Frank 5,259
The Vancouver Wolves haven't had a jersey retirement in quite some time. The last jersey retired was that of Rauno Palo @jRuutu. After reviewing the history of the Wolves and even their time as the Quebec City Meute franchise I noticed a few glaring omissions that had yet to be retired. That's why the Wolves will be announcing two jersey retirements today and in my opinion a long time over due. These two players stood out in their time in both Vancouver and Quebec and have earned the right to have their numbers cemented in history. The first jersey being raised to the rafters is of a player who stole games for Quebec during the 50s. They have some of the strongest goaltending performances in VHL history and back stopped the Quebec City Meute to their final cup win in Season 56. A member of the HOF and was ranked 49th in VSN's Top 75 Player's of All-time. Congrats Apollo Skye @Velevra! Apollo Skye played for Quebec from Season 53 to 58. Skye was acquired via trade from the HC Davos Dynamo. From Season 54-57 Skye back stopped one of six teams to ever make four continental cup finals appearances in a row. Skye posted a career 2.37 GAA and .926 save percentage. Arguably considered one of the top goaltenders in VHL history, where his most notable moments came as a Quebec City Meute. Career Accolades: S51 Christian Stolzschweiger Trophy (Top Rookie) S53 Scotty Campbell Trophy (MVP) S53 Dustin Funk Trophy (Most Improved) S56 Continental Cup (League Championship) S57 Scotty Campbell Trophy (MVP) S57 Aidan Shaw Trophy (Top Goalie) The second player being announced today was one of the most prolific point getters in Wolves history. Posting four 100 point seasons, two of which were 120 points. Drafted 13th overall by Vancouver in Season 72 this player would go on to play 432 games for Vancouver. In those 432 games they put up 543 points. Congrats Andrew Su @Da_Berr! Andrew Su played for Vancouver from Season 72 to 77. Su would help Vancouver capture their second Continental Cup in Season 74. The two-time Scotty Campbell trophy winner is widely regarded as one of the greatest Wolves forwards of all-time. The individual success along with helping the team win a cup in his break-out season made this an easy decision to retire Su's jersey. Career Accolades: (S74) Continental Cup (VAN) (S76) Mike Szatkowski Trophy (VAN) (S76) Scotty Campbell Trophy (VAN) (S77) Brett Slobodzian Trophy (VAN) (S77) Alexander Beketov Trophy (VAN) (S77) Scotty Campbell Trophy (VAN) (S77) Mike Szatkowski Trophy (VAN) Congrats again you two!
