With Moscow's roster taken into consideration, it's the winger, Maverick Goncalves, who makes the most sense to go first overall. While his numbers don't seem impressive, it's worth noting that Goncalves spent Season 93 with the Cologne Express of the VHLE, playing against much tougher competition. That was only possible due to his fantastic work ethic, which allowed him to quickly adapt to the tougher play of the VHLE. Goncalves is a talented player offensively, elite already at handling the puck and gives full effort in both zones of the ice. He's everything you look for in a first overall pick, and it won't be long before Goncalves lives up to it. 2 Moscow Menace Jillian Woods @jacobcarson877 D TPE: 406 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 18 60 78 34 202 22 88 98 S93 Playoffs 16 5 10 15 -5 53 10 22 22 Jillian Woods has wasted no time making her mark in the VHLM, and even before her impressive season for the Ottawa Lynx, Woods has been considered an elite prospect. The Moscow Menace are incredibly fortunate to not only scoop up an incredible forward prospect in Maverick Goncalves, but the top defensive prospect as well. Despite her small stature, which does not lend itself to a physical game, her work ethic is nothing short of elite, and she possesses excellent instincts and skills with the puck. An agile skater who is seemingly in the right position on both ends of the ice, there is an excellent chance that Woods could find herself in the VHL right away with Moscow in need of a fourth defenseman and being right up against the cap. With her skills and work ethic, I am confident in saying that she is ready for the challenge and won't be a liability at all as a rookie for the Menace. 3 Riga Reign Felicia Hardy @JCarson D TPE: 353 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 68 18 54 72 0 213 48 114 114 S93 Playoffs 15 4 10 14 5 32 12 24 31 For the first time since Season 54, the Riga Reign have a new GM after the retirement of the legendary Benjamin Zeptenbergs. While it's daunting to follow in his footsteps, the new boss can start by addressing a weakness in their pipeline by adding an elite blueliner. At 6'8 and 250 pounds, Felicia Hardy does not bring the physical presence you would expect, but she is a masterful presence defensively. Her large frame and wingspan, combined with her exceptional positioning, make her a constant nuisance to opposing offenses, and while her own offensive abilities need refinement, she is still capable of chipping in on the attack as well. Another season of development will do her well, and Hardy will look to complete the second leg of the Triple Gold in the VHLE after winning the Founder's Cup with the Saskatoon Wild before joining Riga. 4 Vancouver Wolves Pierre Marc Bouchard @Gaikoku-hito C TPE: 346 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 31 42 73 35 262 32 106 14 S93 Playoffs 11 2 2 4 -2 28 6 34 3 After spending seven of nine seasons in Vancouver with their last player, Vancouver snatches up a familiar, and heavily-touted prospect in Bouchard. The last Bouchard won just about every award they were eligible for, and this time around are the first Center off the board, and the second Forward. They have proven immediately that they will be a strong scoring threat, and with a core that is all but secured on the defensive end with Calaway, Slater, Left Alone and Gavrilovs holding this fort in Vancouver, they'll turn their first of two early picks here towards a center, learning lots from The Frenchman, and slotting in nicely with players like Annie Oaks and Logan Ninefingers in the long term. 5 Vancouver Wolves Bollos de Trueno @Thunder D TPE: 328 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 15 50 65 13 181 54 120 89 S93 Playoffs 15 4 11 15 6 31 16 42 24 Following their first selection immediately comes another. And in that same vein, another user who has won just about everything under the sun, and is back to do some more of that there winning. Bollos de Trueno is a hard-hitting pick here at fifth overall, and could have, much like several other players on this list, been a consensus number one selection in other drafts. Strong scoring touch and massive physicality is what we should come to expect, and that's exactly what Vancouver will be looking for to replace the aging (and soon to finally be) Left Alone. That buys Vancouver several seasons of not having to think about defense, and that's a great feeling to have as a GM. Vancouver will be run from the back forward, and we should expect lots of offense driven from Bollos here through Pierre Marc. 6 HC Davos Dynamo Pombo @samx LW TPE: 331 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 51 51 102 34 417 26 86 29 S93 Playoffs 5 2 2 4 0 27 2 11 1 Sam is back, not currently injured, and ready to Pombo! Despite rumours on the street, Davos calls Sam's bluff here and selects Pombo, an offensive dynamo and a certified scorer. While Pombo may be unsure of their place in Davos after some ancient history between the agent and Inactivity, Davos puts their faith in Pombo, and in a draft with some huge implications as well. As Davos tries to finish their offense with Players like Forum Content, Grimgore Ironhide, and Antonia Bucatini making their Davos debuts this season, this group could be a dangerous one for a long time, and Davos will need that to get them over the hump and back into playoff action. This could be the best or worst pick in the draft, but that's an exciting place to be at sixth overall! 