I just love drafts. There is something about them that just gets me all excited. I have been the most productive today than I have been in weeks just because I know there's a draft tonight. I'm taking a break from my 3rd lab right now to write this because I simply need to type things quickly and get it out into a beautiful text box. Landon Wolanin, my beautiful new player is ranked 12th in his class now apparently and considering Jacob Carson finished his career 25th in his class I'm ecstatic. I honestly just learned that these VHL.com articles exist, and that I can do them and they're not too crazy and 2 whole TPE? With the boost to welfare this may be the way to go. I always have a hard time pushing much further than the ~350 word mark unless I have a really expansive topic so this is nice. Anyways, best of luck to all of the VHLM GMs and Prospects tonight!

This interview was conducted on the 23rd of January 2022 by a rubber duck floating in a bathtub. Who inspires you to be better? Well, the obvious answer would be my uncle, who has been my inspiration from the beginning, but I’m going to go with myself on this one. I’ve always been incredibly driven and I know the potential I have and I’m just itching to get there to show everyone what has been hiding inside of me this whole time. Pirates or Ninjas? Wow great question rubber duck! What should I call you anyways? Ducky is fine. Alright Ducky, I think I prefer pirates. Coming from the islands they just feel a little more real to me. Not in the scary way, obviously my island isn’t going to get raided by pirates, but I definitely wanted to join a band of pirates as a kid and cause mischief. There’s also a lot more roles and jobs as a pirate than I think there would be as a ninja. Like you’re either a ninja or the head ninja. And I don’t know there’s something about sneaking around and silently killing that would get boring to me. I’ve lived in obscurity my whole life already I want to go out there and charm everyone with my big guns and tantalizing smile. Charming. What are you a natural at? You’d think I’d say hockey but that is a lie I have worked so hard to get where I am, and it definitely didn’t come naturally. I am however a natural at pottery. As soon as my fingers touched that clay, I was truly a star. I made all of the plates and bowls in our house and a few flowerpots as well. I should definitely get back into it I haven’t done anything in a while. Pancakes or waffles? Waffles for sure. I don’t think this is even a debate anymore we all know that waffles hold the syrup better. Let me put it this way though. A bad waffle is just as bad as a bad pancake. A good waffle though is so much better than a good pancake. What would you do on a free afternoon in the middle of the week? I can’t remember the last time I had a free afternoon in the middle of the week actually. Wow I really need to find some more free time huh. Do you want the real answer or the ideal answer? I’m a rubber duck that you’re pretending is interviewing you, I couldn’t care less. Perfect, you’ll get both then. The real answer is I would spend the entire time scrolling through Tiktok in a semi-conscious state of bliss. The ideal answer is I would take my cat on a walk to the beach, get a hot dog and enjoy some rays with my cat. And then maybe go home, take a bath and watch some Gilmore Girls with a glass (or bottle) of wine. That’s what I would do. Okay. Thanks for doing this on such short notice. Well, what else is there to do on a random free afternoon Ducky? You have to get drunk and interview with your rubber duck! 534 words, claiming week ending January 30th .

Hi everyone, Landon Wolanin here. I’m sure some of you may remember my uncle, Jacob Carson. Ever since I was a little boy, I’ve been watching the VHL and waiting for my turn. Well, here I am. Although I missed my first draft I hope to find a team willing to give me a chance to show the world what I can do. I have been playing hockey since I was a little boy and I’ve always squashed what little competition I’ve had in the United States Minor Outlying Islands. I hope to bring a fresh personality, dominant puck possession and impressive offensive vision to any locker room willing to take a bet on me. I have my uncle’s years of experience to guide my path and I’ve been hearing the stories of the VHLM and he told me that there wasn’t even a VHLE when he was playing, that’s crazy! I may not have a lot of experience but I have so much potential and I truly think I could take the league by storm. I have been playing against adults since I was 8 years old. The beer league in town is quite competitive and I scored a goal by the time I was 12. I put up a 20 goal season by the time I was 14. When I was 16 I even got 3 MVP votes! I started off as a goalie when I was 4, to be like my uncle. But quite frankly, I was bad at it. I ended my 10 game house-league season with a .656 SV% and a 9.43 GAA. But I did get a shutout! I then moved to Defence when I was 6. But, I was also bad at that. My team let in a record 132 GA in 10 games. We did make the playoffs and even won the first round! On my 8th birthday, I decided I wanted to play Left Wing. Many people get confused why I didn’t want to play Center or Right Wing, but I had a very good reason. My name of course! Not only does it rhyme like any good name does, but it also forms the initials LW! My parents MUST have planned it out like this. They just wanted to let me fail at a few positions before I assumed my destined position. Once I took up the mantle of the Left Wing, I immediately felt more powerful. My house league team won the league, completely undefeated of course. I scored 100 points in 10 games against all of the kids who used to make fun of how bad I was. They even tried to make me the Captain, but I had to decline. It was my time to play against the adults of this town. Despite my slow start, the adults of the town have turned me into a hockey prodigy. I owe all of my future success to them, and I simply wait now for the opportunity to repay them. 501 words, claiming week ending January 23rd

