Vice reacted to NickSunderbruch in Nicks Picks VHLM Draft Special Season 94
Welcome back to another Nicks Picks this time instead of covering the playoffs, we're gonna go over the VHLMs top draft picks this year and predict the top five.
    So my main criteria on who I believe gets drafted where will be based on the following but not in any particular order;
TPE totals, player history, update schedule, and community activity.
I feel as though a strong mix of these things will determine who a GM might value, a player with a higher TPE total might be valuable, but someone who has a little less TPE but is also outearning that other player might be considered more valuable by a GM.
So without further ado let us get into this weed fueled research session out of the way.

NUMBER ONE OVERALL:  Johnny Tsunami C 200 TPA 36 banked, @Vice
Probably the consensus number one overall pick, the best center in this draft class, and probably already VHL ready if you ask me.
As a rookie free agent Johnny put up 14 goals and 22 assists for 36 points aand a +14 in 54 games. Not bad at all in my humble opinion.
This is his 2nd player if I'm correct, which makes this a potential BOOM of a first overall pick, I really look forward to seeing him this upcoming season, where I'll cover him with fervor.
I think Johnny is a LOCK for the first pick and I can't see anyone really competing for this spot besides maybe the next two players on this list.

NUMBER TWO OVERALL: THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD G 191 TPA, @Royski
This is a first generation player, who probably gets selected number two overall in the M. I absolutely love to see that.
A 4-5-1 overall record in 10 starts isn't pretty, however we all know how the STHS likes to rail backup goalies stats, so I can't hold that against him.
His regular season stats weren't very good, HOWEVER his post season stats were absolutely stellar when he had a chance to play and show what he has.
A 0.94 SV%, a 1.68 GAA, 1 shutout, and only 5 goals on 84 shots. This is a goalie to keep an eye on, and a user who I'm excited to see becoming one of the pillars of this community as time goes on. I've been very lucky to interact with him in the Aces discord server, and I look forward to either playing with him or trying to score on him in the future.

NUMBER THREE OVERALL: Roger Eagles G 174 TPA, @Greg_Di
A second generational goalie in this top half of the list, which is just stellar to see. Playing a goalie can sometimes feel a little unrewarding.
So it's really nice to see two top goalies here in this draft, and should be a good solid pick and will make the team who picks him an instant contender.
He went 5-11-1 with some less than stellar but understandable rookie backup numbers this year with a 0.891 SV% and a 3.21 GAA.
This next season really should be his breakout season, I see no reason why Roger won't just bounce back.

NUMBER FOUR OVERALL: Konstyantyn Shevchenko RW 153 TPA, @der meister
A well known member of the community on a recreate who's earning like crazy and looking like he could make any team an instant success.
With the experience this user has in the league, he'll surely have a nearly perfect build once he's capped at 200 for the year, and then all that'll be left is to bank for the E or the VHL.
in 17 games he put up 3 goals and 3 assists for 6 points and a +10 during the regular season for Houston, which is really good considering how stacked Houston was this year.
I expect him to be both a solid early pick in the M and a solid late first rounder in the VHL draft as well. It's hard to imagine a player like this getting taken any lower than four.

NUMBER FIVE OVERALL: Nicholas Sunderbruch Jr C 143 TPA, @NickSunderbruch(me teehee)
Sunderbruch is an interesting pick at this spot and definitely not me being biased to my own player (it is)
But Sunderbruch is a returning player, and a very defensive minded center, who should be capped at 200 within a few weeks.
in 25 games he put up 2 goals and 5 assists for 7 points and a +3. Certainly not the most amazing stats, but something to work with considering it was his rookier season.
I see no reason why Sunderbruch would fall any further than 7-8 but I have him at number 5 just so I have a chance to talk about myself.

Well boys that's going to be it for my top 5 mock draft, if you have any problems with the list then please use the comments to debate.
Though a fair warning is that I'm better than you and am always right about everything all the time, and I am physically incapable of saying even a single wrong word.
I hope you all enjoyed this art piece disguised as a mock draft, and I hope y'all enjoy this league as much as I do.
Anyways I hear my dad coming home from the bar, so I gotta go grab my helmet and my jockstrap, smell ya later. Stay warm and stay icey, Seacrest out.

