Our New York correspondent Dick Hammer had a chat with Callum after the 3-1 series defeat at the hands of the Toronto Legion. Here is what the Americans' alternate captain had to say.

DH: 'Hi Callum, thanks for meeting up with me.'

CGY: 'Hi Richard. Well, one could say I have more spare time at hand to give interviews and such.'

DH: 'Or golfing?'

CGY: 'Golfing is definitely not my sport. I have the hot take that golfing is a glorified walk in the park. I would rather be rock climbing, but since this is considered a risky pastime, my contract explicitely forbids me to engage in same. We'll see what I will pick up as an alternative. Rin introduced me into the art of Ikebana, but I fear I do not have the patience for it. But it is certainly nice to know more about arranging flowers and it is interesting to learn how much thought goes into it.'

DH: 'Do you have any thoughts on the Wild Card series loss for our readers or is it too soon?'

CGY: 'Nah, I am fine. Life is about learning and my dad told me that you learn more from defeats than from victories. I was going into the series with a feeling that we can do it. In the regular season we have won four of the six games against Toronto. I considered their offence superior to ours, but we had one of the best defences in the league. So the netminders would be tipping the scales. I thought with two recent Clegane winners in 36xW and Wallob we would have the edge. Alas, Castle let down the portcullis so to speak, and we showed the illness which plagued us all season: a lack of scoring.'

DH: 'Do you know about any changes planned to address this issue?'

CGY: 'That is not for me to say. However, we have the greatest NHL scorer of all time in our prospect system and if Wayne cannot solve our scoring problem, who can? We also know for certain that we will lose Ducky and Clue to Father Time, as they hang up their skates for good. I could profit a lot from Mal's experience and Rin, Tord and I will have to step up to compensate his loss.'

DH: 'On the other hand, the backend of New York's roster is young and has still a lot of untapped potential.'

CGY: 'I do not disagree with you. I think for a defence which consisted of 50% rookies, we held ourselves pretty well. But as you said there is loads of room for improvement and we are constantly working on it.'

DH: 'The Americans have only one pick in the oncoming draft, which is considered one of the deepest in recent years. Will that bite the franchise in the ass in the future?'

CGY: 'I do not think so. We have a first round pick and should be able to secure a valuable piece for our franchise. There are a lot of interesting players in this draft. My believe is, that the cap will correct any 'overdrafting'. Riga will pick three first rounders, Moscow and Davos two each. If these prospects pan out as expected, it will be difficult to hold on to every player due to cap restrictions. We will see what happens, but from the state it is now, we will need to get players from the FA market to replace our retiring players. If we decide to do so, that is.'

DH: 'Now to something off-season related: Will you participate in the ProAm Tournament again?'

CGY: 'Barring any injuries, I will certainly take this opportunities to meet with other hockey players from all walks of life. Whether they are just starting in the VHLM or are retired HOFer, I think I can learn from everyone something and I hope they can take a leave from my book in return.'

DH: 'Okay, that were all the questions for today, thanks Callum and have fun on the ProAM.'

CGY: 'You betcha, eh?'
