Moscow Menace Press Conference
flyersfan345 replied to FacebookFighter's topic in Team Press Conferences
New Presser while Spartan is away: 1. We really seem to dominate in scoring so far this year. How many players do you think we'll have finish in the top 10? 2. Piggybacking off of question #1, how many individual awards do you expect Moscow to bring home this season? 3. Are you seeing anything in your player so far this season that surprised you, and if so, what is it? 4. With so many high TPE players on our roster, are there any players you looked towards to help build your player up to who they are today? 5. With the second half of the season looming, what are you most excited about heading into the second half? 6. Our goal differential leads the VHL (+45 in 33GP as of this post). How high do you think it will be at the end of the season? -
Game 112 Saskatoon Wild (2) @ San Diego Marlins (5) This game was never in doubt and showed serious potential in San Diego's forwards today. Zak Trokker kicked off the scoring for the Marlins very early in the first to jump out to a lead they would never surrender, potting another on the powerplay late in the period with the first goal from Jean-Pierre Devote. Though the game was never in doubt, that's not to say Saskatoon would not respond. Defensive partners Mikko Tuomala and Brigitta Sandstrom combined for a powerplay goal late in the second to make it a 2-1 game heading into the third, but the third period was where San Diego really put the game on ice. Devote put up his ninth of the season and second of the game a quarter of the way through the period, quickly followed by a powerplay goal by Cardinal Copia 24 seconds later to make it 4-1. Tuomala and Sandstrom combined yet again on the powerplay for Saskatoon, potting Tuomala's second goal of the game, showcasing the strength of this duo, but it wouldn't be enough. With a little bit over six minutes remaining in the third, San Diego closed it out with a Devote goal - a hat trick at even strength to make it 5-2. From that point onwards, the game ended relatively quietly, with only a delay of game penalty on San Diego to give Saskatoon some hope late, but it wasn't enough as they were unable to close the gap with the score at 5-2 as time expired. 3 Stars 1 - Jean-Pierre Devote (SDM) (3G, 0A, 3P) 2 - Mikko Tuomala (SSK) (2G, 0A, 2P) 3 - Cardinal Copia (SDM) (1G, 0A, 1P)

1. Right now, I think the league is a bit hurt by some droughts in LA and in the VHLM in Halifax. I think it could hurt the league by making players more apprehensive of some places, but I actually think it helps. You wind up with dedicated guys like @SMYLS4 determined to help their team eventually win their first Cup, and on the flip side, I feel the same way about LA. I feel like with the phenomenal draft class they've had and the success we will have in the near future, that drought could come to an end soon. 2. I'm not sure if one exists or not, but I could absolutely see a baseball sim league being extremely popular. Baseball is as pure of a numbers game as you can get, and I think hardcore baseball fans (even more so than myself) would probably thrive on that. 3. At the moment, being just a prospect and a kind of underperforming VHLM player, probably would only devalue the paper they're printed on, BUT there could be a time where they could do fairly well at a VHLM Charity Auction. It could be something the league could consider. Sell a rookie card for any of @Beketov's players at the charity auction and it could maybe do some numbers. Ask 3: 1. Has your pick for the Continental Cup changed since the start of the season? Why 2. If you could expand to any cities in the VHL and/or VHLM, what cities would they be? 3. What's your outlook for your player for the rest of the season?

Within a few seasons we will be the best pairing in the VHL by far. S97 LA Stars will go down as one of the best draft classes in VHL history.

Game 22 Recap San Diego Marlins @ Saskatoon Wild This game was a pure defense and goaltending matchup between San Diego's Ricky Lafleur and Saskatoon's Toby Bob. Each goaltender made 21 saves in standout performances in net. It wasn't until 0:49 in the second period that one goal from San Diego Forward and S97 VHLM draft pick Joseph Poole slipped past Bob, assisted by Cardinal Copia and Dustin Moore at even strength. This game marks the 5th of the season for San Diego, who now find themselves at 3-2, with Saskatoon off to a slow start at 0-4, with 0 goals in their last 3 games. Final: San Diego 1 - Saskatoon - 0 Player of the Game - This is an easy selection for player of the game in this one, with another shutout win from San Diego goaltender Ricky Lafleur. Lafleur finishes this game with his second consecutive shutout, now having only given up one goal in his last three contests.

