Word has just come from the VHL Predictions office that diamond_ace, agent of busts (or is that busty agent? Nah that's Boom) has selected his own player to win an award. His predictions have goaltender Martin Brookside winning the Most Improved award, which as Brookside is his own player and therefore statistically incapable of ever being successful, means that he has officially forfeited the available point for correctly predicting the Most Improved. We have reached out to diamond_ace to ask about this lunacy.

 

"Well, I wanted to pick my player for an award, just so that he'd be in there. He's more likely to sign on with me, or to inspire other players to sign with me including Finnish defensive sensation Kerkko Hyvärinen, if he thinks I believe in him. It's bollocks of course, I don't believe in him in the slightest, but the important part is that he thinks I do. That's why I wanted to pick him for the award."

 

"Why specifically Most Improved? Well, I'd heard a lot of other people were picking him for that, so I figured if I was going to sacrifice a point, it wouldn't hurt me as much if it was a point no one else was going to get either. It certainly has nothing to do with the fact that he's on a better team with a better defense in front of him, practiced hundreds of hours in the offseason, and is an entirely logical candidate, discounting the fact that he is my player and therefore can't. No, that would be a silly reason. Everyone in the VHL knows that jinxes are stronger than logic."

I would have picked Brookside for MIP, except for the fact he actually did quite well last season, all things considered. He had like a .921 SV% I think?

This. He's definitely going to have a good year... but his stats were strong last year!
