Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 Rafter wins a face-off against Berger and gets the shot off. Save by Shaw. Smalling on the rebound!!!! Save by Shaw. Smalling, SECOND TRY!! SAVE. BY. SHAW. New Kids want to beat the man who for some reason has the top goalie award named after him. Oh, it's because he is GOAT. That doesn't stop Reikkinen from trying but his shot is blocked by Schultz. He gets rid off the puck and the Old Club is on its way! Singh to Gerrard, to Chouinard, He SHOOTS! Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 HE SCORES!!!! Oh my days I thought I would die of old age before I saw another goal! Mathias Chouinard, the unlikely hero puts the Old Boys Club ahead! 1. Old Boys Club (S18) , Mathias Chouinard 1 (Phil Gerrard, Japinder Singh) at 19:46 And that's the end of the period as Reikkinen has another futile attempt to beat Aidan Shaw. Not this game mister. Shaw leaves the goal as empty as he found it, as despite shots 13-8 in favour of The New Kids... It's Aidan Shaw 1, New Kids 0. Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 The legendary Daisuke Kanou and the generally reliable CAL G are in net for period numero dos, as we look to move on from the Aidan Shaw Show to what we really want: an orgy of goals. The increasingly hungry LEEEEEEEEEROOOOOOY JEEEEENKIIIIIIINS kicks us off with a face-off win against Lars Berger. Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 The Old Boys Club is clearly on a high, now a win up in the series and goal up this game. Anton Brekker takes a shot and CAL G can't control it! Out to Saeijs! Lucky break as he shoots wide of the post. Singh recovers the puck and shoots! Not a renowned scorer and you can tell by that woeful miss. Back to the blue line for Adam Schultz, he SHOOTS! Chershenko gets a skate in the way so it flies into CAL G. No time to say thank you though as Phil Gerrard is hunting nearby! Quick shot! Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 CAL G proves his worth with a fine glove save. Gerrard quickly wins the face-off and lays it off to Saeijs. As Saeijs shoots, Gerrard hustles in front of the goal! CAL G is on top of his game and is unperturbed. The pressure just doesn't lay off though as goal-scorer Chouinard shoots now! He's back on form with a miss. Saeijs follows up and it's wide again! Might have been deflected by the bodies in front. Gerrard now with one of his famous wristers!!! Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 CAL G is a man! Good start by Labatte's deputy. Berger avenges his earlier face-off loss to Chershenko but the real action is to his left as Jarvis Baldwin and Jukka Hakkinen have dropped the gloves! Hakkinen is not a renowned fighter and there's your proof as Baldwin's pure strength beats him into a pulp. Quick and straightforward, perhaps Baldwin's victory is what the New Kids needed. No immediate impact though as Berger still wins the face-off against Chershenko. Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 And no visible impact after that either as Bunclewirth's pass to Fowler results in a quick shot just wide of the net. New Kids hanging by a thread as James Bencharski steps up now but his shot is blocked by Chershenko. Cam Fowler, of Game 1 fame, misses again, gets the puck back, SHOOTS! Great save by CAL G! The Aidan Shaw of the period number two? Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/12446-game-2-s40-hof-tournament/page/2/#findComment-124680 Share on other sites
Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 Very possibly so! That was lightning quick as Berger wins the draw against Phil Rafter, passes to his teammate Phil Gerrard, who shoots and G does very well to keep it out. CAL G is keeping The New Kids alive here, will Old Boys Club come to rue these missed chances? Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 Just past two minutes into the period, New Kids want to get some rhythm going but Smalling's pass is intercepted by Brekker. Brekker to Berger, back to Brekker, set up beautifully! Oh what a terrible effort by Brekker as CAL G smothers.... No wait, he lets the puck slip! Berger pounces on the rebound, gaping net!!! Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 HOW DID HE MISS?! HOW CAN YOU MISS FROM THERE? Absolutely horrific from Berger, game-tying hero from Game 1 but here he missed a chance to put the Old Boys up by two goals. Schultz tries to restore world order but CAL G is back in position and stops his shot from the point. That Berger miss doesn't affect the Old Boys Club as they keep turning the screw on The New Kids. Bencarski's shot is deflected by Chouinard who wants his second but CAL G is there. Has anyone else turned up for the second period for The New Kids? Admin Victor 11,009 Posted September 23, 2014 Author Admin Share Posted September 23, 2014 Eh, fuck it, won't finish in time for the draft anyway. We shall decide if PBPs are worthwhile for the rest of the series later. I made it to the end of the second