A Quick Career Update: Jacob Carson

The Illustrious Career of a Journeyman Backup: Jacob Carson Hey everyone, hope you’re all doing well. It has been a LONG time since I’ve written one of these and a lot has happened in my career. As some of you may know this is my first player, and it has been an incredible experience to watch my career unfold. I wanted to take this opportunity to talk about my journey in the VHL and what the future may hold for me. First of all, I want to say thank you to Warsaw, Prague, Malmo and wow would you look at that, Warsaw again. These teams bet on me while my stock was low, as I have been on Welfare for months now. Although I wasn’t developing much, they gave me the opportunity to play games and show them what I could do. Obviously when you’re entering the VHL you hope to join a team and build a dynasty with them. Given my lack of earnings, I wasn’t exactly the cornerstone piece of any of the teams I have been on, but one could say I have been a part of a multi-team dynasty. I joined a powerhouse Warsaw team and went on some crazy playoff runs with them, and I always think fondly of those first couple of seasons and the team we assembled and the energy of that locker room. We dominated the regular season and we all sat waiting for the sims every day seeing if we could keep ourselves on the top of the league. Of course, with any powerhouse eventually the salary cap catches up with you, unfortunately I was one of the casualties, but I took it as an opportunity. Since this is my first time around the league, I’ve tried to relish the opportunity to meet new people and see what the league has to offer, and so the chance to join a new team is always exciting. When I joined up with Prague, my life got very busy and unfortunately, I wasn’t as active as I would’ve liked to have been. But once again we had a good long run in the playoffs, eventually losing out to Warsaw (of course). After that I was once again on the move, this time to another European Conference rival, Malmo. Again, life was rather busy for me, so I wasn’t around much, but once again I joined a powerhouse ready to win. What a magical run we had, and I was almost beaten out by Warsaw again. This time however the dream came true and I got to win the Continental Cup. There’s a few things I have learned from my time in the league so far that have stuck with me, both in the VHL and real life. The first one being that not everyone can be, or has to be a star. Obviously in the context of sports, it’s always nice to have a few superstars kicking around, but more often than not the thing that is missing is people who can fill a role, do their job and give the stars their chance to succeed. I had not, up until this season, had the chance to be a starting goaltender in the VHL. Obviously it hasn’t been easy to be active and participating when I wasn’t getting a lot of starts, but by gathering welfare, doing practice and some press conferences, I was ready to give my dynasty a chance to succeed. I’ve never been a star player, but I’ve done my job well enough to allow my teams to succeed. The next thing I’ve learned, through failing to do so for quite a while, is to take every opportunity you can to get to know new people, and see what sorts of positive relationships you can form. The structure of the league rewards those who are active contributors to the league, and I think it is a very important structure for forging these new relationships. We are all here bonding over our shared rather niche interest. This concept leads into my future in the league. Since I am reaching the end of my career, I have really been taking the time to think about when to call it a day. When I was asked to come start for Warsaw I obviously had to say yes for many reasons, and it has delayed my retirement by at least a season. It has certainly been interesting being a goaltender in a goalie heavy draft year with so few spots available to play. I think the VHLE is great, especially for graduating goaltenders, to get the chance to play games and keep activity and interest high. I think my career would have been much different with that option available and it almost makes me want to create another goaltender to see how that would go. To my actual point, as my career comes to an slow end, I have thought about my future and you should all keep an eye out for a new player in the coming seasons. My next section will be about the current season with Warsaw. For anyone who has stuck around through this word-dump, thank you and I appreciate your support. I was so excited when Warsaw had interest with me, and I accepted the offer immediately no questions asked. It also happens to be my first run as a starter in the VHL and as of the time of writing, I’d say it’s going rather well (a cool 5-1-1 .920 3.63, not to brag). Although the team may no longer be a lock in cup contender (although I think some of us might disagree), it is so exciting to see what the remnants of this core can do. It is sort of a victory lap for many of us and seeing the players I entered the league playing with and their glorious careers is something special. You might think at this point I’m just filling words to get to 1000, and you’re partially right but I want to reiterate how awesome this league has been and how much of a wild ride it’s been since reading that Reddit post back on July 15th, 2020. I’m not sure whether you’ll see any more of my writing before I retire, what with school ramping up, work on the side and the NHL season starting up, but if you don’t, thanks for a great first player experience and I hope to get to know you all better my next time around! 1079 words. 1. I don't think so but they should be able to abuse the flat cap and get teams to move some bad contracts for lucrative prices. Should be competitive quick and maybe more sustainably. 2. I assume the next team goes to Houston as a major metropolitan area and the southern states have done well in recent years so I assume if ever there was a time to enter that market it would be soon. Bring back the Aeros? Something space themed at least. 3. Canadian A&W or Subway. Both have a consistently good menu and decent prices. 4. Just finished New Girl and loved it also recently watched Deathnote and that was really good. Can't really nail down a favourite. 5. They're calling the games exactly as the NHL wants them to, they're managing the games instead of calling the penalties. It sucks to watch but I doubt it will change. 6. Poor timing on this answer but it has to be Mark Stone right? He's one of the best play drivers in the league and a menace in the neutral zone. A true 2-way player who is a star on both ends of the ice. -

