  • Josh changed the title to Continental Cup Finals: Game 6

VAN 3, DAV 2 - F

Vancouver wins series 4-2.

The Continental Cup Finals are over; the cup is on the ice and the presentation is about to begin! The Vancouver Wolves have successfully defeated the HC Davos Dynamo for their fourth* championship and first in ten seasons. The Wolves opened the scoring a quarter into the first period when Matteo Stefano registered his fifth goal of the post-season, and despite offensive opportunities at both ends of the ice including one power play each, the Wolves would hold a 1-0 lead heading into the second period.

Three minutes and twelve seconds into the middle frame, Wolves Logan Ninefingers would snap a quick shot past Dilson to extend Vancouver's lead to 2-0. Davos' efforts to claw back into the game increased as the second progressed, including a flurry of activity on the powerplay, but was derailed by two spread out penalties that effectively neutralized their building momentum. As a result the Dynamo would exit the ice to their locker room down two-zip in an elimination game.

Fortunately, Antonia Bucatini and the rest of HC Davos Dynamo knew responding early in the third was the only way to mount a comeback effort. Bucatini scored two seconds shy of the three minute mark to reduce the deficit to one. Unfortunately, despite steady goaltending from Dilson, Vancouver would carry the momentum from an earlier Davos penalty to extend the lead to 3-1 after Bollos De Trueno scored the eventual game winning goal. Fourteen seconds later Bucatini potted his second of the game, determined to draw Davos back into a tie game. Sadly (or gladly), Skyo met Davos' late push by teaching the Dynamo the classic goaltending act of: "How to stop a fucking puck." Fundamentals, folk, Skyo let a dangerous rebound loose before eating a puck for a whistle to kill the developing play with less than a minute in the third.

(* = It is of this writers opinion the S80, S81 and S82 Vancouver championships are the product of overwhelming abuse that should not be officially recognized by the league.)
