  3. Hello Europe – Felicia Hardy has arrived When asked Felicia Hardy had the following to say about heading to Europe for season 94: “The last couple of weeks have been a whirlwind of excitement starting with a VHLM Founder’s Cup Championship with Saskatoon and then entering the drafts to be chosen in the first round by both Davos and Stockholm. And now I am on my way to Europe not only for the VHLE but also for the VHL. Last season was an exceptional experience, competing in one of the top leagues in the world, learning from some of the best trainers, coaches and GM’s, a player could not ask for anything more. Yet now I am in a situation where I have been selected to join the VHLE, specifically the Stockholm Vikings. I am grateful for my time in the VHLM as I learned so much that I expect to be able to use in the upcoming season but the ability to take my skills and talents to this new opportunity is something I cannot pass up. So, what are my goals and expectations for Season 94? First off, I want to admit that I know the competition is going to be tougher, but I also know that I put in a lot of effort to build my skills in preparation. I have been working specifically on my stick work, my skating and using my body to separate players from the puck. I plan to enter the VHLE at full speed, to make my presence known and felt. I will not apologize to my opponents; this Viking comes to Battle, game in and game out. The battle lines have been drawn, and my goal is to do everything I can to ensure that when the dust settles that Stockholm will be represented in the VHLE Playoffs. What am I doing between now and the first puck drop? I am immersing myself in the Stockholm Viking locker room, learning the culture, learning the systems, building relationships with my fellow teammates and the General Manager, in short, I am preparing for each battle ahead of us. It is my expectation that we will give everything we have in each and every battle so at the end of the season we will lift our heads high and proclaim that we have won the War. We will be victorious, together. Beware VHLE, the Vikings are coming, we come for the ultimate prize, and we will fight until it is ours.” Felicia Hardy Comes to Europe prepared, VHLE are you prepared?
  4. Here is the press conference for this week, wanted to release this after the draft so our new members could participate Make sure to answer all questions with a full sentence 1) What is your personal goal for TPE per week? 2) Is there anything I can do to assist with that goal? 3) What type of player are you building - please discuss skills not position? 4) What would you like our team goal to be (playoffs, championship, fun locker room, etc)? 5) Have any of you found the link between my first players name and my current players name, if so what is it? 6) Why did you pick you players name? Is it significant?
  5. What should I discuss this season Every season I put together a list of potential topics that I can do for the season to fulfill my media spot requirements. I find that by producing a running topic it makes it easier for me to put together the required document at the correct word length. As I don’t really like repeating topics, I am going to start by discussing some of the topics I have done just in case they can encourage someone else. I have done a series on my players touring their new team's city, in that case it was London England. I have done a series on running a box at the stadium and inviting various charities which allowed me to discuss some very worthwhile organizations, last season I did a series on my thoughts as a first season GM. Oh year I almost forgot one of my favorite topics and that was my VHL article series called Simon WTF, where I discussed odd things that came out of the sims. There were others during various seasons, but I have forgotten them. So, what will I look at doing this season let me list some options: Countdown to season 100: okay I know this is not going to be my topic as I really know extraordinarily little about the history of the VHL, but it would be neat to see a 10-piece series where someone provides the greatest moment in each decade of seasons and covers the history of the league. It could be a serious piece or a lighthearted piece (dumbest forum quotes of the last hundred seasons). Someone could really have fun with this one, but it won’t be me. A review of Davos from a prospect's perspective: this would give me a chance to pay attention to Davos games while not on the team and discuss/review how the team is doing from an outside perspective. It would allow Felicia Hardy to get to know the players they will be playing with and hopefully learn to integrate into the system. I can do a comparative review of friends/competitors Felicia Hardy and Jillian Woods: Noting that at this point Felicia has the upper hand as the Founders Cup Champion even though Jillian had the better production record (only because Felicia lost 4 games due to a trade). Who will have the better season production, who will lead their team farther? Will one of them raise the trophy again this season? There is so much here to unpack. So as my last option I am going to put out some random stats that I make up as a target for my player over the season and then see if they come true: I kind of did a version of this with Molly the Cat but it was a countdown to greatness, the quest to become the highest goal scorer in London history which oddly enough came true. SO I will look at putting together a one season quest for stats, goals, assists, points, hits, blocks, etc and see how many of them I can achieve. Not sure yet which one I will pick but by this time next week I will release the new season of Media spots.