1. Honestly this lsoing streak for Warsaw, they're a top team and a five game losing streak is strange for them, but I assume they'll turn it around soon. 2. I mean i'll watch hockey whenever! 3. I think it sent the right message, and it was a costly mistake for him and a good punishment for his team. 4. Hard one, maybe Revenge of the Dreamers 3? maybe not the best album overall but a lot of good memories with it 5. Cold, even in the winter. 6. Meat. But really anything except mushrooms and olives, i'm not too picky. -

1) I think we were as ready as we could've been, just some bad luck 2) definitely our dominant forward group, they scored up a storm 4) i still have all of the actually useless body parts, so probably my gallbladder 8 gotta be KaleebtheMighty, great work my man 9) i might be up there, i've put up some great numbers in limited play, but theres also some pretty big names in FA so it shard to say 10) JID, he never misses. -

1) I mean if we're starting with shots, we may as well make our way to goals in a game it only makes sense 3) Keep scoring, and keep making the most of our shots 4) triangles, but don't tell my trig professor 7) I'd love to head to New York for the summer, I've been a couple times but I definitely miss it 8. 6'2 for sure, you're solidly at least 6 foot, but also short enough that people don't think you're a freak of nature. 10) I was a part of my high school robotics team who came very close to being world champions which was crazy. -

1) Just keep winning baby, we've got a star powered offence and a solid back end so keep scoring more than our opponents 4) Yes. Nothing else needs to be said. 5) Well I must sat it is good for me haha, keeps the wins coming and takes the pressure off my back. 6) Prague, no real reason they just seem scary 7) Well, pretty much every playoff team I've been on has gone all the way to the finals, so I've been here a few times and I'm ready for more 8 Headphones, just feels like its in my ears more and more focused of a sound I don't know. -

1) high scoring from our top guys, and reliable consistent defence from the whole team 2) I think 3 could happen pretty easily unless we get some wacky sims, but 2 is my safe bet 3) I honestly have not been keeping up with trades much this season so I don't have many thoughts but there are certainly some interesting ones 4) Obviously when you know what your team looks like I think the earlier you make moves the better so you get the most value out of them, but there is always room for improvement so I'd hope the market is active until the last minute 5) I think there has to be some cap changes, we need more players in the VHL and less bot time I think that maximizes the amount of players in playing positions rather than pushing people out of the league 7) Literally any friend's house. -

