nerji got a reaction from Triller in The draft experience for Jeff Lewis
Entering the draft for both the VHL and VHLE was a bit of a stressful time for Jeff Lewis. Not hearing from many teams had him wondering if perhaps his decline in training really hurt him. Fortunately for him one of the teams that actually did reach out (expressing they didn't think he'd fall that far to them) was able to select him 10th! Being selected 10th overall in the VHL draft by the Moscow Menace was a very happy moment. Speaking with the Menace before the draft about themselves and the league was one of the rare times he got to talk to someone and in return he was very glad to have been drafted there! While he is a season or two away from playing for Moscow he at least knows where his home is and that feels good and gives him something to continue working towards.

Before he lands in Moscow he will spend some time in the VHLE, but the question before the draft was where? Nobody from the VHLE had reached out to him prior to the draft. Do they scout for the VHLE he wondered to himself? Does the draft work differently? As someone new to the VHL he had no real idea. Unable to attend the draft live, he was able to check in on the results as they were updated. After two rounds he wondered if maybe he wasn't in this draft? Plenty of people with less than 200 TPE had been drafted (while he was at 268 TPE) but he had not been selected so maybe his slowed down training was really affecting him or perhaps he just wasn't in this draft. He had no idea, he was new to all of this.

Finally, in the third round he was drafted 23rd overall by the Cologne Express. Glad to be drafted, his mind wandered to why he had fallen so far. That didn't last long as a couple of Express reached out to him, one taking a particular interest in helping with his build which made him feel welcome right off the bat. Going to spend a couple years in Cologne, it felt good to be welcomed and speak to some of those there already that were interested in helping him train to be the best he could become.

The only sad thing is leaving his VHLM team, Mississauga Hounds, behind. They were the first team to draft him, welcome him, and help him with advice. The team had an active locker room and was pretty lively. The product on the ice was pretty solid as well doing extremely well in the regular season and falling just short of the finals.

Regardless of how the drafts played out, he is extremely happy to be playing in the VHL no matter what level and is having a great time doing so and looks forward to a very long career and hopefully many goals scored! bring on the VHLE season! He thanks all those involved in the leagues who make things happen!

Being my first season in the VHL I was really unsure of what to expect, I still feel I know very little about how everything works. My first season was with the Mississauga Hounds and it was a pretty good season overall!

The Hounds finished season 88 tied for first overall with the Mexico City Kings with 101 points. Ultimately we would fail to reach the finals after losing to the Philadelphia Reapers who finished 12 points back of us in the regular season but had a fantastic run themselves.

For my personal stats, it was a pretty fun season to watch. I finished with 44 goals, 40 assists, for 84 points. The 44 goals were second in the league for goal total and I led the league on shots with 417 shots. The playoffs were also a good showing for myself as I added 5 goals, 9 assists for 14 points in 11 games.

I look forward to my first season in the VHLE with Cologne Express and hope I can continue to do well for the teams I play for!

I just figured scouting was a semi rare thing in the VHL. I heard from two VHL teams prior to the VHL draft and exactly zero from the VHLE teams and I fell to the third round in that draft. Regardless, happy to have some teams set now but going to miss Mississauga

Obviously this is going to be a contentious topic. @jacobcarson877 just wrote an article about his issues with it, or its shortcomings at least. The E had a stated purpose, but is it really meeting that purpose anymore as of S88 going into S89? I have some massive issues with the E here and some of it stems from today.

Anyways, the title and preview is just a bit of bait for some clicks. I don't actually have it out for the E. What I do have it out for are GMs who don't do their jobs. I'll be straight up and say there are plenty of things I don't do well myself. I forget to give bonuses to prospects, my check-ins are sporadic at best, if they even happen at all, and I simply can't win a cup. So I know I have my own issues and shortfalls as a GM and person.

But holy FUCK do some of you need to put in some more effort in scouting. How are we a sim league and I hear that only 3-4 VHLE and VHL GMs COMBINED reached out to first/second round prospects, if they even reached out at all. This league exists for the experience of our members, and most people I spoke to this pre-draft process said only 2-3 teams including Moscow spoke to them between the E and the VHL. And I reached out over the weekend to most!

I really don't know what's going on with some of our GM's but it's pretty embarrassing that some folks draft people well within their projected range without speaking to them. I selected a guy who wasn't spoken to by a single VHLE GM. If we don't step up our efforts, I don't know what some of us are getting out of this role. Dunno what competition there'll be in the VHL if prospects lose interest by the time they're drafted since no one's communicating with them.

Anyways I put this in the Thunderdome since I know I don't have the complete picture and am not offering 100% factual info. But the trend points towards the majority of VHL and E GMs not putting in the effort to get to know prospects, and the lack of effort is noticed by those eager prospects.