    1. That's a wrap! The S93 playoffs end with the Saskatoon Wild winning this season's Founder's Cup. What are your thoughts on Saskatoon's 4-0 series win against Ottawa? How would Houston have done if we had advanced?
    IT. SHOULD. HAVE. BEEN. US.
    2. How did your player do these playoffs? Did they come out of their shell from the regular season? Was it a quiet playoffs for your player?
I like how I finally got to go beast mode there at the end. It was a good effort all around though.
    3. Speaking of playoffs still, the NHL playoffs just finished their first round. Out of the remaining teams (New York R, Carolina, Colorado, Dallas, Boston, Florida, Edmonton, and Vancouver), which do you think has the best chance of winning the Stanley Cup?
Florida Panthers, all the way. I have been a follower of theirs for a long time now and I think they're one of the few 'overdue' teams left to win the cup.
    4. The VHL off-season is just around the corner which gives not only your player, but everyone else a nice break of pace. What does your player do in their off-season? My player loves to start boozing around then.
Go home and go surfing most likely! Family is everything so just getting to spend some time with my family will be appreciated.
    5. I have been golfing so much lately that I decided to host a Houston Bulls Golf Tournament! All friends and family are invited, although I'm stuck on what the trophy will be... What should the winners of our golf tournament get? A trophy? $10 gazillion dollars?
The good parking spot. You know the one.
    6. I have also been using my bike a lot more lately (mainly because I bring my car to the shop tomorrow). Cardio sucks but I have always enjoyed bike riding. What is your favourite form of cardio if you had to choose one?
Gotta go with swimming. It's a good way to get the heart going and it's always fun to be in the water!

What a season! We started off being predicted 7th out of 8th in North America, largely missing the playoffs. We made huge signings and numerous massive trades that pushed us into 2nd in the entire VHL and 3 points away from the Victory Cup, awarded to the team finishing with the most points in the regular season. We entered playoffs and did not have an easy ride. New York. DC. London. 3 amazing teams this season and 3 very intense, fun and anxiety packed series. At the end of the day, we got the job done in so many ways. Eagles hit 100 points (which was one of their goals), @Ricer13, @ROOKIE745 won their first ever continental cups with players and we all got to celebrate a win together. Super special! About the Award:

Giorgiy Costanzov, aka @Mongoose87, is a huge reason why we won the Continental Cup this season and if you took a look at the portal and the index, you'd kind of being scratching your head as to why? During the season, he held his own as a developing goalie for the Seattle Bears who has a lot of promise if the development continues. They could be a Bears legend.. and they started off their own personal story here with quite a bang. Good regular season record, but it wasn't so much their playing that got them the award and more so what they did for the team and locker room. As a GM, I'm always moving. I know some people think it's an easy job and very chill, but I don't know. Maybe for some. I'm always doing something, most days - if not every day. I made a lot of moves to help some cores pieces have as much success as possible. I knew if we were going to REALLY try and win, a 1,000 TPA goalie will get the job done better than a 500 TPA one.

I approached Mongoose and we had a chat. They were very opened to the idea, despite knowing that it likely will be challenging and quite boring to open up sims and once again not see yourself on them. They sacrificed a good chunk of playing time in the regular season, something they didn't have to do. They gave up all playing time in the playoffs. Something they didn't have to do. He's been awesome this entire time - having fun in the locker room, being active as all hell, supporting the team and sacrificing like so many on this team do for everyone else. It's a really cool team and culture we have in Seattle and Mongoose is an INCREDIBLE leader of it all. Thank you for all your efforts and time you put into the VHL and the Seattle Bears. I know it was boring sitting on the sidelines mostly but know that you're just as big of part of this win as everyone else, CHAMP!

With that being said, I asked @Mongoose87 the same question I've asked the other 4 Spirit Bear Award winners..

At this point feels like we have to do this every single season....

With that said, we do expect our GM's to do their jobs and follow the rules. There is a big difference between leaving your bot goalie in for 1 or 2 extra games. This punishment comes from way more. For that reason, the draft lottery odds are being adjusted as a form of punishment for LA @InstantRockstar who started their goalie 19 times an extra 11.