1. I think you could make it advantageous by providing a morale boost for the team if there's a player with a certain level of checking and fighting, but I don't know how it could really be worked out well enough for it to be worth it. 2. It would be cool to see those trophies for WC/WJC. Pro-Am is generally thought to be exhibition in most contexts, so I'm not sure it makes sense there, but definitely for the international tournaments. 3. It's really tough because there's already so much that currently exists. The best I could think off is to bring back the Grimm Jonsson. Questions: 1. Who do you think is most likely to solidify their spot in the HOF in S97? 2. What are your hopes for your team and player this season? 3. Which rebuilding team do you think is in the best position to complete their rebuild strong and ready to win?

Day 4. Let's go.
-
1. I was completely shocked to go #1 overall, but I'm excited about it. It's interesting to try to figure out who the contenders will be after the draft, because so many teams are headed so many different directions, but I think the two teams who missed the playoffs will be teams to watch out for in S97. 2. Yes, because I've tried to get a machine in the gym in the beginning of January and it's a nightmare, but it doesn't seem to stick for most people. 3. I probably have a really weird knowledge of history and geography. Probably normal male hobbies, but it's excessive. ----Questions---- 1. How do you think the S97 VHL draft will impact the future of the league? 2. What are you most excited about for your team after the draft? 3. What are your plans for Christmas/New Year?
-
1. Lucy did an excellent job setting the team up for the future and was able to build an incredible culture, helping players to max out TPE earnings and make the team the fastest growing group in the VHLM. 2. Yes! Waiting to be drafted in the pro-Am and hoping to apply for WJC and the Jr. Showcase soon. 3. Impressing - Matvei Michkov - biased answer but he's even better than I expected him to be as a rookie and easily winning the Calder. Disappointing - Brad Marchand - he just does not look the same now and you have to wonder if age is catching up to him. 4. Nordiques. I own too much Nordiques gear as it is, but Québec needs a team. 5. Herr's Old Bay Chips. 10/10 and a good go-to with a hoagie. 6. Honestly, just taking some time off and spending it with friends and family. That and not having to make a commute for a few weeks.

Awesome draft perspective from a VHL GM. I should probably mention though that @SMYLS4 and I are not packed players the way the LaFleurs are, though we may be better in the same spot because of the podcast and segments.

1. The highlight of the season for me was making it to the playoffs. It was nice to score some goals early on, though that tapered off significantly, but ultimately getting in was what I wanted. 2. I would say so. I nearly maxed out on TPE I could have earned and made myself a top 2 prospect in the VHLM draft and possibly a first round pick in the VHL draft. 3. I think I need to improve my game offensively a little bit, and figure out how to take fewer penalties. Thankfully, I have a re-roll this offseason, so I can reallocate a bit to become more effective. 4. Mississauga. Going into the playoffs I had a feeling that whoever won Philadelphia vs. Mississauga would win, and it seems that will happen. 5. Christmas Vacation is a classic you can't ever count out, but I'd also same Home Alone 1 & 2 are definitely up there for me as well. 6. I think I could help a little bit with bushcraft - building shelter, or traps for hunting, possibly even spear tips as well. It also depends what tools we have available.

Do you watch Alone? That's the one I've been binging lately.
-
1. I don't want to say too much, but this series is just as competitive as we had predicted on the podcast. We're obviously in a decent position, but can't take anything for granted. 2. It depends on if it's for a short period of time, like a day or if it's forever. If it's a short period of time, I'll go with a crow, because they're intelligent and the overhead view from flying would be incredible. If it's forever, I'd probably pick a gorilla, so I could retain something closer to my humanity. 3. 7PM. Game start time, I'm home from work, and there's still time left in the day. 4. It already exists. It's a cheesesteak wiz without from Dalessandro's Steaks in Roxborough in Philadelphia. 5. Naked and Afraid XL. I'm addicted to survival content, especially with a group dynamic. 6. There's really not much to pick from, because Winter is miserable, so I would have to just say Christmas is in the beginning of Winter.
-
1. My favorite part is getting an extra stake in other games I may not care as much about while competing a bit with friends. It adds an extra layer to watch for around the sport. 2. Not creative at all, but the classic Red Wings jersey that has stretched across so many eras. It's just a timepiece at this point. 3. Chick-Fil-A NUFD. 4. I had a former employer reach out to me for the 4th time to take a massive pay cut and come back. I quickly rejected that one. 5. The Flyers are absolutely terrible. John Tortorella is a bad head coach for this team and is mismanaging the youth to a point that jeopardizes the entire future of the franchise. 6. Right now, I have Dallas over the Rangers in 6. As good as Winnipeg looks, they'll always find a way to disappoint and I think the Stars' playoff experience will matter in the end.