    1) I think I did not too bad, probably a bit better than I had hoped for in my first season.
    2) I'd have dedicated more time and less welfare. Sadly, real life doesn't always cooperate.
    3) No, I did not.
    4) No suggestions, I thought they did a good job of taking over and livened up the discord quite a bit
    5) Pineapple. Easily my favourite fruit!
    6) Hmm, I'm not sure honestly. I like lots of them but my favourite? Maybe Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within or Titan A.E. - but I'm guessing when I finally get around to watching the Mario movie it will become my favourite

Thanks for the kind words! I really wanted to earn as much as possible but the time requirements between the newborn, puppy, and work really caught me by surprise. I'm thankful the league has a welfare option and I keep trying to hit some of the other tasks. I suck at the trivia though. Really enjoying my time so far and hopefully things ease up here on my end so I can start getting into some media!

Glad to see you are enjoying your time here! Just to help with your trivia quandry, here's a couple of things that could potentially help to make sure you can get the 2 TPE in trivia each time:

    1) If you refer your question to the 2-trivia-2-hunt channel in the VHL discord, you will usually get someone respond within minutes who will link you to the appropriate place that will help answer your question. E.g. If the question is about GM's, a user will send you a link to the list of all the GM's for each team on the forum.

    2) Not sure if it will help with every question that's currently in the system since I wrote it a bit ago now, but I wrote this piece up about a year ago which could maybe help you find the answers:

It’s been 1034 days since the D.C. Dragons selected Hall of Famer Groovy Dood with the first overall pick in the Season 73 Draft, marking the last time that a first-gen player was selected first overall in the VHL Draft. Since then though, while there have been several talented first-gens enter the draft and gone on to do great things in the league, none have been selected in the top three picks of the draft since Dood’s first overall selection. However, this draft presents a unique opportunity for first-gens to break into those top three selections as, with the league finally finishing its transition from eight season careers to nine season careers these last couple of seasons, there weren’t as many of the traditional trade-deadline recreates as usual and there was in fact only one player in this class (Pope Francis) that created with over 70 recreate TPE.

So, could a first-gen go first overall in this upcoming draft? It would be a case of deja-vu for Advantage, who entered that Season 73 Draft mentioned previously with his player Tyler Walker having the highest TPE in the class before being selected second overall and once again currently leads this draft class in TPE. While there are a lot of promising first-gens in this draft class, I think these three stand out as the best potential candidates of being taken first overall.

Note: All numbers used accurate as of W/E 4/14 except for Practice Facility which updated for next week early.
    Jeff Lewis @nerji

Currently the highest TPE first-gen in this draft class, nerji found our league through our Pro Baseball Experience affiliate and immediately made a very good impression, kicking off their VHL career with six straight weeks of 11 or 12 capped TPE and, while they haven’t quite been hitting that high recently having been busy with a new born and a new puppy (congratulations on both nerji!), they’ve still had good activity and in their early weeks have demonstrated that when they have time available, they have the capabilities to be a top earner in the VHL. They also have a build that a lot of General Managers will be interested in, as teams are always on the look-out for scoring threats on the forward lines.

    Fradin McGryer @Fradin99

Of the potential first-gen candidates for first overall, Fradin McGryer has been the most publicly active player on the VHL discord, frequently contributing to discussion in there and prospective VHL GMs will be happy to see that as that means they could potentially bring a very active asset to their team’s locker room. That wouldn’t be the only positive Fradin would bring though, as they’ve been doing a great job of earning TPE, hitting 10 or more capped TPE in five of their first six weeks in the league. The one thing that could effect Fradin McGryer’s draft stock is that their current build is leaning towards being a defensive defenseman, which is not a build that has typically been drafted early in the VHL Draft, but hopefully the recent successes of similarly minded players like the award winning pair of second round selections Brian Payne and Jake Thunder will change GM’s approach to players with those builds.

    Tobias Weiss @jfaly

There are only three players in this draft class who have earned the maximum 12 capped TPE every single week in the league. Two of them are recreates Eric Queefson and Montgomery Burns, but the third is first-gen Tobias Weiss who has gotten off to the best possible start as a new member of the VHL. Weiss actually shares a lot of similarities to Liv Slater, the first first-gen taken in the last draft who was also a fellow Houston Bulls defenseman that was consistently earning 12 TPE in the lead-up to the draft and both have demonstrated interest in being more involved in the league by taking up a JST GM role. While they aren’t yet in the top-10 in their draft class in TPE, the only reason for this is their late joining date and their current rate of earning will see them a lot higher in the rankings come draft day.

    5) None. I haven't read anything lately and I rarely watch TV. I guess the Stanley Cup playoffs might count?

