  1. The VHL minors draft is soon upon us! With that, I wanted to take a look at the top five earners of the S99 class. Interestingly, all of these earners are defensive, with four blueliners and a netminder in the top five. 1. D - Titus Cunningham (@thadthrasher). Former Marauder Titus clocks in at a whopping 179 TPE, tops of the S99 class at the moment. With a more balanced defensive build, expect to see the American Titus playing an important role on the power play for some blue line for a couple of seasons. 2. D - Krister Von Casar Tzesar (@comrade cat). True free agent, 6'8"-240 lb KvCT is a true bruiser, with 160 TPE and 50 of those going straight into body checking. The man wants to mash---can't really argue with that (and to be fair, if you did argue with that, you might get mashed) 3. G - Yor Bjorven (@Rin). Initial results in a small sample size in Mississauga for the Icelandic Bjorven indicated some growing pains for the 6'3"-238 lb netminder, but 159 TPA will get Yor going as the goalie for a needy minors team for a couple of seasons. 4. D - Additional Pylons (@courtjestr19). Also a former Marauder, Finnish AdPy only "played" (i.e. spectated) in a couple of games in Miami down the stretch. 154 TPE (after this article, lol) represents perhaps the last of the maxed earners and profiles more as a defensive defender. 5. D - David David (@Knight). Another hulking defender, UK-based double-David is a physical defender who put in some time in Mexico City as a third-line menace last season. With 123 TPE and some points into both poke and body checking, we may see D2 both squashing offensive players on the boards and fellow defenders on the offensive side of the puck. Good luck to all in the VHLM Draft! WC: 309
  2. 1. Heck yeah I am. Additional Pylons is goofing around like an absolute igneous in the 3rd line of the Pompeii Sour Grapes. So far we're kicking around in 2nd at 11-7-2, which is pretty respectable after the first sim had us much less competitive. 2. I'm not sure it will, because I think there's more about the political climate that made the game charged than usual. For those of us who already like hockey, the skill of the games in the tourney were all quite high and the play was definitely enjoyable. For the average fan, I'm not sure the appreciation will linger. 3. Lol, let the gloves come off more? Hey man, I loved my chippy Isles 3rd line featuring Cal Clutterbuck and Matt Martin as much as anyone, but I'm not really sure adding more fighting is the answer for viewership. Tbf, I love seeing fights happen live. I just also did my PhD in literally the mechanics of traumatic brain injury so... I feel conflicted, lol. 4. Oh hell yeah. Additional Pylons wants to get some use out of his 6'7"-250lb frame. Gloves off, let's go. 5. YES that'd be awesome. Looking through some box scores before it seemed like lots of fights were draws, so seeing some won fights should definitely give a morale boost. That's a great idea! 6. Nice! My 6yo has really enjoyed the first two also. I'm a Gryffindor for sure, though Ravenclaw would have called also. I like to say I have a healthy degree of irreverence for the rules (I'm more of a neutral good than a lawful one).

  10. The S97 ProAm is happening! The five teams this tourney are the Baie-Comeau Beavers, the Winnipeg Wheelbarrows, the Flora Vista Foxes, the Pompeii Sour Grapes, and the Hartford Whalers. Looking at the spreadsheet, it seems as though there are a total of 66 current and former players who have entered the tournament. With a total of 5 teams and a breakdown of 8 goalies, 25 blueliners, and the 33 forwards, this puts each team on pace to get something like 6 forwards, 5 defensemen, and a netminder or two, each. The wild part of this tournament seems to be the wide range of TPE per player. For example—the available goalies include Lachlan Summers with his cool 1829 TPE. The next highest is Ash Sparks coming in at 1386 TPE. It may be tempting to look at the range of TPE for the defensemen, but it's better to not think about the guys below 100 TPE (like yours truly, though this article does, in fact, bring me closer to that margin) who are going to get run all over by pro-caliber skaters. All in all though, the draft is shaping up to be fun already and it ought to be a highly entertaining simulation! WC: 204