In order to keep things fair to the other teams in the lottery. We as the commissioner team have decided that LA will lose 15% odds of first overall (they will keep the position just not the odds). This 15% will then be re-distributed.

The lottery odds this season are:

    1. LA - 10.0%
    2. Davos - 23.0%
    3. Riga - 20.5%
    4. Vancouver - 18.0%
    5. Calgary - 15.5%
    6. Helsinki - 13%

In addition LA will lose their 2nd round pick.

It is the hope of the league that this will not be an every season occurrence and that it was simply a mistake on the part of the GM's rather than malicious tanking and no further adjustments to the rules will be made at this time so please don't prove us wrong and have to make this a seasonal thing that we punish more harshly. I feel like I say that every season, we expect the GMs to follow the rules. As this punishment continues every season don't be surprised if the punishment continues to be more severe on each occurrence.

Vice got a reaction from AJW in Johnny Tsunami - VHL/E Scouting Report
Note: This graphic was made for the end of the season, using regular season results. Does not include playoff data.

Strengths: Tsunami shows a high degree of offensive vision, and with the right coaching program and regimen, could become a lethal goal-scorer or assist machine. Which is also what adds to his strengths, Johnny is currently in a position to pivot into whatever role is needed for his incoming team. During the VHLM playoffs, Johnny took on the role of an offensive center and despite not hoisting the cup - ended the post-season as it's top goal scorer. There's clearly a lot more in the gas tank to go.

Weaknesses: Johnny is also prone to taking on quite a lot of penalties as he finds himself in engagements often. Taking these penalties at inopportune times can cause games to shift momentum, however, with some more focus on discipline and control, Johnny should be able to overcome these. Tends to talk a lot in the locker room, too. Like a little too much.

Post-Season GP G A P +/- 93 (HOU) 12 9 7 16 8 Despite their stellar performance in the S93 playoffs, we still predict Tsunami to be drafted either late in the 1st Round, or early in the 2nd Round. For teams that have needs at center or forward, there are a few options that stand out above Tsunami. Beyond that, the top echelon of the draft is laden with defense so it would be curious to see if any teams take that into consideration when making their picks - you know we'll be running the mocks once the lottery is complete!

Vice reacted to AJW in A S93 Houston Bulls Review
Another season in the VHLM comes and then goes, and here we are ready for the off-season with so much to look back on. The Houston Bulls recently finished their S93 run after experiencing disappointing back to back second round exits in S91 and S92. After a crazy season in S92, it was foot back on the pedal in S93 for the Bulls to find the playoffs and seek redemption of a finals appearance. With only one player returning on the roster, it was now right to the draft board to scheme up a plan of a "core" to our blank roster.

Goaltender Herald Benson @Benson made his return this season in hopes of leading this franchise to another deep playoff run. Benson played the backup role through the S92 playoffs and was ready for his shot at glory this time around. I made it very clear to Benson that Houston management wanted him in our crease and that we would not be drafting another goaltender. Instead, I decided to make a trade for some skaters. Elf Shoes @ELF_SH0ES and Charlie Klepacki @chuck.hockey7 flew west from Miami after being traded for a future 1st round pick. I figured the addition of these two developed forwards could make my draft decisions much easier. Fast forward and the first round of the S93 VHLM Dispersal Draft ends with the Houston crickets chirping. It was not until the 16th pick in the second round when Houston stepped onto the floor, taking Houston's AGM and assistant captain, Billy Joel @The goat of hockey. Later followed captain Filip Zinek @FiZi, and assistant captain Wladyslaw Mintus @mintusaurus followed shortly after. Last but not least, Cole Stermer @Bazeus finished the Bulls' draft and our "core" was starting to become of shape. Once the draft completed and some time rolled on before the regular season started, two waiver players put the pen to paper. S94 players  Hulk Smash @Cuffy and Tommy James Longpre @TJ Longpre finalized the Houston Bulls S93 starting roster:

    G - (S93) Herald Benson
    LW - (S93) Elf Shoes
    C - (S93) Charlie Klepacki
    D - (S93) Billy Joel
    LW - (S93) Filip Zinek
    D - (S93) Wladyslaw Mintus
    RW - (S93) Cole Stermer
    LW - (S94) Hulk Smash
LW - (S94) Tommy James Longpre

The regular season was ready to commence and Houston's 6-2-1 roster looked to be one of the most competitive when compared with the rest of the VHLM teams. The Bulls came out seeing red! Winning 13 of the first 20 games played, Houston was a competitor in the competitive Western Conference featuring Las Vegas and Saskatoon. Not to mention, sitting above all to start the season was two hot Eastern conference teams. Halifax and Ottawa had an allergy for losing, making this race for the VHLM title a tough one. Houston fell a bit in stride after this 20 game milestone and a small gap was occurring. Luckily a young talented center decided on Houston! A Tsunami rolls into town as Johnny Tsunami @Vice joins the Bulls on his search for hardware and the S94 VHL draft. The entrance of Tsunami really brought me hope in our offence. I felt I had left our all-star goaltender out to dry with the short bench I created. The trade deadline was approaching and another trade was needed to be done if Houston wanted any chance at a finals appearance. San Diego was looking for a rebuild and two defenders is deeply what Houston needed. Ray Stanton @horoscope was leading the Marlins charge and was now relied on to play a big part in Houston's charge. LaClapbomb Hitstick IV @Greasy Gary would also come east with Stanton to fill Houston's defensive depth in his rookie campaign. The two ex-Marlins were excited to be part of a potentially deep playoff run and so was I.

Trade deadline came and so did the date for players to recreate for the S95 draft. A pleasant surprise came to my DMs when Ukrainian winger Konstyantyn Shevchenko @der meister of the Austrian ICE hockey league wanted to become a Houston Bull. The depth winger has a lot of potential and was placed on the first line to bond with Czechian captain Filip Zinek. As well as Shevchenko, another global hockey player made their way to the Houston Bulls locker room this season. Samsayz I-Smell @CaptainSB made the long trek from Antarctica and brought a funny stench as well. With that the roster was complete and the Bulls had a first round playoff series to get ready for. After clinching a spot in the S93 playoffs so early on in the season, the race for position of seeding was on! Houston went on a 13 game winning streak to finish our S93 regular season, outscoring teams 46-15. This boosted the team's morale and to put it into short terms, we were buzzin'. After tying Saskatoon for 1st place in the Western Conference with 98 points, only to lose by ROW, Houston would finish S93 in the 4th seed.

Playoffs quickly came and the stinkin' Las Vegas Aces were on the menu. All season long Las Vegas and Houston traded games with Las Vegas having a 7-3 regular season record. The Bulls seemed to be unstoppable as of late and that is exactly what happened after five games. Houston would move on to the second round for the third season in a row, this time to see the 1st seed Ottawa Lynx. Quick history lesson:

S91: Houston loses 2nd round 4-3 to 1st seed Saskatoon; Saskatoon wins Cup S92: Houston loses 2nd round 4-2 to 1st seed Philadelphia; Philadelphia wins Cup
If history was to repeat itself, we were screwed. I had a lot of confidence in this series since of the 13 game win streak to end the season, Ottawa was 2 of those games. The series started off like a ping pong match, Games 1 and 2 with the series tied at 1-1... Games 3 and 4 with the series tied at 2-2. Then we headed to single day sims, Games 5 and 6... series tied at 3-3. Game 7 was needed to decide if Houston could break this 10 season Finals Appearance, "second round curse" that the Bulls have built to our franchise's name. Game 7 came and so did a lot of penalties before an Ottawa Lynx win. What a series, what a season, what a team. It was devastating to see that loss after such a good season. Starting off with only a franchise goalie in the crease, to filling out a roster, to a second round exit, I can not complain. Houston gave it our all this season and I am very proud of the consistency and effort this team showed me. The cherry on top is that Houston did not have to release anyone to inactivity!!! 🎉 It makes me so happy to see everyone stick around for the run, even with someone getting engaged, someone broke an elbow... a lot of life getting in the way which is so okay! Thank you Bulls for making it another fun season even though we couldn't get a chance at that trophy. It did feel good to watch the Wild sweep the finals though lol.

