    1. It was a fun season and I feel prepared to make that next step. Sometimes shit doesn't turn out the way you want but I don't think the results reflects how well we did as a team.

    2. As long as it's not 200 goals against I think I'll be happy. I hope to be seeing my teammates in the future and maybe even playing with them in the VHL one day.

    3. I shat the bed. Fml.

    4. Jarome Iginla never won a cup and he's a hofer

    5. @jhatty8 probably he's pretty cool.

    6. Thanks for all the help you've given me. I probably won't have stuck around if not for you but I really wanted us to win it all.  See you next season in the SSL @AJW😎

After being drafted to London, I was again declaring my eligibility for yet another draft. I put my name in for the VHLE and was luckily drafted by the Vasteras Iron Eagles.

I had actually known the Vesteras Iron Eagles prior to my arrival. It was @Lemorse7  who scouted me in my youth and advised me to declare for the VHLM draft. I had a feeling the Iron Eagles would be calling my name and I'm definitely looking forward to one day playing there.

After all of I had arrived back in Houston where I learned I had been appointed as the alternative captain this season for the Houston Bulls. Not often is a goaltender given this honour and I intend to give it my best. Not just on the ice but off the ice. I'm not longer the rookie here and I know our new corp of rookies will be looking up to me. It'll be my duty to help lead this team to glory.

    1. Just keep grinding and believing in the system. I have faith that we'll be turning a lot of heads near the end of the season.

    2. Captain should represent the players and imo, that means giving them the vote.

    3. We need some more francophone music! Nothing sounds better than the French language.

    4. Montréal and I find it a travesty that we don't have a team in this league. Some of the greatest players and most passionate fans come from Québec and to be unrepresented is disappointing.

    5. I'm a player, not a GM and I'd like to keep it that way. I'm interested in the sporting aspects not management or business aspects.

    6. Well I've always wanted to pick up music. Maybe the piano or bass. I enjoy listening to music so it would be nice to be able to play music myself.

Houston's S89 roster is set! Before game 1 gets rolling tonight, I am thrilled to announce our captains for this upcoming season!

    Captain
    Kyle Toms @Ktoms22

Drafted 14th overall, Kyle Toms returns to the Bulls lineup for his second season in the VHLM. Toms struggled to find his legs throughout S88 but through development over the off-season, Toms is ready to be the face of our franchise.

    Assistant Captain
    Joe Block @jblock3

Joe Block enters his second season with the Bulls as the number one blue line threat. Block is determined to be a top defender in the league and with his activity and earning, Block will be our first assistant captain this season.

    Assistant Captain
    Devon Giguere @omniscius

After a slow first season in the VHLM, Houston was lucky enough to watch Devon Giguere excel in his earning throughout the off-season. Giguere enters S89 as one of the top goaltenders to watch and will be our second assistant captain this season; a name we will depend on every night.

Congratulations players! Let's have a great season 🔥

omniscius got a reaction from Pifferfish in Devon Giguere's Draft Day Experience
It's a hot summer day and I'm dressed all formally for the big day. Today is the day I patiently await hoping a team selects me. I had given myself a great shot with my past season in Houston going fairly well, especially my performance in the playoffs (despite being swept). I thrive under pressure and based on my draft interviews I had a feeling I was going to be taken.

The first pick is announced and it's not me. I definitely did not think I'd be going first overall, so this wasn't a shock for me. Then, the first round had been completed without my name being announced. I had a feeling that was going to happen, I was really expecting myself to go second round.

The second round is under way and name after name called and here I am still waiting to hear my own. I start sweating now and I can feel an existential dread creeping in. Had I just wasted years of my life just to fall short? Is my name ever going to be called.

It was then at the end of the 2nd round at 32nd overall that I was chosen by London United. I was pretty excited to go to a Canadian team, especially one not too far from home. I wish we had a Montréal team or any Québécois.

Nevertheless, I hurried up on stage and was presented with the #35 jersey, an honour to my family's legacy. I shook my new GM's hand and before I knew it I was a professional hockey player. This is surely the beginning of a long but beautiful journey. I hope to use my time here in Houston wisely, so that by the time I'm called up, I'm VHL-ready.

This has been the best day of my life and I'm so grateful to be spending this with my family and friends who have supported me through everything. I know without them, I wouldn't have made it as far as I have. I can't wait to step out on the ice for London United and in the meanwhile I'll keep grinding out here in Houston in the meanwhile.

    2. The offseason felt like such a blur to me really.

    3. @jhatty8 of course!

    4. If I could stay here for 5 seasons that would have been sick, but I'd be pretty happy staying here for 4.

    5. I think most people grow up wanting a shoe deal and I'm no different there tbh. I would love to have my own signature shoes but I'd want them to be really affordable. I wouldn't want my shoes to only be worn by rich kids.

