Three games in the Renaissance Cup final have been played and we will jump right into the summaries.

3-6

Vasteras immediately loses their home ice advantage in a 6-3 loss to Istanbul. The Red Wolves scored two goals in the first period against Puk's power play goal. The second frame saw a single Turkish goal before the teams headed into the final period. The final period was a roller coaster with Istanbul first increasing their lead by one with a power play marker, which was negated by Young's goal. The Wolves responded with two back to back goals before Puk netted for the final score. Busser (2g/2a), Hoodie (2g/1a) and Marconi (2g/1a) were named three stars. Jute (.854) was clearly inferior to Murdock (.923) and was not able to help his team win the match. Vasteras' power play was lacking (1/9) and the penalty kill was not helping either (1/2).

Marcel was credited with 0g, 1a and +1.

4-5 (OT)

Istanbul was able to win at home by the smalles margin in a 5-4 OT win. Vasteras scored a brace in short succession by Cat and Puk, before Istanbul tied the game with two markers within two minutes. The Iron Eagles, not to be outdone, scored the period winner with Love's first post season goal in this campaign. In the second frame, it was Young who doubled the lead with a power play goal. Istanbul equalized the score with a very early power play goal and a very late even strength marker. Sudded death it was. Former Hound Bond delivered the dagger on another power play. Jute (.868) was again not able to steal the game for his team against a solid, but by no means stellar Murdock (.909). The three stars went to Busser (1g/3a), AL (1g/2a) and Hoodie (0g/3a). Vasteras' power play was sub par (1/6) and so was their boxplay (4/6). In such tight games, the special teams can be the tip on the scale and they were in this match as the game winner and one of the goals leading to the equalizer were scored on the man advantage.

Marcel had 0g, 0a, +0, 2 PIM (Hooking, no effect on the score), 1 hit and 5sb to his name.

0-2

After having lost two games in a row, Vasteras was out for blood and they got it in a 2-0 victory. Especially Jute was seeking for redemption as his saving rate left much to be desired. Live with a power play marker and Coaster sealed the deal for the Swedes. Both premiered in the post season with their respective markers and for the latter it was even the first goal of the season. The jury named Jute (19 saves), Live (1g/0a) and Coaster (1g/0a) for the post match honours. Obviously Jute was the hero with his shutout against a strong Murdock (.943). Vasteras' power play has still  room for improvement (1/7) whereas the penalty kill was not even asked to show up as the disciplined Iron Eagles did not take any penalties.

Marcel logged 0g, 1a and +1 for his colours.

The young Swiss defender shows the following stats for the post season:

7gp, 0g, 4a, 4pts, +5, 2 PIM, 7 hits, 20 sb

While Marcel is not dazzling the viewers with points, he is amongst the top ten for +/- and shots blocked (both good for 6th of the league) and has only served two minutes in the sin bin (and such penalty was not converted). It is safe to say, that the Swiss back does the small things right and focuses on keeping the puck out of the danger zone. He does so with brain rather than brawn, evidenced by the few penalties he has taken sofar.

Keep tuned for further updates.
