In case you didn't know, the Oklahoma panhandle actually exists because Texas gave the land to them. There were laws prohibiting slavery north of a certain parallel, and instead of not enslaving human beings, Texas decided to forfeit land. Incidentally it was Mexico's move to illegalize slavery that led to Texas leaving Mexico in the first place.