period in preparation. ----------------------------------- Top line back in business for the New Kids, surely time to turn things around. Reikkinen, so many times denied by Shaw, is on the move. He passes to Jenkins, back to Reikkinen... SHOT BY REIKKINEN... Kanou is still awake at his end and stops the shot. ---------- Four minutes into the period, that early domination from Old Boys seems to have fizzled out. But here's Berger on the move! Looking to make amends, he SHOOTS! It's just not Lars' day today. CAL G watches the puck fly past his net and remains unscathed. Back the other way come The New Kids. Koradek shoots! Blocked by Bencharski. Jenkins picks it up! Kanou gets a leg out to push it aside. Jenkins again! Deflected by Reikkinen! ---------- and out of play. That brief moment of respite is all The New Kids will get, as the Old Club looks much fresher at the moment. Phil Gerrard is hit by Braxton but thinks nothing of it and gives the puck to Chouinard. Chouinard passes to Saeijs, who finds the on-rushing Gerrard... Gerrard shoots! CAL G with the save. Gerrard picks it up, tries again! Saeijs deflects it! Wide and out of play. ---------- Back and forth stuff here as Alexander Chershenko comes flying in with a shot which is turned aside by Daisuke Kanou. Quick change and it's Phil Rafter who takes a shot at beating Kanou... no success again. It's the other Phil, of the Gerrard variety, who has the best chance of his exchange and he fires one! ---------- CAL G stops, controls, and springs an attack in response. Braxton to Rybak, he passes to Chershenko... Move broken down by Gerrard. Sullivan retrieves the puck though... and his pass is intercepted by Singh. Singh tries to set up his teammates but Phil Rafter intercepts. He finally gets a pass through to Rybak, who SHOOTS! Kanou with the save! Back to the blue line where Braxton shoots! Indomitable Kanou is indomitable. ---------- It's all about the goalies in these late stages of the second period as Brekker is now denied by CAL G. Both he and Kanou are on par with Shaw at the moment. Japinder Singh takes out his rage at the low-scoring affair on poor Unknown Player, knocking him out and stealing the puck. Poor guy. Fortunately, he has about 15 identical replacements on the ready. ---------- Tukka Reikkinen looks to take matters into his own hands as he speeds into the attacking zone and FIRES one at Kanou! Kanou can't control the puck, Reikkinen places the rebound perfectly! ---------- NO, MILLIMETRES OFF! Just a bit to the left and it would have been a goal but he HIT THE POST! Must have run out of luck with two short-handed goals in Game 1. To make matters worse, an Unknown Player proceeds to to fire wide of the net. Perhaps that is Don Draper in disguise? Daniel Braxton is on board to make amends however, but his shot is blocked by Singh! Loose puck bounces to Reikkinen, he shoots! ---------- HE SCORES! Unbelieable, fourth goal in two games for Tukka Reikkinen as The New Kids finally find a way past the Shaw/Kanou duopoly. Game on! 2. The New Kids (Post-S18) , Tukka Reikkinen 1 (Daniel Braxton, Unknown Player) at 18:15 ---------- Momentum is sky-high for the New Kids. Chershenko wins the face-off and sets Rybak off on his way. His shot, deflected by Baldwin... over the net and into the netting. Strauss wins the next face-off with Chershenko kicked out and after quick passes with Fowler and Bunclewirth he is on his way right through Higgins and Clark Marcellin. He winds up, takes the shot! Better options were probably available as CAL G gladly holds on. ---------- Leeroy Jenkins wins the ensuing face-off, but can't get much going as he is taken out by Jukka Hakkinen! That one has an unexpected mean streak. Jenkins battles to keep possession and dumps the puck into the attacking zone while on the ground. Reikkinen picks it up, goes for glory again! WIDE! But Koradek scores on the wrap-around! Oh my, big comeback here. Reikkinen keeps on going and Koradek gladly takes the plaudits. 3. The New Kids (Post-S18) , Pavel Koradek 1 (Tukka Reikkinen) at 18:56 ---------- Koradek wants to add to the new-found advantage but Kanou saves and the final score for the second period is 2-1 for The New Kids. Again, the better team lost this period as now 14-11 were the shots in favour of Old Boys Club. CAL G saw one more goal scored by his forwards than Shaw, with Tukka Reikkinen the new star of this game. Twenty minutes of regulation time left. ---------- 4. The New Kids (Post-S18) , Tukka Reikkinen 2 (Pavel Koradek, Leeroy Jenkins) at 6:13 5. The New Kids (Post-S18) , Volodymyr Rybak 1 (Mitch Higgins) at 9:15 6. Old Boys Club (S18) , Jardy Bunclewirth 1 (Markus Strauss, Adam Schultz) at 10:50 7. Old Boys Club (S18) , Tarik Saeijs 1 (Mathias Chouinard, Adam Schultz) at 18:39 8. The New Kids (Post-S18) , Alexander Chershenko 1 (Volodymyr Rybak) at 19:27 (Empty Net) Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/12446-game-2-s40-hof-tournament/page/2/#findComment-124711 Share on other sites