7 Helsinki Titans Soju G TPE: 317 Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA S93 Regular Season 72 30 30 12 0.911 2.64 5 193 2169 S93 Playoffs 5 1 4 0 0.935 2.81 0 14 217 Truly elite goaltenders are hard to come by, and Soju is projected to become just that. With Helsinki moving into a rebuild, there is no better piece for them to start out with than Soju. This past season Soju was spectacular as they finished 3rd in the VHLM in save percentage with a 0.911, and 8th in goals against average with a 2.64. All of the recent VHL champions have relied on goaltending, Soju will give Helsinki exactly that and could not be a better pick for their future. 8 Los Angeles Stars Andrew Skilton D TPE: 267 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 12 42 54 28 119 84 142 83 S93 Playoffs 11 2 10 12 8 23 8 38 14 Los Angeles traded down from 2nd overall, securing 8th overall as the highest selection in the package received in return. The Stars are in need of essentially anything and everything given how desolate their roster is. At 8th overall, we expect to see our first first-gen player coming off the board in Andrew Skilton. They are coming off a great season in the VHLM as they posted a very solid and respectable 54 points in 72 games played. Skilton does project as a top defensemen of the future as this draft's top first-gen player, and Los Angeles will be a great landing spot for them. 9 New York Americans Lazlo Holmes D TPE: 306 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 14 45 59 13 208 50 132 117 S93 Playoffs 15 4 11 15 4 28 10 21 22 The only reason Lazlo Holmes is going this late speaks to the depth of this draft, and New York stands to gain from exactly that! Getting Holmes at 9th overall is nothing shy of an absolute win for New York. Similarly to Moscow, New York is prepared to win now, and having a strong prospect defensemen will do a great wonder for their cap situation in the coming seasons. Holmes is coming off a solid VHLM season, with 59 points in 72 games, however Holmes really shined in the playoffs where they posted a point per game on route to a Founders Cup! 10 Prague Phantoms Erik Thorvaldsson @Tetricide D TPE: 275 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 14 40 54 -10 174 54 145 151 S93 Playoffs 5 2 1 3 -1 7 6 4 5 In most other draft classes, a player of Erik Thorvaldsson's caliber would likely be going significantly higher than just 10th overall, echoing the sentiments noted for a few players already in this draft. A deep defenseman class means that the Greenland native drops down to a familiar spot in Prague at 10th overall. Thorvaldsson has made a name for himself as a strong defensive defenseman, helping a middling Hounds roster scratch and claw their way into the S93 VHLM playoffs. Despite the defensive tendencies, Thorvaldsson has plenty of room to grow offensively as well, flashing his talents throughout the season. Prague could use help at any area of their roster, and in a deep defenseman class, it's easy to secure a somewhat rare talent early in the rebuild with future classes unknown. 11 Toronto Legion The Phantom of the VHL @Hogan C TPE: 323 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 34 37 71 40 366 68 151 16 S93 Playoffs 16 3 11 14 -1 73 0 34 5 In a bit of a surprising turn The Phantom of the VHL slips a bit lower than initially expected, landing with Toronto at 11th overall. The Phantom currently projects as the #7 overall prospect based on current skill evaluation, but with the run on defensemen, one of the top forward options slips a bit further down the board. Toronto would be pleased to select a center here, setting up a nice replacement plan for either Jimi Jaks or Mac Atlas - both of whom will be retiring by the end of S95. The Phantom displayed excellent improvement from his VHLM debut season, almost hitting a point per game pace with Ottawa and displaying a strong effort in the playoffs with 14 points in 16 games. Toronto is sure to be eyeing another near return to the Continental Cup finals, and they'd love to select a player who is already showing the ability to make it to the most important games of the year. 12 Los Angeles Stars Maple Dogwood @dogwoodmaple RW TPE: 289 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 35 50 85 41 385 56 141 14 S93 Playoffs 11 6 7 13 6 61 8 26 3 With their second pick out of their whopping three in the 1st round, the Stars are pleased to select Maple Dogwood, another forward who slips down the board a little bit due to the defensemen heavy top of the first round. Similar to The Phantom, Dogwood comes with championship pedigree with a Founder's Cup win with the Philadelphia Reapers during his debut VHLM season. On his first full VHLM season with Halifax, Dogwood posted a whopping 85 points in 72 games, showcasing both his goalscoring ability and playmaking skills throughout the season. Los Angeles will happily pick up a forward to pair with their prior defenseman selection, and should look to continue taking some of the best options on the board as they continue a crucial draft in their effort to rebuild their roster from the ground up. 13 Helsinki Titans Johnny Tsunami @Vice C TPE: 244 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 