How does this work financially? Warsaw doesn't need to retain any of Gino's salary?

 

EDIT: Just did some math, and even so, this doesn't seem to work if the rules and rosters are up to date! Perhaps there's a second trade coming soon?

Because the league has passed game 346, both teams must pay 60% of the salary of the players they are receiving. Where you may be getting mixed up is that Warsaw shows as having 0 cap space on the portal, there is also a rule that backup goalies don't count against a team's cap if they are making up to $2 million so we had $2 mil more in space than what the portal shows.

You're right, Warsaw is $200k above the cap with this trade

 

Backup goalie = $2M Cap space
Warsaw retains $800k on Gino, so gain $1.2M for $3.2M
Hylands costs $3M

I was unaware of the backup goalie rule!

 

Out of curiousity, suppose you had an active sub $2M backup goalie, but you still played them in 50% of the games because you’re a nice GM. Do they still technically count as a backup?

it's 2nd goalie, so you could technically play them 64 games even if they're the "cheaper" option