  6. Felicia Hardy heads to Europe Well, the draft is over, and Felicia Hardy is incredibly happy with the outcome. Not only did Felicia go in the top 10 picks in the draft, but they also went to two very promising locations. In the VHLE Felicia Hardy will be Playing with the Stockholm Vikings along with some other talented young players like Johnny Tsumani and Lazlo Holmes. Having finished the VHLM season and winning the championship with Lazlo Holmes may mean these players already have chemistry on the ice. In the VHL draft Felicia went to HC Davos where they will add depth to the defensive core that will hopefully allow the team to make the leap back to competitive form. Felicia Hardy is excited to join the team and play with veteran players like Sunset Moth, Grimgor Ironhide and Forum Content. When asked about the opportunity to learn from players on both teams Felicia Hardy had the following to say: “I have been watching VHL hockey since I was a child, and I was able to sit in my father’s lap. I grew up with the names of the players that I am now going to skate with. To be able to train with them, work out with them, learn from them is beyond my wildest imagination, and yet it is the reality I am faced with.” Felicia Hardy will be taking some time during this offseason to go to Europe and meet both GM’s, take some time to skate on the ice with each team and to meet their new teammates and then settle into accommodations in Stockholm.

  9. Post Draft Interview with Felicia Hardy While there is a lull between picks in first round of the VHL season 94 draft we wanted to take a moment to sit and talk with Felicia Hardy who was taken sixth overall by HC Davos. Felicia, thanks for agreeing to talk with us, how are you feeling about being taken sixth overall? Honestly, the VHL is the premier hockey league in the world, anyone who gets drafted is among the top talent anywhere. I know I personally played with several players who accepted entry into lesser leagues like the NHL just so they could continue their careers. Yes, we all dream of being drafted first overall but if you look at the draft board so far there are now seven players listed who are exceptional players and there are still a list more waiting for their name to be called that in any other draft would have gone first overall. So overall I am happy with sixth, but more importantly I am looking forward to signing with and playing for Davos. Speaking of Davos, can you elaborate on the process that got you there? I had several interactions with the GM prior to the draft. They had a well thought out plan that was designed to allow them to be competitive within the league for several seasons. They knew exactly what they were looking for. I liked the fact that they were honest about where they were sitting and that they were going to need to adjust depending on how this draft went. I was given the assurance that I was their top choice for Defender, and we would need to see how things progressed. What do you think you bring to Davos that will help them be competitive? The focus of my training is on being a defensively minded defender, I know I still have a lot to work on, but I expect that I will integrate into the team structure well in a couple seasons. That being said, I also have spent a lot of time focusing on the passing side of my game, to facilitate zone entry and exit but I have also found that it helps immensely in the offensive zone to assist in setting up plays. We will see how that plays out in the overall game. Either way I know I am going to get a lot of opportunities to work with the training staff in Davos so that I can elevate my game. I am also working on a lot of off ice things to improve my strength with the puck and my endurance. I am excited by this opportunity. Felicia, I want to thank you for your time tonight. We look forward to watching you this coming season in the VHLE and look forward to the VHLE Draft on Monday night. We expect that you will have an exceptional season and we look forward to seeing more of you as the seasons progress. Good luck in the draft Monday and in Season 94.

  11. Here is the press conference for this week, remember to answer questions with full sentences: 1) Which meal of the day is your favorite? 2) If you could eliminate one food from existence what would it be? 3) What is your favorite restaurant and what so you normally order? 4) They say that cilantro tastes different to people based on a genetic code, when you have cilantro does it taste like soap or not? 5) What is your junk food of choice? 6) Pretend it is your birthday, what desert would you choose to have?
  12. As we have finished season 93, I am going to shift gears from my seasonal theme for my media spots and delve into something else. I will more than likely pick up a new theme for season 94, but right now I haven’t given much thought to what that will be. In the meantime, I want to spend some time discussing some random thoughts that may or may not be interesting to others. Slider Bars in STHS – So we made some adjustments to the slider bars in STHS, and we were told that it should have a small impact on the scoring in the league. Looking at the leaderboard we saw about a 15% increase in the top player scoring. I'm not sure how this compares to the outcome that was expected but it seems significant to me. It will be interesting to see if these changes are altered and if they get implemented into the other leagues. Have we just created a new era for stat comparison, Welcome to the Post-Slider era everyone. Jesse Teno- I acknowledge that I am not the first to make comment on this and I don’t expect to be the last, however it is worthwhile to acknowledge that the career of Jesse Teno is in my opinion Hall of Fame caliber. Having played alongside and experienced them in the locker room, Aimkin (Jesse Teno) is a fantastic addition to this league and deserves recognition. Skip the VHLE – Well we have 2 players that have recreated and built fast enough that they may be over 400TPE prior to their draft (VHL, VHLE) meaning they could skip playing in the VHLE altogether. I don’t think either of them plan to do this but it is interesting to see that it is a viable option for those who are a maximum earner. The impacts on the ability to do a nine-season career open farther with the ability to skip either the VHLM or the VHLE depending on how you earn. Fantasy Zone – Okay I am going to say it and I am not sure anyone can provide a logical argument, but this season's fantasy zone was a bust. The process just didn’t pan out. I think we may need to rethink how this gets done over the next season. Offseason – we are now entering the offseason, the VHL finals are competed. It is official. So, what does that really mean? For the most part nothing. No games to look at but still the same activity. Earn TPE, build your player, get ready for what comes next. As we approach the end of offseason we will get predictions, supercoach, VHFL to change up the usual pattern but even these won’t cause a significant alteration. Well, there you have it folks, the random thoughts that go through my mind outside of the ramblings of a GM. Hope that you found them amusing, thought provoking, or mildly entertaining. If you were just bored by my thoughts, so be it. Keep up the great work this offseason, looking forward to reading others random thoughts.
