DollarAndADream 3,356
Here's my previous articles: Season 41 Season 40 Season 38 + Part 2 I've taken a look back at other drafts in previous articles, but right now I want to peek into the draft of Season 39. It was an interesting one. James Faraday - 1st Overall ------------------------------------- ------------------------------------- You just cannot look at this draft without taking a hard look at James Faraday. This left winger has never had a season where he did not play in the post-season. He was drafted 1st overall to the Helsinki Titans where he plays his first three seasons. In his rookie year, he stepped into the VHL in Season 40, and he scored 23 goals and grabbed 27 assists, giving him 50 points in 72 games. Not too shabby for a first timer. He even had 6 points in 7 playoff games, although his team was eliminated in that series. In his second VHL season, he improved his numbers to 38 goals and 35 assists, for 73 points. He had 469 shots in that season, which is his most still to this day. In that post-season, he recorded 6 goals and 3 assists for 9 points in 11 games. They were taken out by the Riga Reign. His third season with the Helsinki Titans has been his career season so far, where he managed to put up 45 goals and 53 assists, for 98 points. All three of those are personal milestones for him that he has not beaten yet. In the playoffs of Season 42, he had 2 goals and assists, putting up 4 points in 7 games against the cup winning Cologne Express. In that off-season, he was traded over to the Seattle Bears, where he seemed to play a different role on that team and it impacted him statistically. He recorded 34 goals and 30 assists for 64 points, which was a huge drop off from his previous year's 98 points. Although in that season he was much more physical, throwing the body an impressive 289 times. It was the very same Season 43 where Faraday and the Seattle Bears went on to win the Continental Cup, while James contributed 13 points in 16 games. So far this season, he has been tearing it up once again, and he is not too far away from his last season's totals. He has 57 points in 41 games. Jackson Miller - 5th Overall ----------------------------------- ----------------------------------- Next up in this article is Jackson Miller, taken fifth overall by the Helsinki Titans in the same draft that they yanked Faraday from. Jackson is a right winger born in Canada coming from the Oslo Storm. In his rookie campaign in Season 39, he notched 25 goals and 29 assists for 54 points. He even managed 117 hits as a first year player on the team. In his sophomore attempt, he had 17 goals and 26 assists, taking a hit in production. Although, his +/- took a huge jump going from -34 to +43. He had 3 goals and 5 assists in the post-season, eventually being eliminated in round one by the Riga Reign. It seemed to be an off-year for him points-wise, while playing a more defensive game. In his third season in the VHL, Jackson Miller leaped back to the level he was at as a rookie, recording 29 goals and 28 assists for 57 points. He had 9 game winning goals as well, along with 315 shots, which was his best so far. In the Season 41 playoffs, Jackson scored 4 goals and adding 3 assists, for a total of 7 points in the Titans' 11 game run. It was in Season 42 where Miller put forward his most outstanding season. Scoring 33 goals and adding 57 assists for a sum of 90 points has been his best yet. He had 423 shots that season also, along with a respectable 103 hits. In the post-season though, Jackson Miller somewhat died off as he only managed 3 points in a 7 game defeat. In that off-season, he was traded to the Toronto Legion where he took a hit in production, but he still put forward his second best season. He had 73 points, including 37 goals which is the most he has ever scored in a single season. He also had his best season hits-wise with 170. After that, he was once again traded, this time to the Calgary Wranglers where he currently plays at. As a Wrangler this season, he is leading the way for the team so far at the 43 game mark, with 23 goals and 32 assists for 55 points. Jackson Miller is looking great and in prime form, with the possibility of having another milestone campaign or even lifting the cup. Devin Sundberg - 6th Overall ------------------------------------ ------------------------------------ Devin Sundberg went sixth overall to the now extinct Vasteras Iron Eagles, and is probably one of the more underrated players of this draft. He entered the VHL from the VHLM Bern Royals, and in Season 40 had an impressive outing putting forth 31 goals and 38 assists for 68 points with the Toronto Legion. Almost a point-per-game as a first-year player. It was in Season 41 where he scored his goal milestone so far, where he notched 50 goals and 44 assists for 94 points as a sophomore. Stellar numbers for a second year, even managing 407 shots. Devin was traded to the HC Davos Dynamo that off-season, where he saw his numbers drop off a little bit. Sundberg had 36 goals and 33 assists in his first season with Davos, even putting up a 50% success rate in the face off circle. In his second season in Davos last year, he improved and laid out 34 goals and 45 assists, for 79 points. That is the most assists he has ever contributed, and he was a career-best +22. His face off percentage even jumped up to 56.5%. In that post-season, his first ever, Devin managed 2 goals and assists in 6 games, being outed by the Cologne Express. So far this season, he is leading the Dynamo with 44 points in 43 games, including 23 goals while remaining strong in the face off dot at a nice 56.9%. Do not write off HC Davos as a contender this season. Higgins 3,618
Draft produced solid players, just no real super star. Still 2.5 seasons left to go to find a hall of famer in the bunch.