    3) I don't have a preference at all. Will just be happy to be drafted by someone!
    4) I like the logo, it's pretty cool.

It's been an exciting season so far, this being my rookie season in the VHLM for the Mississauga Hounds. The team is off to a fantastic start sitting at 14-4-2 sitting in first place overall. Not sure where the team was expected to finish but it's been a fun ride so far.

For the rookie season of Jeff Lewis, he has 10 goals, 11 assists for 21 points in 20 games. I am not sure where that stands for rookies this season as I don't know how to look that up on the site but I am happy with that performance so far.

The team is leading the league in goals for with 75 and aren't too bad at goals against as well sitting in the middle of the pack with 57.

Miami and Halifax are both also having great seasons and don't sit too far behind Mississauga in the standings in the Eastern Conference so Mississauga will have to keep things going as the season continues.

The Junior Showcase Tournament has ended and I am thankful for that. I was generally pretty excited to get things underway and see how I did but when things had to be restarted, so much changed that I lost interest. I am EXTREMELY grateful for those that put in the work for this, don't get me wrong. However, during the restart our team did far worse and I did even worse than that.

As someone new, my TPE wasn't the highest so I was barely making 15 minutes per game while some forwards were closing in on 30 minutes a game. As a result, I didn't put up as many points as I had hoped and kind of felt useless. I can only hope that for the next one I have bulked up my TPE some and am able to make a better contribution.

A huge thank you to those of you that help put the tournament on. It gives us something to do in the off season and that is very much appreciated!

The new season is underway and with it, the career of Jeff Lewis of the Mississauga Hounds. The season kicked off with the Hounds facing the Saskatoon Wild in what ended up a pretty close game with the Hounds prevailing 2-0. Both goals were scored in the first two minutes of the game by BK Whopper and after that, nothing would get by either goalie. Jonny Elgar would pick up the shutout stopping all 35 shots he faced.

The Hounds second game was against the San Diego Marlins. Mississauga would have a commanding 4-2 lead headed into the third but the marlins has a very strong third period out shooting the Hounds 12-5 and outscoring them 3-0. The final score would be 5-4 for San Diego. Lewis would be held off the scoreboard for the second game in a row.

Next up for the Hounds would be back to back games against the Mexico City Kings with the first game going to a shootout with Mexico City winning the game 4-3. The Kings would jump out to a 2-0 lead in the first period with the Hounds tying it up at 2 after two periods. The third saw the Hounds take a 3-2 lead but Mexico City would tie it up just a couple of minutes later. Lewis would score his first goal in this game and earning third star of the game.
In the second game, the Kings would get off to a 2-0 lead again before Mclean Hoover II would score his first goal at 9:29 of the second with an assist going to Jeff Lewis. In the third period the Hounds would add two more goals with Jeff Lewis picking up a second assist and winning the game 3-2.

The Hounds currently have a record of 2-1-1 good for 5 points and tied for second with two other teams (Miami Marauders and Philadelphia Reapers) in the early going of the season. Coming up the Hounds have games against the Philadelphia Reapers (2-1-1), Ottawa Lynx (0-4-0) and Saskatoon Wild (1-3-0).

While the season is young, it's nice to see the Hounds doing well to start. Also good to see is Jeff Lewis with a goal and two assists in the first four games. He's nervous to start out his career but his team has been very supportive.

Jonny Elgar has been outstanding in net. He acknowledges the season is early still but Elgar leads the league in goals against average with a 2.46 and sits in second in the league for save percentage at .921!

When asked how he felt so far on his season, Lewis said "The team staff have been fantastic and my teammates are very supportive. We have a younger team and are learning new things everyday so we go out there and give it all we've got". He plans to continue to work hard on his training and plans on focusing on his overall defensive game a little while also working on his shot some more.

With this being his first season, Lewis has a lot to learn about the league and other players so there will definitely be an adjustment period but he's learning something new everyday!

During the lead up to the draft I had only heard from two or three teams so I was really unsure of where I'd end up or where in the draft I'd be selected but I am quite happy with this end result. One of the teams that did reach out was Mississauga and I had a good chat with them and I really liked their vision and what they are planning to accomplish with the Hounds.

Shortly after the draft I arrived at the locker room and quickly found it was after hours as it was fairly quiet! I look forward to meeting my teammates and getting the new season underway!

nerji got a reaction from Dom in I've been drafted!
After a fairly lengthy wait, or what felt like one anyway, I have been drafted to a VHLM team! Tonight I was selected 6th overall in the S88 VHLM Dispersal Draft by the Mississauga Hounds! It's kind of a homecoming for myself as I spent some of my youth actually growing up in Mississauga!
