and results in him suffering minor injuries on a regular occurrence.
  14. To the VHL Community, As a new player being constantly active is a bit intimidating and I have no idea if I can continue my newfound stream of mediocre content. This has got me thinking, would there be a way to automate a 250 word post every week using neural networks. Would it be possible to scrape word use from all the posts that active members create on a weekly basis and come up with talking points that people seem to bring up more often than others. You could in theory use premade software such as Article forge however this might end up costing the user far more than it is worth in licencing fees from the software itself. While I see this as a very real possibility I feel like it also completely defeats the point of the purpose of doing these exercises. That being to keep the community actively engaged with one another and active. I hope you enjoyed hearing my thoughts on such a meta topic
  15. This is my first article so take it easy on me. I have just signed my first ELC with the Mississagua Greyhounds and will be sharing the C slot. While I don't expect my first season in the minor leagues to be hugely productive I believe I should set out some goals for myself. I realize that I am joining in midseason but I will do my best to not let that stop me. I plan on scoring at least 10 goals in the reminder of this season while putting up a 25 point total. I have had a huge amount of support from the staff and players in the Mississagua Greyhounds and without this support I would be entirely out of my depth. They have started to train me in what to focus on as it relates to my game. Of course I will take these words to heart and I have already noticed improvements especially in the areas of my Defence and Face-offs. With any luck after the following season I will have caught to eye of some of the larger league scouts and I can see where my career takes me. Balentine Kidd
  16. 1. Fill me in on what happened last week, when I wasn't on the site. I joined the squad, but you kinda invited me so idk. 2. You can pick any person, real or fictional, to join our team (it doesn't have to be a hockey player). Who do you choose and why? I would think that Husain bolt might be a good addition, he would easily be able to outspend anyone. 3. Do you know much about VHL teams at the moment? Who do you hope drafts you next season? I know next to nothing and have no idea who would even be interested in me. 4. Let's say it's eight seasons from now and you're making a second player. Do you have any ideas in particular? Likely a goaltender as it would be entirely different 5. Let's also say the league is expanding, and you can put a new team wherever you want. Where do you put it, and what do you name it? Sherbrooke Sealords 6. Every season, jobs in management open up in the VHLM, whether it's a GM job or an AGM job. If one of these opens up, would you be interested in applying? Any teams in particular you'd like to manage? No, I want to get a handle on how to play as a player before I do anything more than that
  17. What superstitions does your player have? Have you spent much time around Mississauga, if so what do you think? What is the weirdest thing you have seen from our team off the ice? What could be done to improve the locker room (ie. Discord or Forums)? For new players it is the job of Gustav and myself to sell the team to get others to join, what would be your sales pitch? Have you talked to anyone in the league outside of our team? 1. I have always been scared of the number 3, don't know what about it scares me but I always stay away from it on game days. 2. Pretty quiet town but that is good, I can focus on my game. 3. You know I am not allowed to talk about rookie parties 4. I really could not tell you as I am still fairly green 5. You have me on the team now. 6. Yes, The other C Liam and I know each other and we hope that translates into on ice chemistry