1. If I got 100 TPE, much of it would go into DC/PC straight away to get my DF to a little bit above 70. After that, I'd put a lot into SH to try to get PH/SK up to into the mid-60s as soon as possible. I'm not sure if I would have anything left over after that, but if I did, I would have to discuss with management how to allocate thereafter. 2. I would like it to be the Briere swipe celebration, but in real life, my hands just go straight up instinctively. It's boring but it's real. 3. Rising. Mikko's TPE is skyrocketing really quickly and I think it's being allocated to the right places. 4. Not new, but I've started watching Alone. I'm not much into fiction really at all, but I could watch survival content all day every day. 5. First thing I need to know is if it's taxed or untaxed. Either way, first thing I'm doing is paying off my truck and student loans, and then the rest is going into buying a house. 6. This is very easy to answer from Southeastern Pennsylvania. It's Scrapple and it's not close. Our 3rd breakfast meat option, I would urge you to try it before you find out what's in it.

This was a really good read and an excellent way to showcase your creative side. It was perfect to include some of the Halifax 21st players in this as well. It does make me wonder how Boris Bone-Breaker may have acted in this “hostage” situation, though a player of that type may have put a bit too much muscle into the situation. I just wish I wasn't left with the suspense. What actually happened? Was it real or a dream? If it was real, how did Lauren get the pictures from the trip? Did Bolivar take her to his home country as part of this plot?

Through the first 26 games of the season, the Ottawa Lynx looked unstoppable, holding a commanding lead over Philadelphia for the top spot in the VHLM. This lead started to show cracks after Ottawa ended an eight game winning streak and Philadelphia began to close the gap. The once double digit lead was down to five by the 30 game mark. Since then, the Philadelphia Reapers have been completely unstoppable. They now hold a commanding nine point lead over Halifax for the top spot in both the Eastern Conference and the VHLM as a whole. Over their last 20 games, Philadelphia has an astounding record of 15-2-3. Their slow start to the season has been completely brushed aside. After several incredibly high scoring games, the Reapers now have an easy league lead in goal differential, standing at +59 so far this season. While there's never a guarantee for any team to win it, they're inching closer to the playoffs as clear Founder’s Cup favorites in a top heavy league, where the top four teams are all Eastern Conference rivals.

How much of the point task should be centered around lore? Just asking because when @SMYLS4 and I do our podcast tonight, we're just trying to figure out if we should keep doing our regular segments with another segment mixed in, if it should be 100% focused on lore, or if we can incorporate lore into our regular segments.
-
1. It's excellent. It gives us a chance to win every night and if we can sneak into the playoffs, we should be able to do damage. 2. The East is extremely close. If we all put in the work and continue to improve DF, we can finish #2 or 3 in the conference. 3. You said it in the first question. Goaltending. But lately we've also significantly improved our defense. We face lower shot volumes in our games compared to early in the season and we're giving our goaltenders a chance now. 4. I have brick hands, so for me, just get a shot off when they're least expecting it and hope it goes in. 5. Ritualistic stick taping the same way before every game. It's the only way. 6. When I was a kid, it was always SweeTarts (weird, I know), but as an adult, it has to be Reese's. You just can't beat them.

The Ottawa Lynx recently ended an eight game win streak after dominating the VHLM through the first 26 games of the season. The eight game win streak ended with a 1-0 loss to their Eastern Conference rival Philadelphia Reapers to begin a four game losing streak. During this stretch, Ottawa has scored only 3 goals, being shut out twice, but were able to pick up a point in a shootout loss to Miami. Ottawa leads the VHLM this season with a five point lead over Philadelphia, who have won their last five games after their 2-1 loss to Ottawa in game 123. Philadelphia has outscored their opponents 17-3 in their five game stretch, displaying total domination in that stretch. While Ottawa still has firm control over the Eastern Conference right now, the race looks far more interesting than it did just two days ago with 42 games left to play. The 22-6-2 Lynx hope to snap their streak when they play Saskatoon in their next matchup. Ottawa enters this matchup with a 5-0-1 record so far against Saskatoon, outscoring them 21-5 in their matchups so far this season, with their sole loss coming via shootout in a defensive game where both teams were held scoreless.
