Devise 4,475
Still more Cups than Kesler. I'd also make the argument that the strategies that involve cherishing your picks can be just as damaging to a franchise. It's worth noting too that when I joined Cologne I encouraged as Co GM Romanes to draft Kendrick/Green. Picks are only good if they are top 5 in a super draft. Otherwise they do nothing but help keep your franchise lingering like so many have. Sure the elite teams draft well, but they also trade well. Helsinki build a good core, but it wasn't until O'Malley and Klose got on board that they won back to back. You have to trade picks to win at some point. I wonder who told Draper to abandon Higgins' principles and buy early... Also plz, Helsinki drafted and traded simultaneously. One off-season is all it takes. I wonder who told Draper to abandon Higgins' principles and buy early... I said you guys drafted well. I'm just saying the trade mattered to. As the stats show, 2 teams have won cups other than Season 1 without a previous Cup winner. To me that implies the majority of Cup winners either did absolutely amazing at drafting and won back to back (only happened a few times) or they traded/free agency signed players with Cup experience. Remember how long Street and Jericho pursued a Cup with New York? They were mostly home grown, at least the two main stars of the team were. It wasn't until the team had both Reik and Chershenko that they went over the hump, two players that had to be traded for. Also, nice pat on the back it was smart for Draper to buy when he did. I probably also sold too early considering how good O'Malley actually was. Admin Victor 10,940 Posted February 24, 2016 Author Admin Share Posted February 24, 2016 I don't disagree with you and I pretty much follow the same logic (see Davos). It's just a shame we've never actually seen you face the consequences of your style and go through a rebuild. I'd be interested to see what that looks like. After my next player (post Humbert) I've debated taken up the GM role for an entire players career. I'd like to try and cross off some things on my list of VHL stuff I haven't done. I haven't ever had a player go his full career length. I haven't ever not been a GM at some point during all my players careers. I also haven't ever stuck it out 8 seasons with one team or GM"d long enough to see said consequences. So we'll see. I have my plan for my next player all planned out, who will likely still suck. But after that I may jump back into the seat. gregreg 930
next time don't say you were going to retire/go inactive. that might help the team you're leaving Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/28397-swing-in-balance-of-power-imminent/page/2/#findComment-314549 Share on other sites

I said I'd be semi active, and I'd argue I've lived up to that expectation. I mean I try to do a MS every week and have gotten better but last season for example I missed plenty and was on welfare.
