Man, I wish Sunday and Thursday night football would get better, we've had some real stinkers. Anyway, today was good for the Cowboys. Got the win and Romo looked excellent. Bye couldn't have come at a better time though. Go Panthers tomorrow. I hope Sanchez throws 3 picks.

Joseph Roy III A Life of Work and Hockey Thompson, Manitoba, where Joseph went to high school Work is a word synonymous with hockey. Every great VHL player has put in a significant amount of work to get to where they are now. For some, even with tremendous amounts of time and persistence, never got to the ultimate goal, the Continental Cup. This is why it is extremely important for young Joseph Roy III to keep working and get better. He knows there will be pain, however he learned a long time ago pain is just another emotion that can be controlled by will. Early Life Joseph Roy III was born to Jennifer Roy and her husband, Joseph Roy Jr. on June 21st 1991 about 10 miles north of Thompson, Manitoba. Joseph Jr. worked three jobs, a miner, cutting firewood, and as a hunter to keep the family afloat, but they struggled to make ends meet. Jennifer was a stay at home mom who did her best to raise Joseph but had a problem with alcohol. This lead to her death at the age of 26 when Joseph was just 8 years old. It was at this time Joseph started to work for his father cutting wood and learning how to hunt. Joseph recalls this as the biggest reason for his unbelievable toughness. After being home schooled until the age of 16, Joseph finally went to a public school in 11th grade. When he got there he was already standing at 6’1” and weighed 170 pounds of muscle from working outside. Some of the counselors at the school noticed how big and strong he was, and suggested he try to play a sport. He thought about Football, but decided against it when he realized he wasn't a fast enough runner to make a tremendous impact. Eventually he decided to play ice hockey because he liked how physical the game was, and it allowed him to make many friends. Wheat Kings Days Joseph, Playing for the Wheat Kings Playing on the high school team was going swimmingly for Joseph, he was making tons of friends and he seemed to have a knack for the game. He had already learned how to Ice skate quite well as a boy and now was impressing coaches for his ability to score and take hits. After only 2 years of playing his high school coaches encouraged him to travel to Brandon and try out for the Wheat Kings. With his fathers permission he started training right after graduation and tried out for the Wheat Kings at age 19. Although the coaches thought he was not polished enough to be a contributing member of the team right away, they saw the raw potential and added Joseph to the team as their 4th line centre. Joseph played sparingly his first season and was used almost exclusively as a goon to come in and hit opposing players, but learned a lot about the game. His teammates most of whom had been playing most their life were impressed and surprised that someone who had only played for 2 years was already this good. Towards the end of the season, the 3rd line centre went down and Joseph got more action, ending with a 7 game point streak. For the season he had played 64 games scoring 10 goals and 5 assist for 15 points. During the offseason he worked harder than possibly anyone on the team, he knew that this was the last year he would be eligible and he wanted to make an impact to bolster his consideration for the upcoming NHL draft. He would go in to the practice facility at 4 am and wouldn't leave until 6 pm just so he could improve. The hard work payed off as he was named to the 1st line to start the season. He didn’t disappoint, getting off to a blazing start of 26 goals in the teams first 25 goals. Unfortunately he injured his wrist on a hit in game 26 and would miss 2 months. After he came back he took a little while to get back to his dominate self but would end the season wracking up 20 goals in the final 15 games. He would end the season with dissapointment, losing in the Memorial Cup finals, but had posted numbers of 51 goals and 41 assist in 50 games and had himself in the discussion of going in the top 2 rounds of the NHL draft. NHL Disappointment On June 23, 2012, Joseph Roy III was drafted by the Pittsburg Penguins with the 52nd overall pick in the draft. All seemed to be going well for Joseph who looked good in Training camp until the fateful day. On September 4th, Joseph received a call from a family friend to tell him that his father had passed away from cardiac arrest earlier that night. Joseph was devastated and never looked the same on the ice. In the 4th game of the season Joseph tore a muscle in his knee and was officially ruled out for the season. The team cut Joseph during the next Training camp citing that Roy III was out of shape and hadn’t improved. The VHL Calls After being cut Joseph had moved back to Thompson and met a woman and got married. He had started a business designing and making hockey sticks when one day former VHL player agent Austin Hickey stopped by the shop on his way to find talented players. Austin had heard of Joseph’s exploits and sought to sign him on and enter him into the Season 42 VHL player pool. After Hickey convinced him that it could be a way back into the NHL, Joseph agreed and started training for the upcoming Season 41 VHLM season. Pros Scoring - Joseph has a knack for finding the net. Some NHL scouts thought that he could one day rival Alexander Ovechkin as a goal scorer. His wrist shot is extremely explosive and is deceptive in speed. His slap shot is not quite accurate enough to be considered a threat, however it is overpowering and will go in 9/10 if on target. Toughness - Calling Joseph tough is an understatement, he will keep playing no matter what aliments he has. He has playing with broken bones on 20+ occasions and even played the 3rd period of the game in which he tore his ACL and MCL. Sometimes he can be overly tough and take/create unnecessary hits. Hitting Ability - Roy III can definitely lay a hurting on you. Numerous times a game he can be seen throwing around his body to know the puck loose, or just to punish opposing players. If he can develop more awareness and become more knowledgeable about the game he will be a top flight defensive forward. Cons Defense - He takes way to many chances and is sometimes downright unnecessary with his out of control play. He also has awareness problems simply because he has only played for 6 years. Someone needs to sit down and teach him the game, thoroughly. Leadership - He’s shy and unassuming. This is obvious if you watch some of the games in which he doesn't not score a goal or make a big hit. I counted about 5 games from his final season with the Wheat Kings in which I thought he was injured because I didn’t see anything out of him, no emotion. It will be interesting to see if he ever develops this. If not, he better make his money as a scorer. Puck Handling - Not as much a weakness, but something he could get better at. He is extremely conservative right now, almost like he still listens to his pee wee coach. If he could improve here and start wowing some people it could go along way to having a successful VHL career. I would give this area a C.

Yesterday was a big day for player agent Austin Hickey, he is back in the VHL after missing the last 5+ seasons. Last we saw Austin he was hyping up his new signee Rhys Heyward Jones. RHJ was never anything special in the league and because of legal issues and general disinterest in the league at the time, he didn't even last one season. That was it for Austin Hickey as a players agent. He had never fulfilled his dream of having a HOF player and it looked like he never would, until now. On November 7th Hickey announced on 105.3 The Fan in his hometown of Dallas, TX that he would be giving it another go. "I've been really humbled the past few years, I got a job and had a family, and I've got to experience real life for the first time. I think that will help me." he said. "I have high hopes for my next player, Joseph Roy III, however that's just what they are, hopes. I'm not going to give guarantees, I'm beyond childish play like that now. Also I realize I haven't really accomplished anything in this league, boosting would be foolish."
