  1. — A childhood dream is about to be realized as Lachlan Summers has now completed a season in Victory Hockey League Europe. It was time to take the next step in his career and move up to the VHL, in which he would be sticking around in Europe as a member of HC Davos Dynamo. Lachlan was drafted 12th overall in the S86 Entry Draft with the expectation that he would be the successor in the crease to the legendary Xavier Booberry, whose illustrious career is now beginning to come to a close. The Aussie was the second goaltender to come off the board in a stacked draft for netminders, and this is a testament as to how he is gradually becoming a name that will be known by VHL players, coaches, and fans alike due to his tenacity and resilience despite the shortcomings he’s experienced in his career. He has come far from being the little boy sitting in his childhood home in Brisbane watching VHL Continental Cup highlights, desiring the fame and glory like the players who came before him. After a solid season in the VHLE with the Vikings, Lachlan posted a 27-28-9 record, .922SV%, 2.74, and three shutouts. However, Stockholm fell short of securing a playoff spot, and this postseason curse seemed to follow Lachlan wherever he went. He only started in the playoffs once in his three-year career so far, and was with the San Diego Marlins in the VHLM at the time. Unfortunately, they were eliminated by the Las Vegas Aces in the first round. The netminder aims to alter this path with Davos, and aspires to become the cornerstone piece that this team needs to be successful in many seasons to come. Is he anxious to fill such big shoes? No, of course not. Lachlan has always carried a quiet confidence and— for the lack of a better term— worked his ass off to get to the position he is now in today, and feels ready to man the net once Booberry hangs up the skates. Although the Australian is moving up now, he still has to wait his turn in line for a few more seasons before he can properly succeed Booberry. The seasons he will spend as Davos’ backup will be crucial to his development, and with one of the best goaltenders in the VHL mentoring him, Lachlan is certain he will be ready to take over the crease when the opportunity arises. He will receive the chance to hone his skills, and sit back and watch the VHL’s finest in Booberry. Although all eyes will be on him, potentially critiquing his every move down to miniscule details— like the way he positions his skates when hugging a post— Lachlan Summers has never shied away from a challenge.
  2. Every one of your nominations has been well deserved.
  3. The friendly rivalry everyone has been waiting for!
  4. What a wild month in the VHL. Today, I just wanted to go and ramble for a few hundred words about my experience and such. So my VHLE team, the Stockholm Vikings, unfortunately failed to make the playoffs despite securing the trio in the draft to add to an awesome team thanks to Mubbles. The only explanation is that Simon doesn’t want any team with the trio on its roster to win a championship. It happened in S84 with the waiver Marlins, and now it’s come back around. I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t disappointed but I don’t know what we could’ve done differently. We just had too many unlucky sims. Damn you, Simon. I had a lot of fun as a member of the Vikings, though, and it was an awesome experience to play with John and Sadie again as well as meet new friends. Hopefully, the trio will be able to reunite in the future and then recreate together. Lachlan had solid stats to end the season, with a .922 SV%, a 2.74 GAA, and 3 shutouts to his name. Next season, he moves onto the VHL to backup Booberry for a season or two and I am anxious to make the big jump, but I know I’ll be able to keep up and eventually become the next elite goaltender that Davos needs. The 2022 Christmas Charity Drive was a complete success! I’m proud to say I contributed a donation to the cause and we absolutely destroyed the goal. I thought I was dreaming when I saw “20 TPE and a doubles week,” but it’s very much real and boosted me to a whopping 474 TPE! I’ll be looking to hit at least 500 before S87 starts and I’m stoked to see what Lachlan can do once he begins to man the crease full-time for Davos. I think one of the highlights of my December in the league was seeing that I was nominated for the Fredrik Elmebeck Memorial Trophy this season! I was shocked when I saw my name listed on the ballot, and while it’s a long shot that I’ll actually win the award, it’s an honor to see myself listed along such amazing and impactful members in the VHL. That means the absolute world to me that two or more people decided that I was a worthy candidate, as I’m the only member listed who does not have an official job position. I hope to further exemplify what it means to be an Elmebeck nominee, and congratulations to all who were nominated as well! To cap off this article, I’m also stoked to share that I’m a part of the VSN graphics team now! I created my first graphic for Leandro’s article “The VHLE Math Show,” and now it’s currently displayed on the homepage of the portal in all its glory. That’s freaking wicked. So to sum things up, December has been super eventful and I wanted to take some time to recap it all in one piece. Here’s to a great new year, everyone, and thanks for reading Kirby Rambles!

  6. Lachlan saunters into the media room for a press conference, stepping up to the podium and taking a seat. The VHLE playoff race is heating up with only 3 points separating third and fifth in the standings. “Lachlan, how do you feel about Stockholm’s playoff chances as we approach the trade deadline?” “I feel good about it. I mean— dropping two important games in a row against Oslo and Bratislava doesn’t help much, but this Vikings team is resilient and I know we’ll watch the film and improve ourselves for the rest of our games.” “What happened on the last goal you let in during the third period against the Watchmen?” “Did you watch the puck?” “Yes.” “Did it take a weird bounce?” “Looked like it, yes.” “There’s your answer. Flukey goal, but I won’t use that as an excuse. Can’t be letting those soft pucks in when we have a lead in the third. . . I need to be better.” After answering a barrage of questions, Lachlan was ready to call it a night, thanking the reporters. He pulls away from the podium, offering the cameras a wave before exiting the room.
