    The captain sat alone.

Only hours before, he had played in his final VHL game. He scored his final point, an assist on the game’s first goal in a 3-1 loss to the Calgary Wranglers. At the game’s final buzzer, he was mobbed by his teammates but he quickly pushed through them toward the Calgary player leading a line of Wranglers to shake his hand. He and former Nighthawk teammate Brendan Telker embraced at center ice and then stood together to shake the hands of players from both teams. Drafted by Malmo only six spots apart in the acclaimed S77 Entry Draft, the two friends played in 432 regular season and 55 playoff games together, and helped Malmo win the Continental Cup in S79. As this was Deathwalker’s final game (Telker would continue to play in the playoffs with Calgary), everyone then vacated the middle of the ice and the Scottish giant then took a lap around the rink and waved to the standing and cheering crowd.

Now, the locker room was empty except for the hulking hunched figure sitting by his stall. The dim moonlight hazing through an above window faintly illuminated the green jersey that had been his life for the past eight seasons. The sweat on his face dripped to meet the tears from his eyes and continue down his beard to the large “C” over his heart. This was it. The end of the line. But he couldn’t bear to take off the Nighthawk crest and leave the locker room. Not after all the hard work, the time, the blood, sweat, and tears. All the tears of joy and celebration after winning the Cup, all the tears of realization and resignation that trickled down his face right now.

And so the captain continued to sit alone with his thoughts.

Even though he hadn’t been the most productive offensively as some in his draft class, that was never his role or his goal. He was a physical specimen and a warrior. Someone who led by example, with heart, determination and no fear. He paved the way on the ice for his teammates through physicality, grit, and intimidation. He wanted the rink to be a hostile environment for the opposition. And in the blink of an eye, his career was over, but his influence will be felt in Malmo and the VHL for generations to come. He truly is a Legend.

Still kinda new to using gimp, but I thought I would try to make an Alt Logo for the Nighthawks. I tried adding some green to the logo, but I couldn't make it look the way I wanted so I just did Blue and White. Kinda turned out looking like a practice jersey logo.

Everyone knows I love highlighting the tough guys and gals of the league.  Some player’s like to make their builds with a little more grit and a little less offensive vision.  I have written some articles emphasizing many of the VHL’s nastiest players but today I thought I’d cover the VHLE’ more prominent toughies.

While researching this I found that there were two nasties who were at the top of the list in both hits and PIMS.  Jared Carter the 2nd and Jeff Buffy.

Jeff Buffy (Geneva Rush)- @strider- the 43rd overall pick in the S82 draft, Buffy has been a solidly producing Dman.  At 605 235lbs the 37 year old still plays an old school game every night.  He leads the VHLE in PIMs with 233 in 70 games to go along with 317 hits. Last year for Geneva he had 238 PIMs and 303 hits. He will be in the VHL next year most likely and will be a handful for attacking forwards.

    Stats:
    84GEN-   15G 34A 49PTS. 233 PIM 317 Hits
    83GEN-   12G 37A 49PTS. 238 PIM 303 Hits

Jared Carter the 2st (Istanbul Red Wolves)- Carter is in his third year in the E, the massive 23-year-old defenseman was drafted #27 overall in the S82 draft.  In three years with the club he has amassed over 200 PIMs and 300 hits every season.  He is already over 1000 hits!   So far this year in 69 games he has 223 PIM and 362 hits.   I hope to see Carter in the VHL next season.

    Stats:
    84IST-    17G 28A 45 PTS. 223 PIM 362 Hits
    83IST-    11G 25A 36 PTS. 248 PIM 353 Hits
    82IST-    7 G. 19A 26 PTS. 284 PIM 305 Hits

Bobby Rockwell (GENEVA RUSH)- The next guy on the list went 35th overall in the S82 draft and has played two seasons with the Geneva Rush.  Another defenseman, he plays a stay at home style and delivers hits and pain to opposing forwards.  So far in 70 games this season he has amassed 201 PIM and 229 hits.  Not one to light the lamp often Rockwell focuses his play on Defense and stopping pucks from entering his net.  Standing at just 511 171lbs Rockwell doesn’t let his size stop him from being formidable.  Based on TPE and possibly IA he will probably remain in the E for another year.

    Stats:
    84GEN-    5G 6A 11PTS  201PIM 229 Hits
    83GEN-    5G 17A 22PTS.184PIM 305 Hits

Mo Probert (Bratislava Watchman)- No list would be complete without our next player.  He is in the top ten in PIMs and plays the type of game you would expect from his name.  Probie is in his second  year in the VHLE and along with his grit, he has a scoring touch and can punish other teams with his fists, body, or on the scoring sheet.  His team is currently in second place and should be scary come playoff time.  The best part is we get to potentially see Probert vs Jared Carter the 2st in a brutal playoff series.  Probert has 111 PIM and 173 hits to go with 53 points.  Probert spent 3 years in the VHLM where every year he had over 100 PIM and 200 Hits.  Can’t wait for to see him in the VHL.

    Stats:
    84BRA. 12G 41A 53PTS 111PIM 173 Hits

    VHLM:
    83HFX- 21G 41A 62PTS 119PIM 201 Hits
    82HFX- 2G  32A. 34PTS 174PIM 249 Hits
    81MIA- 4G 21A. 25PTS. 190PIM 271 Hits

There you have it.  A showcase of some up and coming tough guys tearing up the VHLE.  There are many others I could have covered In this article and by no way is this list set in stone.  Others like The Loch Ness Monster, creed, Faith Hope Love, Trevor Wallace, Nicholas Blue, and Cobalt Burns all deserve their place in here as well.

Best of luck y’all and hope to see you in banging heads in the VHL soon.

