Well, another trade deadline has passed, meaning all new creates and recreates will be entering the season 76 draft class. Looking at this list and speaking for myself (and perhaps you've noticed as well), there's something crazy about this draft class that I haven't seen since I joined (regularly) in Spring of 2020.
If you haven't noticed, I'll tell ya...
OVER THREE-HUNDRED NEW CREATES/RECREATES
Yeah, you read/saw that right. Currently in the VHLM, some teams are playing 4th liners. That's how far the VHL has come and it's a testament to the solid and continued effort of recruitment, word-of-mouth, advertising (shameless plugs, wherever those are), it's been ridiculous how many new folks have shown an interest. It's up to the VHLM management teams and dudes like myself to help with retention, and so far I personally believe it's paying off.
Ok so we got the warm and fuzzy feels outta da way, here's the big question mark:
VHL Draft is: Four rounds, 16 picks per round. That's 64 selections to be made into VHL prospects.
...that's roughly 20% of draft eligible players getting their name called...
I don't know what happens in instances like this, but I'm sure things will sort themselves out.
I'll provide a brief First Round semi-kinda mock draft thing here. For everyone that doesn't know the VHL Draft rules, there's a rule that a GM player can reserve his player for his team. It must be a first round selection, and he must have a pick in the first round. If he created a player and wants to draft him, but he traded his first round pick away, he cannot make the reservation, unless he falls into his lap in the second round.
Three of the TOP 5 selections are GM players:
Taro Tsujimoto @GustavMattias will likely not be the 1st overall pick, as he will be reserved for the HC Davos Dynamo club.
Muffbeav @.sniffuM might go 1st overall to Warsaw if they finish last. He may or may not reserve the player in this case if he's feeling lucky.
Sirkants Klamasteris @hedgehog337 will most likely be reserved for the Riga Reign. He may not. What do I know? I'm just speculating.
Trade scenarios during the end of the post-season and at the draft are very possible, some GMs try to trade down when they have a reserved pick to get some extra assets for their club. If you want an example, go check out the S73 Draft Class, where the (arguably) top TPE earner was Malmo GMs Marshall James Frostbeard, who was drafted 16th overall, the final pick of the first round.
Check out the (MASSIVE) season 75 draft class below. Some players have their dates highlighted in orange and some red. Orange means they haven't updated in two weeks, Red meaning no progression for over two weeks. These players will likely fall, meaning if you're in a good spot to be selected..
KEEP EARNING!!!!
Well I hope some of the community rookies learned something here, most of us that are regulars here can help out with anything. We were all once in your shoes, then once you get a little more involved, it does get pretty cool I must say. Have fun!

33 games into the season and the San Diego Marlins seem to have found their rhythm and they are grooving quite nicely with one another. While some familiar faces from the rebuilding team returned, most of the team was formed throughout the draft and a trade or two and it is clear that drafting seems to be some of the best strats around. We're going to look at some of the key contributors of the team based on their stats:
Goals: John Merrick (29), Pietro Angellini (26), Roadkill Steve (24)
Assists: Han Jae Kuk (44), Pietro Angellini (37), Lucifer Olivier Leveque (37)
Points: Pietro Angellini (63), John Merrick (62), Lucifer Olivier Leveque (50)
+/-: John Merrick (+29), Lucifier Olivier Leveque (+25), Pietro Angellini (+21)
HITS: John LeClair II (163), Joakim Lund (95), Lester Green (90)
As we can see, there is a clear "top line" factor going on in San Diego, while the playing minutes are maxed for most if not all the major names on the team, the forward core is heavily lead by that of 1st overall pick John Merrick and former 42nd overall pick and tradee Pietro Angellini.
On the defense side of things, the pairing of Lucifier Olivier Leveque and Han Jae Kuk seem to be working their magic as they help the team secure some crucial points.
Finally our big heavy hitter with almost a 100 hit lead on our second place John LeClair II is showing people how its done, we're seeing signs of former Marlin Thomas Landry II who was the toughest man in the VHLM during his stint with us.
Overall, an amazing group, everyone is active and having fun and just good times, and we're going to continue.
Hello, and welcome to the first edition of a new season of Under 250: The VHLM Report. In these series, we will be taking a look at the trends and topics from the past week in the VHLM. What twists and turns will our minor league hold? Stay tuned to find out!
The Review
Eighteen games into the season and we have already found a hierarchy of teams to make up the standings. The Western Conference is leading the way with high performing teams, while the Eastern Conference is more balanced throughout, as even its worst two teams have found some small successes.
The Saskatoon Wild lead the league with 35 points, two ahead of their conference rivals, the Yukon Rush. The Las Vegas Aces follow closely behind, as this trio forms a juggernaut top three for the Western Conference. Filling the fourth position is the Mexico City Kings who, while not having quite the same record as the aforementioned teams, stand with a positive goal difference and a respectable 22 points, 15 more than the fifth placed San Diego Marlins. Filling out the West is the last-placed Houston Bulls, whose 4 points is worst across both conferences.