  13. Nothing to edit here!
  14. Why is Team USA hosting the tournament in Canada (Calgary) this seams very odd indeed
  15. Okay so we are gong to have a fun Press conference 1) Mexico City Kings are going to get a pet, what type of animal should we get and why? 2) What should we name our pet, Why? 3) Would you be willing to take care of it, Why? 4) What would you like your players nick name to be? 5) Do you have a special hand shake with other players? 6) Do you have a ritual when it comes to entering the ice for a game?
  16. Ramblings of a first season GM. Okay so you might be able to argue that I am done my first season now that the Mexico City Kings have been eliminated and are in the post season. On the other hand, I can argue that the calendar still says season 93 so technically it is still my first season as a GM. Either way I am still choosing to continue my series of Ramblings on my thoughts as a GM. This may be a controversial statement, but I believe it to be true. The Offseason sucks more as a GM than it does as a player. Here is my argument: First, the GM must admit that they have failed the team and the players. The GM role is to build a team that can compete and provides the opportunity for the players to achieve their full potential. Those that lose out early, or worse those teams that don’t even make the playoffs don’t allow their players that opportunity. Second, the GM duties during the offseason are a rollercoaster ride of activity. The offseason is an endless time of huge activity and waiting. Draft interviews, wait, Draft Pick Prep, wait, release waiver players for draft, adjust discord group, Draft, contact newly drafted players, potential free agency, start player development training again, build lines, build team cohesion. Wait. Finally, we get to the beginning of the next season. Third, you lose people you shared something with. A season isn’t a long time, yet it is also long enough to build connections, to get to know someone and then they are gone. At least in the VHLM the main goal is to help a player move on, which is a demanding thing to do. You can still follow up, watch players progress in the VHLE, but it is different from having a shared experience. The player gets the excitement on the next phase, the GM must stay and do it all over again. Fourth a GM focus is divided, well at least it is if the GM has their own player. The GM needs to focus on their team first but also wants to experience the highs and lows of being a player. Most of us entered this VHL experience as a player and so that is the primary interaction point, we evaluate the other aspects through. But when someone takes on the role as GM their focus gets divided and becomes a little strained. So, there it is, my thoughts on the impact of offseason on the GM, how it is a tougher experience and one that I can see will have a tole over time. Now don’t get me wrong, there is also a sense of excitement in being a GM. There is a hope that the plans you made and the implementation of those plans over a period of time will see great reward. The ability to build something that can stand up over time. That is what keeps the GM position interesting. On to season 94 and hopefully success.
  17. No offseason tournaments do not give TPE or money, they are just a fun way to keep active in the community. However the Junior showcase is a great way to get noticed by those looking to draft at the VHLE and VHL level. As for all the offseason TPE opportunities I will post them to the Discord server and help with those, no problems there VHLE has the same TPE earning limits and VHLM, you will be able to go to 400TPA by the end of VHLE, then you will graduate to the VHL.
  18. The offseason can sometimes feel long. This Press conference will be about keeping active: 1) Are you planning on joining, or watching any of the offseason tournaments, like Junior showcase, ProAm, World Cup? Why? 2) What is your goal for TPE earning during offseason? 3) In prep for next season do you plan on taking part in Supercoach, VHFL or Predictions, to gain extra TPE? 4) Do you have any questions about the career tasks that you can do now to gain TPE, If you have completed it, are you planning for the ones you can do in the VHLE? 5) For those who will be drafted, have you thought about what you will say during draft interviews? For those not being drafted, are you looking forward to your next season based on the team you were drafted by? 6) Do you have nay questions about anything noted above, tag me and let me know the questions and I will answer the best I can?
