A look at the New York Americans

Another week is coming to an end in the VHL and this season seems to be flying by. At the 20-game mark we see Chicago, Toronto, and Seattle hovering near the top of the North American conference and Riga, Moscow, and Malmo cruising in the European Conference.

Surprisingly, talented teams like Vancouver and New York have stumbled showing streaks of greatness but seem to be still figuring out some chemistry issues.  While the teams at the top are no surprise It does surprise (me) that New York and Vancouver haven’t been more consistent considering I picked them to be near the top of the league.

New York boasts a talented roster that combines both skill and grit on both offense and defense.  However, its New York’s back end that makes them so formidable. In 20 games they have only allowed in 43 goals (lowest in the league).  So Lets take a look at a few:

Callum Gary Yannick Janser @Daniel Janser.  An obvious choice for an elite caliber defenseman.  He brings a gritty two-way game that shows why NY took him first overall in S91. Point per game player that will get better as the season progresses. 2 fight wins as well.

Jebediah Big Ol Doinks in Amish @hylands - Power play specialist last year with 9 pp goals he compliments NY well offensively.  Also, at 509 240 lbs his tough to move and will stand in front of any puck to help his goalie.

WWWWWWWWWWWWW- @roryRory- Arguably the best goalie in the league he is 10-6 so far this year with a .938 Save percentage (good for #2 overall, with #1 being a player with only 1 game) and a 2.11 GAA.  The S92 Greg Clegane Trophy winner works hard every night to keep NY in the game.

On offense GM STZ @STZ has put together a solid lineup as well. Led by veteran right winger, FISTED ANALLY BY A CIRCUS MONKEY Analfist the former 50 goal scorer is off to a slow start with 15 points, but I anticipate that will improve shortly.  Yaroslav Trunov @qripll has been hot with 12 goals in 20 games and second year phenom and GREAT ONE, Wayne Gretzky @MubbleFubbles is set to improve on his last years numbers.  He has zero PIMs in 20 games as well so curious if he will be last year’s PIM number of 14.

And we can’t overlook NY’s most recent addition in Toby Kadachi @ROOKIE745.  This kid is an animal with 104 hits already and 88 PIM in 20 games.  Even more impressive is Kadachi already has 6 fights in 20 games with 2 wins.  I can’t wait to see Kadachi match up against PIM league leader, Tommy Sleeves in a showdown of fists.

Overall, I think that New York will turn it around and battle for a playoff spot in the North American Conference.  They will also probably be actively looking to add some pieces via trade, but I expect the pieces they have now will improve week to week with TPE and turn their fortunes around soon.

Best of luck NY, just don’t beat Vancouver