Going now to the Eastern Conference we have perhaps the pre-season favorites in the Halifax 21st given their nine picks in the first three rounds of the draft. They are living up to the hype, and lead the East with 34 points, just one behind the Wild for overall first place. Next come the Mississauga Hounds with 28 points, but this is where things get a little muddy. No other team in the conference has a positive goal difference, but both the third place Ottawa Lynx and the fourth place Philadelphia Reapers have 20 points or greater. While the Minnesota Storm and Miami Marauders, who met in last season’s Founder’s Cup Finals, may have more points than their counterparts in the West, neither look likely to catch the Reapers and make the playoffs. You never know, but it does seem like all of our eight playoff teams are more or less set just a quarter of the way into the season.
This rounds out our review of the standings. Let’s take a look at our ELO charts to see who has been our highest performers as of late, points notwithstanding.
The Teams
The Halifax 21st lead the ELO charts, as they have for the whole season, but in a somewhat curious fashion. The 21st has just one player in the top ten for points, Michael Hall, whose 37 points through 20 games places him fifth overall. They do it through a combination of depth scoring and killer defense/goaltending. 11 of their players have already reached the 10 point mark, and six of them are scoring at a point per game. On the other side of the ice, the 21st has allowed just 30 goals against, the lowest in the league by 16 goals, giving them the best goal differential despite scoring 17 less than Saskatoon. This is in a large part thanks to the fabulous goaltending thus far of Kevin Malone, whose .923 SV% is a league best for a starter, and whose 1.5 GAA puts VHL teams to shame. With a quarter of his games coming in the form of shutouts, the American goaltender is looking like a prime goaltender of the year contender.
Following the 21st is Las Vegas, who lead their Western conference rivals Saskatoon and Yukon in ELO despite trailing both in the standings. Led by star right winger Gary Rush, the Aces also dominate both sides of the ice, and have the next best defensive record after the 21st thanks to their blue line general, Kasper Kankkunen. The London United prospect is vital to the Aces defense, and is proving just what he can do once he makes his move to the big leagues.
The Wild closely follow the Aces in ELO, as they have for most of the season. While the Aces and the 21st may have the most balanced teams, the Wild have the deadliest. With a league leading 105 goals scored in just 20 games for an average of 5.25 goals per game, the Wild have four of the top ten point scorers, the most of any team. This includes current MVP favorite Brian Strong Jr., whose league leading 28 goals and league leading 33 assists (tied with teammate Florent Vericel) combine for a league high 61 points. The center is currently scoring at a 3 PPG pace, and has just been an absolute revelation thus far.
Next we have the Yukon Rush in the charts. They are about where you would expect from their standings bar them sitting behind the Aces. They are a very deep team, with top, top, quality across the board. They have a well balanced squad with a plethora of options at all positions; their only current weakness is goaltending. Both Kloxified and Artem Tretiak are young goaltenders, and while both are rapidly improving, they need to do better if the Rush want to contest for the cup. Yukon’s strength definitely lies in their blue line, which has some very big names represented, and look to be strong come playoffs.
Rounding out the teams sitting above 1100 in the charts is the Mississauga Hounds. The Hounds certainly have some strong players, including young defensive studs of L and R, but they have a lot of growth to do if they want to compete with the likes of Halifax or Saskatoon. Their goaltender Vsevolod Askarov is a great player, whose talent outweighs his poor statistical performances thus far in the season. It has been Taro Tsujimoto, however, who has impressed the most, sitting at fourth overall for points scored and really is the one star player on the team.
This is where the talent starts to drop off somewhat. The Kings are certainly a good squad, but lack the depth to compete with the big dogs this season. Following them and rounding out our playoff teams is Ottawa and Philadelphia, each of whom have strong teams but have been unable to string together the kind of performances we have become accustomed to seeing from the top four or five teams. Really these two teams have been slightly underperforming; expect them to possibly improve in the coming games.
Our next two teams were very evenly matched last season, but this season both Miami and Minnesota are in their cup run hangovers. We think that out of the two, Miami probably has more potential, with the likes of Rara Rasputin, of the famous Alfredsson agency, in net, as well as a reasonably solid blue line. Minnesota has a solid goaltender as well in Michael Olson, but lacks the depth in their other positions to mount a serious playoff challenge. Next comes the Marlins, who are struggling to find points. One brightside is they have a young team, with players like Lauri Korpikoski who can grow into the league in future seasons. Finally we have the worst team in the league by ELO and standings, the Houston Bulls. They are also a project team, with some very exciting prospects such as Vladimir Mlinksi, Ryan Ryker, and Kunibuni UnGuri, but have little to look forward to this season, as their 2-18-0 record can attest.
That’s all for this edition of Under 250: The VHLM Review. Thank you all for reading, and stay tuned next week for the inside scoop on all that’s going on in the league. Until next time!