What are Management plans? We secured the right amount of picks to be pick compliant again this season and look to use those picks to draft some more studs. Houston is always looking to be competitive and future draft eligibility will have to be dealt with, but should be an easy fix. For myself, I'd like to make it publicly clear that I would like to apply for the position of Riga GM once that opens. I have completed 8 seasons as Houston GM and I am ready for more, but I feel like I am also ready for something bigger now. This will be my first time applying for a VHL GM role so I am very excited!

The point scoring lead on the team is held by the electric VHLE rookie Gianfranco Del Rocco @Victor who has 76 points in 68 games.  Second on the team in scoring is rookie defender, Lucy Leitner, with 56 points in 68 games.  With 11 goals and 45 assists, Leitner leads the team in the helpers category, and on paper, 11 goals seems like a respectable number, but a quick glance at Leitner's shooting percentage tells a different story.  Shooting at 3.86% on the season, Leitner's 285 shots on goal are the most by any defender in the VHLE.  When compared to the defender with the next highest shot total, the problem is strikingly clear.  Leitner's former Houston teammate, Benjamin Abenduct @Schnee, has 21 goals on 270 shots, shooting a modest 7.78%.  With 10 more goals than Leitner on fewer shots and a shooting percentage that is still below league average, it becomes obvious why Leitner was approached this week with a sponsorship deal from Little Bites-- you know, like the company that makes mini-muffins?

Last season, critics of Leitner referred to her then as a "muffin factory" owing to her apparent inability to convert shots into goals at a rate comparable to her peers.  Though her shooting percentage last season eventually rose to a respectable 8% by the end of the season, it did hover around the 3-4% mark for much of her VHLM rookie campaign.  This time around in the VHLE, there seems to be no such puck luck for Leitner who expressed her frustration with her futile shooting efforts.

"My main goal is to help the team win, but when you shoot 285 times and only score 11 goals-- something is wrong with that picture.  The silver lining, I guess, is it got me this sponsorship and the team is still doing fine overall".

The sponsorship deal, which is set to pay Leitner $100,000 and a lifetime's supply of Little Bites muffins, was signed on Monday evening before the Iron Eagles would take on the Rome Gladiators in a back-to-back.  Vasteras would eventually take the win in both of those games with Leitner recording the opening goal in the first game, only 5:38 into the 1st period of play.  There were reports of Little Bites' interest in Leitner as a brand ambassador last season until her shooting percentage spiked upward and the "muffin factory" moniker fell out of favor.  This season, however, the muffin factory is back up and running, churning out muffins for goalies to gobble up.  Ever the optimist, Leitner has remained upbeat about the less than flattering comparison and has continued to work on her shot in practice, hoping to shut down muffin production once and for all.  At this time, we don't know if the Little Bites sponsorship would be voided if her shooting percentage eclipsed a certain threshold, but for the time being, Lucy "Little Bites" Leitner is rolling in the dough.

Vice reacted to CaptainSB in The Case to be Drafted Last
    Hey Fellow VHL enthusiasts,

I've got a silly but true article for you today. Today I present with you a solid case in why the new S95 player Samsayz I-Smell should be drafted last in the upcoming VHLM draft. Yeah, you read it right, it should be drafted last! Please follow along with me as when you are provided with evidence, you can only agree to draft it last.

There are a total of 24 prospects in the S95 class. This means there are 23 other competitors to the last pick for I-Smell. Let's go!

Case 1: Not in the Top 7 TPE
Smart GMs should value TPE as it is the main source of improving your player. In this class there 7 amazing users ahead of I-Smell. And it is even an ice mix of positions - you get a goalie in Roger Eagles, 3 wings in Konstyantyn Shevchenko, Phil Sakic and Tim Robinson and 3 defenders in Ahsoka Tano, Alphonse Desjardins, and Boris Bone-Breaker. Who would be stupid to pass up on these 7 top players in the league? Be smart and follow what smart GMs would be and value the top TPE users.

