  1. Matty Socks, a fairly new recruit to the Las Vegas Aces, started his season well with a few assists. By game 64 against the Houston Bulls, Socks built up his momentum to come out as one of the stars for the Aces for the first time in his career. With two of the Aces' seven goals, Socks showed up and proved to his team that he was a strong recruit. It wasn't until game 77 against the Ottawa Lynx that defenseman Matty Socks had a negative +/- in a game, ending with one assist and a -3. Soon after in game 79 against the San Diego Marlins, Socks redeemed his record with one goal, one assist, and a +2. Socks coasted for a while with low but steady performances, averaging around 1 assist per game. Since game 123, Socks' +/- have been taking hard hits, often on the ice during the opposing teams' goals. With lessening assists, Socks will need to up his game if he hopes to keep up with his teammates, especially a strong first defensive line.
  2. You can count on it. Slamming Apple is almost a personality trait at this point :)
  3. 1. I'd say that strong team determination and commitment paired with a high-performing goalie have served us well!! If we keep it up, I think we've got a good season ahead of us!! 2. I feel pretty good about the start I've had overall. I've gotten a fair amount of assists, but of course, I'm looking forward to hopefully boosting that number. 3. While I'm working toward improvement in every aspect, I'm hoping to pull through with more goals! 4. We need to be sure to keep focused - never get too comfy with a good record!! 5. Jeff @NyQuil Blaze has consistently performed really well playing a really good offensive game. Nils @Biggreen10 Friedriksen also shows up and defends the goal like it's exactly what he was born to do!! 6. While I'm brand new to the VHLM, I'd say that first defensive line with Alex @Spartan Letang & Micah @Poptart Adrienne have worked really well together since I've joined!
  4. Matthew (Matty) Socks grew up in Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada. As a young boy, he followed closely after his father's dedicated example to hockey. With posters hung around his bedroom of players, old and new, from his and his dad's favorite team. Each game, he and his dad had a tradition: set up camp in the living room and munch on nachos. Together, Matty and his father went skating at the local rink beginning when he was just 4 years old. At the ripe age of 7 years old, Socks began playing hockey at a local youth hockey club with dreams of becoming the next greatest defenseman. What he didn't expect, however, was the time, effort, and determination it would take to come out on top. Despite his excitement, Socks didn't truly commit to the game until he heard one of his favorite players in a press conference reminiscing about the hours spent in the rink as a youth. Inspired by his role model, Socks decided to take the next step and join his local team. Young but ambitious, Socks got on the ice and worked hard with his teams. Each game, with the support of his parents just behind the glass, a determined Socks showed up ready to give his all to the team and the game. The older he got, the more time he put on the ice, in and outside of practice. His old coaches tell us that he and his best mate, a fellow teammate, would show up early and stay late to nearly every practice. "Those two put more time on the ice than most of the other boys on the team," he told us. "It was really motivating for his teammates to watch him grow as a player and a leader." When he turned 18, Socks realized that time alone wouldn't improve his skills. It was the mindset, too. Up to that point, Socks wasn't setting records, but he certainly was getting close. "I spent a lot of time trying to be the best," Socks told us, "but that's just not the goal. The goal is to create a strong team. Individual players can only take a team so far. Realizing that 3 years ago changed the game." And that's true: Socks led his team to the championships just this past year. Leading his team in assists in his last season before joining the Las Vegas Aces, Socks showed up and is ready for a strong first season in the VHLM.
  5. 1. The first game went well! I got my first assist, which felt pretty good, so I have high hopes. 2. I feel pretty good about the first week. LVA is off to a strong start, and I'm excited to see where we go as a team this season! 3. I may be brand new, but I've got a good feeling about the team. If we keep practicing hard and grinding on the skills we need, I think we'll be proud of where we end up. 4. Peace signs, obviously. Keep it fresh. 5. 1975 Reasons Why It's Sock Sock Shoe Shoe, not Sock Shoe Sock Shoe. 6. I call my mom, 100%.
  6. 1. I've been watching lots of highlights from past games to think about ways to improve!! 2. I'm not on the team, I just needed a place to do the press conference. @Spartan is pretty rad though. 3. I've been defending myself against the virus. Defenseman through and through!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 4. Again, I'm not on the team, but @Spartan is still pretty cool. I'm sure that'd be pretty cool. 5. The ace of hearts seems appropriate. 6. At this point, I'm just trying to get a grip on what's going on and how the league functions.