Welcome back to another review session with me. Last week we had Saskatoon, now we have the San Diego Marlins. Their logo looks alright but to me it’s kinda gross. But just because it’s a fish and the colours make it feel and look slimy. Just me? Okay then. Let’s get straight to it then!
Team Review
The first draft that the Marlins were involved in were the S65 expansion draft. In that draft, they had 3 picks. They owned the 2nd, 5th and 8th overall picks. The Marlins are a relatively new team in the minors but they have nurtured many great players in the VHL currently. Example of great players that have step foot in this club are Pietro Angellini @okifenoki, Phil Marleau @Phil, Alex Bridges @Alex Bridges etc. Roadkill Steve @stevo has the most goals, assists and points in the club’s history but has never played a single VHL game and is now currently in depreciation. The current roster of the Marlins is not at its best, with 0 players passing the 150 tpe mark. Their highest earning player is Nathaniel N, at 133. San Diego had an above average run last season with 90 points and 5th place in the overall standings. Furthermore, they have never won an award since S70. When will their next award come?
Trade Review
September 9th saw 2 trades from the Marlins as their GM @InstantRockstar sent a S74 picks for 1 S75 pick. The 3 picks that was sent away turned out to be Haydon Learmonth, Da Man and Gaspar Zakrevsky. 2 picks were 5th rounders and the other was a 4th rounder. The second trade on the same day was with Las Vegas, sending Joakim Lund @Bouncyelf away for a S76 3rd and S75 6th. Lund is a welfare and practice facility claimer and has recently claimed is first gen bonus! A great addition to the already talented Sin city team. The third trade of the season so far is big. The Marlins send Lucifer Olivier Leveque to Yukon. In exchange for a S75 1st and S76 2nd. The conclusion of this is that San Diego is in a rebuilding state and is stocking up picks for the 2 upcoming seasons. These are all great moves by IR and Moose @IamMOOSE to help build a team that has what it takes to be succeed in the M.
Player Review
Nathaniel N @NathanN – He’s an average player to be honest with all of you. He chose to go with a playmaker build rather than a scorer and that is not going to immensely help the Marlins. Nathaniel had 31 points last season playing for the same team. His earning has recently gone back to being consistent. Nathan missed 1 full month of updates, making him considered as an inactive to some GMs. It’s great to see someone come back to the VHL once they have gone inactive for a while. Unfortunately, he is the highest earner so far for the Marlis.
Logan Hoffman @nickthe00 – Their second highest earner at 94 tpe, so close to that first-gen bonus! Keep it up buddy! For close to a month, he’s only been earning 2 tpe every week but that has changed as he’s claiming welfare too. But still not the best for the Marlins. In 72 games last season, he had 4 points. His stats have greatly improved this season, which came with the higher earning and better ratings. His scoring sits at 72 with no tpe spent on passing yet. Still he has a rather even point distribution with 5G and 4A.
Bjorn Wilhelm von Luxembourg @d3vilsfire – At 82 tpe, Bjorn has 10 points in the 12 games he has played this season. With 15 shots blocked, the German is definitely good in the D zone of the ice. His build is good, with him focusing on being a playmaker on the ice with good defensive qualities. He started to claim welfare after claiming 2 media spots right after joining the league. Oh no, is he inactive? He hasn’t claim any tpe since the week ending July 26. The Marlins need help in the O zone and him being inactive doesn’t seem to bother his stats at all.
Isaac @Isaac – This is another interesting one. He has 36 tpe banked and 0 applied to the ratings. 36 tpe, what a number. I hate to say it but it’s another inactive. His last claim was the week ending August 30 and that’s closing in on 1 month. However, Isaac already has 6 points in his rookie season. He was drafted by San Diego at 68th overall so no one can ask for much here. Towards the end of the M draft, this always happens.
*Both Isaac and Bjorn are likely to be replaced in the future as they are most likely not going to show any further improvement*
Lauri Korpikoski @Jansgasm – Back to great news, Jansgasm is active. It’s still too soon to tell if the earning will be consistent but considering that Jansgasm’s first player was created in June, I’m quite sure it’ll be consistent. Starting off with a base tpe of 54 sure helped! Lauri has 6 points so far into the season. With 33 hits and only 6 penalty minutes, Lauri Korpikoski sure is knows how to make clean hits on the ice. The scoring and passing ratings are even at 46 and 47 respectively so I’m not too sure what kind of build Lauri will have.
Michael Fletcher @DragonFire420 – Their only goalie has a save % of 0.865 and 4.4 GAA. There isn’t much to say when your team is 2-9-1 right now. He’s put into a starter position immediately after joining so that’s great experience and playing time he’s getting at the moment. Starting with 48 tpe, he’s earning welfare, practice facility and trivia and that got him to 62 tpe in 2 weeks. So keep earning and improving.
That does it for the San Diego Marlins. IR, keep up the great work along with the help of Moose. There are great plans set for this team and their GM is a great guy. I know and everyone knows, having him in the locker room is awesome. All the best to the Marlins! Next one, Philadelphia Reapers! @FrostBeard