  19. For those of you who have been following my media spot series you know that i have been discussing my first season as a GM and my thoughts on various aspects of the game, of the systems and of the strategy of being a GM. This edition of Ramblings of a First Season GM will focus on the progression into the playoffs. Now I am going to start this conversation stating that I don’t have high hopes of doing extremely well in the playoffs. After taking a position of selling at the trade deadline with a focus of building in future years it has left the Mexico City Kings with limited power going into the playoffs. Based on that my goal is to put together a strong enough strategy to not be swept. So how do you address a playoff series where you are entering in last place and are placing the first-place team in the league. My first thought was to focus on the one strength we have left which is our goaltending. That would suggest that I should set the available sliders to be more defensively minded, try to limit shots and allow the goalie to steal some games. My second thought was to run in completely the opposite direction, allow the goalie to be who they are and then have everyone else focus on getting the needed goals to potentially win. If everyone is focused on defense it is more than likely that we won’t score anything. Focus solely on scoring and potentially the goalie can limit the other team and a 1 or 2 goal game for us just might be enough. Looking at the two extremes it may allow for the potential of stealing a game but what if that goes horribly wrong? A focus on defense ends in 0 goals for Mexico, a focus on scoring leaves the goalie pelted by shots and they just run up the score. Maybe a level of balance is needed. It was balance that got Mexico this far, that allowed Mexico to limit the goals against while still focusing on putting pucks in the net. Now I am not willing to give away my final strategy choice as my opponent if they are paying attention could use it against me. I will also note that as I write this, we have just finished the sim of game 4. Currently the series sits 3 games for Ottawa and 1 for Mexico. Yes, we happened to win game four with a shutout, the goalie came through and the rest of the players put up a couple goals to steal the game. I am so proud of them for taking one. Now, do I expect that we will take this win and make a run of games? No, I don’t. In fact, I expect that Ottawa will win the Founders Cup, they are that strong. Will we lay down and let that happen. No, we are going to make them earn it. So, there you have it, my ramblings for the week. We will see what I discuss next week, in Ramblings of a First Season GM.
  20. Yes, as we approach the new season there will be a few activities that are once a season things, there is a fantasy league to sign up for, there is something called supercoach, there is a league award prediction. In addition I will help you get set up for some offseason tournaments, think of them like the world juniors or Spangler cup.
  21. Here is the Press Conference for the Week, remember to do full sentences 1) With the time off between the end of the season and beginning of payoffs what will your player do? 2) What are your hopes for the first round of playoffs? 3) During offseason how active do you expect to be? 4) Do you want me to reach out with reminders of TPE earning during offseason? 5) If you will be in the VHLM next year are you wanting to stay with Mexico (I can't guarantee that), If you are going to the VHLE who do you hope to get drafted by? 6) Is there anything you need to know about changing seasons?
  22. For those of you who have been following my media spots this season you know that I have been doing a series on my thoughts as a first season GM. It has been an interesting process of learning the behind the process scene activities, getting to know the other GM’s, getting up to speed on discord, and learning to assist individuals in building their player. This week’s topic of my GM ramblings is the look ahead to the next season. First things to note is that I made the decision that Mexico was not going to be competitive in the playoffs for season 93 so I took the opportunity to position myself for the season 94 draft. To do that I took most of my top players who were expected to be above 200TPE and would move the VHLE and traded them to playoff contending teams for draft picks. There were two pieces that were important to me in the process: 1) I needed to make sure anyone I moved had the chance to play in the playoffs and potentially contend for the Cup. In that I also made sure that I focused first on all the players that I don’t manage. I never officially put Felicia Hardy on the trade block, but in the deal to move the last player I was hoping to trade, Hardy was asked about, so I made the choice to pick up some additional picks to strengthen Mexico’s draft standings. 2) Any trade I made had to set Mexico up for success in the future. And more specifically it needed to make Mexico successful in the next two seasons. Yes, I am putting it out there, Mexico is focused on winning the Cup within the next two seasons, the VHLM needs to take us seriously as we are coming hard. Beyond the trade deadline I have already started my process of evaluating my current players to see how they will fit into the framework of the future. Currently I have 3 options of players I have drafted that might be around next season. However, I expect it will be only 1 as there are 2 players that are currently over 170tpe so by the time we get to the end of the season and through the offseason they should be moving to the VHLE. Outside of my current draft stock I have a few players that I have picked up on waiver as they joined the league. All of them seem very engaged right now, however I can accept that there is the possibility of that changing over the offseason. If I have my way, I will be trying to make sure all of these players remain active over the offseason and as much as possible stay with Mexico. I know that will be difficult to do but it is my goal. Outside that, I plan to target a few key positions in the draft with the goal of creating a strong core that I can then build around. So, for now, we do what we can in season 93 and plan for season 94.
  23. I joined the VHL as a referral form my son, it was something I could do with him that we both could enjoy.