Case 2: Junior Showcase Tourney GMs know something
Now on top of smart GMs, there are the junior showcase tourney GMs that spend their free time and energy to get to know the prospects more and coach them. If you look at this class you have 6 of the top 7 tpe players going ahead but you also have the hidden gem Ronan Amnon who was a fellow defender go ahead of I-Smell. The JST GMs must know something. Ronan is a dope name and also a very active user in Breeze who asks the smart questions and is very active on discord. A great locker room presence so a great pick up for sure.

Case 3: Lack Veteran Experience and Presence
One thing that Minors GMs understand is having a mature leader on the team. There are starters that shine and overachieve because of their leadership, veteran presence and experience. These are the type of players that started early in their youth and have blossomed. There are two types of veterans - one that are really active and have tons of posts. These are players like Meghan Dancalot, Justin Rike, An Actual Holy Cow, Miles Bryant, Einar Mathiesen, and Inker Belle. These are the sure things of the draft with strong activity and history, understanding of the league and the experience to get them quickly overachieving. And the next tier to this is the duo of Cody Cobberson and Harvey Khabibulin who are a tier below the 6 but have been in the league since 2020 and 2019 respectively and have both 28 posts. All 8 would make for a better and safer pick over I-Smell.

Case 4: Lack Playoff Excellence aka Flop
Of the 7 remaining, there is one player that joined a bit later than I-Smell but excelled in the playoffs. I-Smell had a solid regular season but really flopped in his two series at Houston costing them the playoff title run. Unlike the 17 games of +15 and 10 points for Houston, I-Smell went an embarrassing -1 over 12 games scoring only 2 points. There were rumors that global bookies were paying off I-Smell with offshore accounts and since I-Smell is from Antarctica his bank accounts can't be properly traced by the VHL authorities. On the flip side there is defensemen Carl Erhardt who only played 2 games in the regular season for Halifax but also had +3 over 11 games. He really was there for 21st as they lost out in the semi finals. If you are a smart minors GM, don't you want a more proven playoff performer who is clutch and does not choke when the lights are on the brightest and is not connected or even remotely rumored to be connected to shady offshore sportbooks and brokers? I would too!

Case 5: Why Draft Someone Used When You Can Draft a Shiny New Prospect
I-Smell has already played 17 games and as shown in the playoffs his game is starting to show and being dissected by the coaches. People now know who and what this player is and the strengths and limitations of the player,. On the flip side, there are brand new hot prospects that joined the league. Why not go for a brand new prospect that has a potential to be a superstar over a slightly used old rookie that flopped the prior season?
Rookies that are going up the draft boards are new prospects Damo Garland, Charles Derfler, Shawn Marijekese, Shooter McDangles, Connor McDavide and Sigma Ohio Rizzler. Drafting these 6 are like opening a brand new pack of player cards - you may get a rare gem! Who doesn't like opening player card packs and the lottery as it may change the future of the club for the next 1-2 seasons.

    Case 6: I Smell
As Samx can attest, I smell. Not just smell but I stink. Players I had managed in the ISFL and PBE all had stunk so there is higher probability with my sim luck you will be getting a stinky player. So why bother and take the risk when mentioned above there are so many better options? Also, I don't plan to answer anyone's discord messages and forum messages during the draft so all GMs will have to take a big gamble on whether Samsayz I-Smell is actually a legitimate prospect. He hails from mysterious Antarctica and no one really knows the guy. He may equally just vanish from the sport so he is a very high risk prospect.

    Conclusion
Not a top TPE user. Junior Showcase Tourney GMs knew to draft him late. Lack veteran presence and has flopped in the playoffs. Not the shiny new prospect that can be a huge lottery win. And the fact I smell evidenced by the league smelling professional Samx.

I-Smell thus makes a perfect case for the last pick of the draft. In American football, there is a name for the last pick - "Mr Irrelevant." Samsayz I-Smell wants to revolutionize the draft thinking and make going last a cool and rare feat. What better to have this player go last in the VHLM, VHLE, and VHL drafts and have the pick named after I-Smell? If you are a smart GM, a savvy GM and not a stupid GM, you will be able to both logically, emotionally and rationally make a decision that I-Smell deserves to be the last pick and not worth even a flyer earlier.
