How the Top Draftees of S45 Doing?

www.VHLHockeyNews.com

A quarter of the way into the S45 season, VHLN takes a look at how the top of the draft class has started their careers post draft.

#1 Phil Hamilton – D

For a first overall pick, Hamilton has yet to establish himself as a household name. In 17 games Hamilton has 5 points playing on the top defensive pairing with Pablo Escabar. A slow but steady start one could say, Hamilton has been a good compliment to the pairing as he provides a solid all around game and is learning to be more physical. We were expecting a few more points out the #1 overall so the 5 points comes as a slight disappointment and due to this, Hamilton at this time does not seem like a front runner for the top rookie award.

#3 Greg Glegane – G

In comparison to his teammate, Glegane has been the big story in Helsinki this year. Nobody saw this coming, but Clegomania has taken the league by storm. A dominating 0.928SAV and 1.911 GAA lead the league with 14 wins, something rarely ever done by a rookie goalie with only one year in the VHLM. Glegane is also establishing as MVP material amongst the strong youth laden Titan’s. Can he keep up the pace? If so, he certainly will be looking at a trifecta of hardware at the end of the season.

#3 Ariel Weinstein – G

The controversy here was that the Meute had previously lead on that they were going to pick Kyanon here but in the last moment reversed their decision and decided to go with highly touted goalie Ariel Weinstein, fresh off a Founders championship. A high end prospect with talent to spare, Weinstein has already made the jump to the VHL successfully. The numbers currently are fairly decent and expected of a first year goaltender as the Meute sit in a playoff spot with Weinstein who sports a 0.907SAV and 2.90GAA. Decent start here, but not likely to contest for any major award or the top rookie race this season.

#4 Sandro Glegane – G

Sandro Clegane has been returned to his junior team in the VHLM where he is leading the Moscow wolves to a league leading 14 wins. Currently contesting with Coca Cola for the top goalie in the league, many expect Sandro to make the jump to the VHLM in S46.

#5 Biggu Kyanon – D

The much maligned defender dropped from #3 to #5 due to risk of him not being capable of making an impact in the VHL. Kyanon has had an up and down season so far as he looks to make an impact in the league. Posting 12 points in 17 games, Kyanon is looking to become more consistent in his production numbers.  Has played remarkably well with Benjamin Dupont on the 2nd defensive pairing.

#6 Evgeny Nezhmetdinov – F

A strong playmaking forward in juniors, Nezzy has not established himself as an offensive threat at the VHL level yet and this may be due in part with Cologne rushing him into their roster a year early as Nezhmetdinov has only a single assist in 17 games thus far in S45. Known for rushing prospects before they are ready, Mr. Powers still has the option of sending Nezhmetdinov back down to the juniors at this time which may be advisable as the youngster is clearly playing without confidence and somewhat out of his league currently.

#7 Marquis Hyvarinen –  D

A defense first dman, Hyvarinen has been sent back to the junior level to develop and currently may be the most raw of any of the 1st round prospects in S45. It may be a year or two before Hyvarinen gets a look at the big leagues as even at the junior level, Hyvarinen  has not established himself as a dominate force.

#8 Bubba Nuck - D

A late value pick by Seattle is looking promising. Somewhat considered a reach at #8, Nuck’s development has been quite steady as he projects to be a physical defenseman at the next level. While perhaps not considered a superstar, Nuck will provide great depth to a team’s blueline and provide the grit  that all teams require for deep runs into the playoffs. Project to be in the VHL as early as next year.

#9 Lucas Zhukenov – D

A reach at #9 as the defender was considered extremely raw, Zhukenov is quietly progressing to a point where he may surprise and reach the VHL before some of the prospects before him. Originally signed by Brampton from VHLM waivers, Zhukenov has established himself as a point producer at the junior level. With 19 points in 17 games in the VHLM, the future is looking bright and the pick looking smart.

#10 Ryan Price

A developing goaltender, Price was sent back to his junior club to develop. Currently considered a longshot for the VHL as his numbers in the VHLM are fairly sub-par considering his draft status.

Content 3/3 - Pretty good draft. It will be interesting to see where everyone is a few seasons. Nice write-up and blurb on everyone here!

Grammar 2/2 - A couple of errors here and there, but nothing really worth bringing up!

Titan's -> Titans

#3. Greg Clegane -> #2

Appearance 1/1 - You could've used small headshots for every player but three pictures works too!