54 14 22 36 14 237 46 92 15 S93 Playoffs 12 9 7 16 8 36 6 17 2 After selecting their goaltender of the future and facing the start of a rebuild, the Titans take Tsunami. Johnny joined up with many of his fellow youths in Houston. He had a decent regular season for a late arrival but would go on to have one of best postseason out of anyone in the VHLM. His 16 playoffs points are the best out of all 1st rounders and are a major reason for the Bulls 12 game playoffs run. Being a two-way forward who can hit, and produce goals both on the power play and in critical moments are all reasons Helsinki select Johnny right here. 14 Los Angeles Stars Tommy Shelby @Will C TPE: 225 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 19 36 55 25 195 33 129 5 S93 Playoffs 11 2 5 7 9 36 2 31 0 With their third selection of the 1st round, The Stars selecte Tommy Shelby, another center who slips downs the draft board because of the early run on blueliners, like Maple Dogwood before him. The 22 year old Brit worked wonders behind Maple Dogwood in Halifax during his inaugural VHLM season, producing 36 assist as a 2nd line foward. Tommy has amazing vision for passes, seeing set up chances others miss. He is a fantastic foward to build a offensive around, which is exactly why the Stars selected Tommy as they rebuild their roster. 15 HC Davos Dynamo THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD @Royski G TPE: 200 Season GP W L OTL SV% SO GA SA MP S93 Regular Season 10 4 5 1 0.844 0 42 270 614 S93 Playoffs 3 1 2 0 0.94 1 5 84 179 "You can never have too much goaltending!" says GM Alex as he adds a fifth goaltending prospect in addition to his very young, very green VHL goaltender. With the other positions pretty well locked in for the near future, Davos takes a swing at really nailing down a goaltender. Whether that will end up being Slezak, Cavill, Goulet III, Kaskiniemi-Kekkonen, TypThond or THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD, they certainly hope it will be one of them. And if it is more than one of them, they can make back more than a fifteenth overall pick from them! THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD did not get much time to play in the VHLM last season, but has put up some respectable numbers in the Junior Showcase Tournament and has really taken some initiative in helping run his teams. THE MIGHTY ICE WIZARD has also undergone a recent rebranding, adopting a much more conventional style, which should lead to some more expected results. 16 Los Angeles Stars Wally Lose @youloser1337 LW TPE: 271 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 29 26 55 35 222 26 86 10 S93 Playoffs 16 4 4 8 -1 64 6 20 3 The 1st round ends with Los Angeles using their fourth selection of the round on Wally Lose. The 22 year old American started his career in Mexico City, producing 10 points in 20 games, then adding two more in 7 playoffs games. Next season, Wally was drafted to the Lynx where he would win a lot. He was one of the leaders of that Founder's Cup finalists team with a near even spread of assists and goals. It is this ability to produce a balanced offensive attack from the left wing is what the Stars need as they move on from a disastrous S93. They'll need a lot of firepower to get fans back in their seats, and Wally doesn't have much to Lose! 2ND ROUND 17 N/A Vacated Selection Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A S93 Playoffs N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A 18 HC Davos Dynamo Kevin Johnathen @meandyoc D TPE: 201 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 14 31 45 -19 136 94 218 122 S93 Playoffs N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A N/A 19 Malmo Nighthawks Matteo Stefano @mmrs617 RW TPE: 216 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 41 10 24 34 8 130 26 78 12 S93 Playoffs 5 2 4 6 -1 20 4 14 5 20 Los Angeles Stars Nikita Yolishev @Joel Main LW TPE: 215 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 20 31 51 -18 248 32 114 20 S93 Playoffs 5 1 2 3 -2 11 17 7 0 21 Calgary Wranglers Eugene Ryanheart @jesse115 LW TPE: 209 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 19 28 47 -17 284 20 102 19 S93 Playoffs 5 3 0 3 0 17 10 5 1 22 Moscow Menace Dorji Khan @Oddpurplefly LW TPE: 184 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 8 10 18 6 78 40 88 3 S93 Playoffs 11 0 3 3 1 16 2 12 2 23 Prague Phantoms Donald Carlson @AW13 D TPE: 185 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 20 41 61 12 135 58 110 116 S93 Playoffs 5 0 2 2 0 8 6 7 11 24 Helsinki Titans Toby Cook D TPE: 175 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 16 46 62 -16 151 112 154 142 S93 Playoffs 5 0 1 1 -4 5 6 8 6 25 Warsaw Predators Jon Webber III G TPE: 192 Season GP W L OTL SV% GAA SO GA SA S93 Regular Season 60 41 14 4 0.899 2.23 4 134 1330 S93 Playoffs 11 6 4 1 0.887 2.05 3 23 203 26 Prague Phantoms Sammie Kiefer LW TPE: 152 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 8 24 32 3 165 36 72 10 S93 Playoffs 16 5 3 8 -3 29 6 16 2 27 Toronto Legion Robin Sierra @ethanjaeda C TPE: 155 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 5 7 12 2 110 35 54 2 S93 Playoffs 11 2 2 4 3 23 0 6 0 28 Prague Phantoms Ty Duke @TheDuke C TPE: 152 Season GP G A P (+/-) SHT PIM HITS SB S93 Regular Season 72 8 6 14 -6 104 31 76 2 S93 Playoffs 11 0 2 2 1 7 0 9 0 29 D.C.