    6. I won a lot growing up through the youth system. That's why Houston drafted me and I'm hoping to bring that success to them this season!

    1. I think I did well in my first season, but I know we have another level in us and I'm hoping next season we can come out even stronger!

    2. I was a bit introverted this season, but I want to become more familiar with everyone moving forward.

    3. I think it would be unfair to blame it on one thing, person, or unit. Hopefully, we can use this pain of losing and turn it around for the better.

    4. Yeah, I am, but I haven't been keeping up too much outside of my own team's games. It's definitely keeping me sharp for the upcoming season.

    5. I would want to play with @comrade cat  in the future if possible.

    6. I like to go back to Montréal to spend time with my family. It's also an exciting and fun city to live in. The food is great and there's also stuff going on year round. I'd definitely encourage yous to come and visit.

So with another season in Houston, came another Flaming Bull Award!  I wanted to switch it up from last season and make a fresh gif for each player again!  One for each player but I will only post a couple here for claim!

    1. 10-0 of course

    2. Doesn't matter how people rate us as long as we believe in ourselves and work hard.

    3. Where I'm needed most I guess and I'll be sad to leave. This team has treated me kindly.

    4. #1

    5. I grew up with a dog back in Montréal, but when I got drafted I had to leave him with my parents.

    6. I try to do a lot of yoga, especially as a goalie you really need to keep your hips open. It helps loosen my body up, but it's also really good for the mind too. I feel calm in net knowing I've done the best I can to take care of all the things leading up to the game to give myself the best chance possible to succeed.

    Hello everyone,

Not gonna bother with a members tag on this, if you see it then great, you will be rewarded for that. If you don’t then…. Well why am I writing this because if you don’t see it how can you read this part?

Anyway, today marks 5717 days (that’s 15 years, 7 months, and 26 days if you’re curious) since the VHL opened its doors. What a random number you might say, why does that matter? Well if I do the math, and I have, I was born 5717 days before the start of the VHL. Given that I joined on day one and have been here ever since that means today marks the official day that I have been in the VHL just as long as I was outside of it. Is that a stupid thing to celebrate? Probably but that won’t stop me; so please let me indulge in a bit of sentimentality for a moment.

When the VHL started I had not yet completed high school, I had never had a girlfriend, hell I had never kissed a girl. I was a lonely nerd turning to the internet to find something to do; and I found it. The VHL was not my first sim league, wasn’t even the first one I joined ran by the people who ran it, but it was the first that felt different and felt like it had a good chance of surviving which so few at that point had done. I found a community here. I cannot honestly say that everything went perfectly or that my start in the VHL was without fault; I very nearly left for good within 2 months, but I stayed. I have now not only finished high school but university and going on 10 years working post-schooling. I have now not only had a steady relationship but a wife and two children, a life. All the while the VHL has been there, constantly evolving with the times sure but present. Over 5 years ago I took up the mantel of commissioner. I did it not because I thought I was necessarily the best person for the job but because I thought the league needed something, it was in trouble and I didn’t want to see it fail. I like to think that in these 5 years of growth I have at least stalled that failure.

5717 days likely means nothing to any of you, just as that paragraph likely means nothing to any of you, but it means something to me. This league, this place, this community has been a standard in my life for longer than most anything else. I’m not going anywhere right now, that’s not what this is, but I did want to mark the occasion because this league does mean a lot to me.

So if you’ve made it this far feel free to take 5 uncapped TPE for your troubles, on me. I’m not sure the insane total I’ve had over the years (probably over 10k by now) so 5 for everyone that I bored with this story should suffice as a thank you for being my weird extended internet family.

    1. I guess having just joined I haven't had a ton of experience yet, but I did have a lot of people welcome me on the forum and it seems like a really fun community to be apart of.

    2. I'm not on a team yet, but I'm hoping whatever team I end up on we can both be a good fit for each other.

    3. Québec City and the mascot would be Carnaval de Bonhomme from Québec City's Carnaval. This might be corny and tbh my answer isn't to be taken seriously, but as a French-Canadian goalie whose idol is Patrick Roy, I'd love for Montréal or Québec City to get a team.

    4. I haven't performed yet, but I'm excited to step out onto the ice and show my new team why they made the right decision drafting me.

    5. I'd like to stay in Canada and try to win in my home country. I would hope my gm would reward my loyalty to the team and maybe I could be a one team player.

    6. Honestly, I'd love to visit Barcelona, Catalonia. I'm a huge FC Barcelona supporter and I also am interested in their history and culture.