"Here we are, Season 83 Renaissance cup champions looking to repeat the beautiful run we had! Truthfully, I couldn't be more proud of our team, of everyone's hard work and energy that was given to our team in the playoffs. We were the better team and we proved it. Right now, we are as always looking forward to our next adventures on and off the ice and for that, well, you need someone to lead you, to show the best path, maybe not the easiest or the prettiest but a path that will lead our team to greatness. I am sure that the new Captaincy crew of Bratislava Watchmen will do exactly that! We are the Watchmen, we always find a way to succeed! Alright, let's get to the most important part here!"

And the Captaincy trio of Season 84 Bratislava Watchmen is going to be:

Firstly, the A will be worn by our own returning player, dominant and loved all across Slovakia and his home country of Sweden, the player without whom our championship run wouldn't have been possible -  Harry Hagel @jasplunds

Secondly, the A will be worn by another returning player, a Centre forward who was a vital part of our team last season, a player who defines hard work and excellence, future VHL superstar from Canada - Jack Hextall @Jack Feriancek

And finally, the captain of S84 Bratislava Watchmen is a player who joined our team not long ago, was our 1st round Draft pick in this season's draft, a player who has managed to put everyone on this team in awe due to the impeccable skills and attitude on ice - soon to be knighted by the Queen Elizabeth II - Fraser Wallace @Hoopydog

Congratulations and we will see you all on the ice!

Tim Robinson reacted to Scurvy in Creative Names in VHL
As I eagerly await the start of this season, I find it somewhat difficult to find topics of interest to keep earning my much-needed attribute points.  For this article I would like to talk about some of the best names in the VHL.  There are many creative, interesting, and even annoying people here in the VHL and with that comes some amazingly funny and inspiring player names.  So today, were going to chat about some of these beauties.

The Board Game Clue on Skates (BGCOS) @MubbleFubbles- Well having been a teammate of this dynamo I know what a good dude he is for sure. On top of that he created a difficult to type and interesting name that is seen often because of how much he scores.  There has been rumors that him and teammate Bo Johansson are taking some exotic performance enhancing substance of some type but I am withholding judgment now and will only tell league officials if they beat Warsaw.

Seymour Butts- @fonziGGOk having a dry and old school sense of humor I believe this to be a classic.  Simple, funny, and to the point. Enough said

AK92 Wit da Hoodie @hedgehog337 Ok AK is not in the VHL yet and I almost fly into a rage trying to type such a ridiculously long name.  But hey, to each is own.  Pretty high draft pick and had a good season with San Diego and Mexico City putting up solid numbers for a Dman.   Looks like we will be seeing his name often in the near future.

That Dude @Cornholio- easy, simple, and to the point. When the question is asked, “Who scored the game winner tonight?”    The answer, “That Dude.”  Crafty veteran who’s scored 200 goals in VHL so he can play and think up awesome names.

Druss Deathwalker-  @animal74This name has to my personal favorite.  No other name can instill some fear into opposing players like the protagonist from the fantasy series by David Gemmell.  And just like the character in the novels, VHL Druss dishes out some massive punishment and puts up points.  DON’T give this dude a battle axe until after he retires, please.

Mo Probert @Yahtzee-  Ok nothing super creative about this name but since it has the last name of the greatest NHL fighter of all time (my opinion) I had to include him.  He is currently playing for VHLE champs, Bratislava.  I look forward to him making the VHL so maybe I can see that great box score fight with Probert vs Payne.

Huge G Johnson-  @EMoney002A VHLM lifer and huge disappointment to me since I recruited him.  Stuck at 199 TPE he did win a championship with Las Vegas last year.  Either way knowing Johnson’s personality he is a funny dude and I hope he catches the VHL addiction like I have, and his next player makes it to the VHL so I can beat him senseless for costing me recruitment TPE.

    3. I think they did a good job seeing as I was signed as a free agent haha.
    4. Nope, gotta build chemistry with players and even the front office.
    5. Always pressure for the team that won the cup the previous year. I think that pressure will motivate some of our players even more.
    6. I spent the off season trying to change my style of play a little bit. I haven't heard of the coupon codes.

Two reasons really. 1. I had never created an active defenceman before and that was well past due. 2. Before the Hybrid attributes, there was an issue where many people were building their players the exact same way, so I wanted to do something a bit different.

Poopy had no actual hockey experience before the VHLM, so he still puts his skates on first. No one says anything though. He puts his jock on last because he doesn’t like how it wedges.

Baseball would be simple enough for him, and he’d utilize his defensive awareness at shortstop I think. He’s terrible at batting though.

So for theme week, I decided to do a signature and shoutout for @NSG and his newly created goalie. NSG has always made me feel welcome and has always been free to offer help when needed. He's been one of the people who has honestly been one of the nicest people I've got to meet in his site/forum, and its probably lame but I've always felt connected to him. The original Henry Tucker and Tater Tot were both drafted by the same VHLM and VHL team, and even came up to the VHL at the same time. It got to the point that I chose to sign with Halifax because I saw Tucker Jr sign with them a day or so before. Except now things are swapped, and now he's the Goalie and I'm the player lol. So anyways, here you go! Thanks for all your help with the VHL and my brief stint with the SBA!

    5. I'm a Sterile Processing Tech. I work in a hospital cleaning, assembling, and sterilizing surgical trays. It's a pretty good job and you can do travel jobs with it and make some pretty good money that way. I'm thinking about traveling within the next year.
    6. I like most of the seasons. I'd say spring is probably my least favorite one because it's usually all muddy and it rains more. I like summer and fall a lot so I can skateboard and I like winter a lot so I can snowboard.