1) After last season I have big expectations, but you never know what the sims look like. 2)I'm not sure, I had a strong season in limited games, so hopefully I can match those stats. 3) I think Riga, no real particular reason, just a gut feeling. 5) I think we had a great routine going, so I think we have a great chance to repeat the finals this season (and win this time). 6) Skegee by JID, in anticipation for his new album. 7) Frontside duh, I don't want to reach underneath to pull it out. -

1) I think it went great, we played great against the top teams and had a few unlucky sims at the end. The hype was real and I think we are more ready this season now for a deeper run 3) I haven't been on a whole lot this week if I'm being honest but excited to add some new faces to an already stacked squad 4) Still in lockdown babyyyyy. As much as I wish I could I doubt I would've been going regularly anyways 5) Superbad is an easy pick for me, super light, a classic and still pretty funny to this day. 6) Definitely one of those big layer dips with like beans and cheese and guac. Might be some drinks too for the legal folk 7) I played piano for a year back in like the 6th grade does that count? I'm counting it. -

1) Man it was a blast to watch. I think we knew going into that last game that the series was ours so it felt good to cash in on that. 2) Knowing we made it to the finals haha I think our strategy is to trust the team that's been assembled here and stay vigilant. 5) I love myself a good croissant, i'm also a big tortilla guy. Not sure whether they count but that's my answer so 6) A good goalie wins you games, a great goalie wins you series, a star goalie wins you championships. We've got a star. 8) No doubt in my mind that it would be Q. what an absolute unit of a letter, and it's god a lil knife, making it better than O. 10) I like alternative and rap mostly, but I do have a soft spot for shitty pop. -

1) I'm actually really happy with my performance in limited minutes this season! I was really dialed in and I'm super proud. 2) All I'm saying is I was on a team who ended second in the regular season and won the cup 3) Luckily I am mostly here to learn. I will certainly be ready if given the opportunity but man do I have faith in the team in front of us 4) We did a great job outshooting our opponents and the more you shoot the more you score easy. 5) Oh you know it. Last cup I won I got plastered in my basement and played some Jackbox. I'm ready for another one of those. 7) Yeah I love amusement parks, I used to go to Canada's Wonderland all the time so that has some nostalgia for me. -

2. absolutely, we are on a tear and I can't see that slowing down for anyone 3. Not as much as I'd like but yeah every now and then you can find me on twitter and instagram posting 4. Always, no better way to get a young player dedicated to the sport than a personal connection 5. Uhhhhhh no. Not this year at least. 6. I love Rolos, mostly for the caramel to be honest but I think it's a decent answer 7. Man this year has been nothing but success for my player so it would be nice to keep that going. -

1. Honestly given how well we are doing, it would be cool to see some adds that bring us over the edge 3. Honestly I'm doing a lot better than I would've expected, which has been a great experience 4. Hell yeah seems like a lot of people like similar games so that sounds like a blast. 5. I love rain to be honest, love the smell, love going out and getting soaked. 6. Cake has a higher potential for being good, but the average pie is better, so I'd probably bet on the pie, maybe like a peach or apple pie. 7. Hats give me headaches, never figured out why but it makes the experience a lot worse. -

1) We need to get our scoring touch back, we've run into a few hot goalies but we are getting shots and eventually they will go in 2) It's been fun to see some of my old teammates Isau DaMoose and Tom Eagles fight for the top rookie point lead. 3) As much as I hate to see it, I think Chicago and Helsinki are going to crush this season once they get going. Hopefully we can beat out Helsinki though 5) Luckily now I get a little more time between games so i can enjoy myself a little more haha. I've been crushing a lot of Mexican food recently, love it. 6) I watch a lot of hockey games, but I'm also a little bit of a fantasy nerd so I'm trying to always read or write something. 7) Tea, coffee makes my intestines do backflips for some reason. I rarely need the extra kick anyways so tea helps me chill out.
