jRuutu 2,464
Does a baker celebrate when they open the oven door? Does the police officer celebrate when they give a ticket to a driver who failed to follow the rules? Does a teacher celebrate when they are done moaning about how hard their job is? The answer is more than likely not. The same can be said about Prague winning Warsaw. Business as usual for many in Prague. I would be lying if I said that we were anxious or nervous when the series was 3-1 for Warsaw. I would be lying if I said that it was a surprise that Prague won Warsaw. However, I am not lying when I say: you are welcome, Warsaw. You are welcome, Warsaw, you got to compete against a superior opponent and you did your best. What Warsaw has shown to VHL, and to the whole world is that no matter how much better the opposition is, no matter how high the mountain is in front of you, no matter how unlikely it is that you win, what matters is that you try. You might not always win, you might not win even half of the time, but when you keep on trying - you will get that much closer to the top. Warsaw showed remarkable spirit in this series. They managed to lead the series 3-1 at one point. Did they get carried away? Did they think the series is as good as over? No. Warsaw knew they were touched by the lady luck. Warsaw knew there is virtually no chance anyone can be that lucky for that long. Warsaw staff, players, and fans knew their odds are against them when they were up 3-1. But still, they kept going. They did not stop trying. Game after game, they lost, as everybody expected. Did they stop trying? No. They kept going. Eventually, the series was tied at 3-3. A huge sign of relief was heard coming from the Warsaw camp: "now we have a chance again, it's even". How did game seven end? Prague was better on the scoreboard maybe, but the real winner was Warsaw. Warsaw showed everybody what it means to compete and to try. I think I speak for everybody in VHL when I say: thank you, Warsaw. Nobody gave you chance before the series, nobody gave you a chance when you were leading 3-1, nobody gave you a chance when the series was tied 3-3, but still, you showed up and tried your best. There is a lot we can all learn from that. Sure, it might not make Warsaw camp feel that much better now, but I reckon this series will be the real reason why we will see Warsaw do well in the upcoming seasons. So many new lessons were learned, Warsaw players got to play against bigger, faster, and just better players. They will train even harder during the upcoming off-season, Warsaw team and the players will be a dangerous group in the future. In the middle of all this, I don't want to forget Prague. How do you think Prague staff, players, and fans feel right now? We were always going to win. We were the heavy favorites. We are forever known as the team that beat an underdog team. That kind of stigma and the mental burden will be hard to knock off your shoulders. I think the next round will be a real test for Prague. Not because we play another underdog team, but because we have to try and motivate ourselves. That is a lot easier said than done.
