Nah, just the difference between the teams from the start, Brampton is one of the deepest teams in the VHLM. Would rather have ya there than nobody, and Jackson's coming along quite nicely. Let's win the damn thing.

    Jefferson Jackson, helping or hurting?

This young hockey kid, Jefferson Jackson, seems to have started to play better in the playoffs with six points in 12 games but is a staggering -7 in his +/- on the ice. Never do you want to see any negative in the +/- category but to have that high of a number in only 12 games is extremely concerning. Obviously it doesn’t help that Jackson is still really raw in almost every part of his game but he should be helping the team win more than he is now. On his play, he had this to say:

With the recent performances of Jefferson Jackson, it seems like most VHL scouts won’t give him the light of day anymore. The once highly touted player from San Jose is now struggling to find any consistent from with the Minot Gladiators of the VHLM. With Minot down 3-2 in the playoffs, Jackson released a statement earlier today voicing his frustration with his performances and how he has not lived up to his own expectations of his play. He isn’t the only one taking notice of his struggles with VHL and VHLM scouts paying him little to no attention when they watch the Minot games.

A VHL scout was on record as saying:

Even a VHLM scout said this about Jefferson Jackson:

So what does this mean for Jefferson Jackson as we look into next season and beyond? I would say that it means Jackson will struggle to find considerable ice time unless he can find an organization that would spend the time necessary to fix his fundamentals. If an organization is willing to take a chance and spend the time needed to make Jackson’s game more sound, Jackson may be able to realize the potential everyone saw in him just a short time ago.

If Jackson can fix the major flaw in his game, VHL scouts and GMs may be more willing to come and spend time with Jackson in hopes that he may have a brighter future than being currently projected. However, with so much young, fundamentally sound talent in the VHLM already, one has to think that they would take priority over a project player in Jackson.

This next season will be the one where Jackson really has to shine as he looks to impress scouts. Since he will automatically be placed into the S44 VHL draft, it will be up to him to determine what the scouts believe he can do on the ice. Jackson will have to show if his work ethic and determination to be great is there or if he will be the next “prodigy” to not live up to the early hype.

After a solid start for Jefferson Jackson in Minot, the teenager has really struggled of late in his play. Through 20 games, Jackson has only had a mere 10 points, the majority of which came in his first dozen games. As for why the recent struggles, the decrease in ice time as well as the lack of scoring threats on the ice with him, certainly plays a huge role. For more on the topic we asked Jackson himself and this is what he had to say:

It’s obvious that Jefferson Jackson has a really high work ethic, that’s for sure. For someone who dominated the game at a young age like Jackson did, he hasn’t banked on that success carrying him in the professional ranks as he has quickly become one of the hardest workers on the squad. Even though he works hard to improve, his skill set is still so raw that he looks like a teenager going up against men every game and every day in practice. The coaching staff had this to say on Jackson:

Again some high praise for the kid who looks outmatched and lost on the ice at times. While he has the work ethic and potential, time will tell if that potential materializes into talent.

Now eleven games into his VHLM career, the young hockey star from California has put up a solid six points with an even three goals and three assists. Jefferson Jackson has been solid in his time on the ice and is starting to gain more of the coaching staff’s confidence. With some solid coaching, his passing has started to become exceptional and with his great ice vision, it becomes so much easier to find teammates. With teammate Vogon Jeltz scoring a league best 114 goals through 59 games, Jefferson knows who to give the puck too close to the net.

Even with his added passing ability, his shot still remains wildly inconsistent and has yet to become a focal point in his development. However, the coaching staff remains confident that he has the ability to score the puck once he becomes consistent in his shot. Rumors are that they will hire a left-handed shooting specialist to help Jefferson Jackson with his shooting abilities in the coming weeks. Until then, be prepared to see a lot of his shots go off target.

    Jefferson Jackson starts his career

The hockey star of San Jose, California has announced his intentions to join the VHL through their VHLM league and forgo his senior year of high school as well as the opportunity to go to college. Jefferson Jackson has been highly touted in the San Jose area for some time for his great abilities at such a young age and it will be interesting to see if Jackson can make a successful jump to the professional ranks. Jefferson Jackson led his club hockey team to a divisional championship, scoring 18 points (8 goals, 10 assists) in the 8 game tournament and looked like a player that was better than the competition in almost every facet of the game.

The main reason Jefferson Jackson is rumored to have made the move to the VHLM is because of the great prestige of the VHL and his want to make his mark on the professional ranks as soon as possible. With the vast amount of talent the league has, he figured playing against the best early on would only make him a better player in the long-run.

Just because he’s making the jump to the VHLM instead of his senior year of high school, don’t expect him to go immediately into the VHL but rather play in the VHLM for the remainder of this season and all of next season until he makes the jump to the VHL. The future looks bright for this young kid and let’s hope the light will shine bright for some time.
