The Trade

To Malmo- Muffbeav

To Warsaw- 1st round pick (Tynan Sylvester), 2nd round pick (Bogdan Trunov)

I was somewhat shocked at this trade at first glance, and who wouldn't be. A rebuilding team moving picks to a cup contender for a player more in the now? How on earth did both teams say yes? Well, I'm going to break down the trade to the best of my ability, and tell you why both teams win this deal in the end. On Warsaw's side, you can clearly see they have everyone signed for S78 with nothing more then just a quarter of a million dollars left to spend, meaning that someone had to go, and that someone ended up being Muffbeav.

Warsaw didn't really have any other option in terms of a quick and easy switch up while staying contenders. Another roster player back just wasn't an option no matter what his salary would've been. Getting back some quality prospects for a quality player really was the best choice, rather then losing Muff for nothing back. Sylvester is a solid young D man who comes close to maxing tpe out nearly every week. Sylvester picked up 13 points in his rookie season on the blue line in the VHLM. If he plays the right way this year, he could break open a spot on the roster for Warsaw as early as next offseason. Bogdan Trunov has been picking up his TPE game a lot as of late. He had 20 points last year, and is in the same boat as Sylvester as to when he could make his first VHL appearance.

Now onto the Malmo side of things. your probably thinking, okay, Warsaw has themselves set now, how does this make sense for Malmo? Let me tell you. Malmo's rebuild didn't really get to "full on rebuild mode" until the S77 draft when they picked up Deathwalker and Telker. If Malmo they were to stay the course, not go for big players, and essentially draft with all of their draft picks plus some others, Telker and Deathwalker might not see a winning team until maybe over halfway through their careers. I see this as a right time to decide to speed up the rebuild.  Muffbeav is still a younger roster player with plenty of life left to grow with the team. This should also take a lot of the pressure off Deathwalker and Telker.

In terms of shear value on both sides, I think its a pretty even trade as well. So what is the next step for Malmo to getting back to winning ways? The first thing is time. This season needs to be played before Malmo reassess their playing cards come the TDL and next offseason. I think it's safe to say the vast majority of the selling in Malmo is over now. Eyes will be on them come next years draft with only 5 picks right now, but 3 of those are 1st's. I wouldn't be shocked at all if they moved a pick or prospect or two to make the same type of deal next year as the one I just talked about above.

Review:

I love your breakdown of the trade. Some great information on why this trade happened and how it could help both teams. I like the color coded title and structure of that. Great pacing and length. The only thing I would add is a picture, would make it just that much better. Well written article and it was fun to read!
