Swing in balance of power imminent

Next season, prepare for quite an impressive swing in the balance of power in the VHL. In Seasons 45 and 46, every single team in the European Conference had hopes of getting into the playoffs. In Season 48, we'll be hoping for two playoff calibre teams in the conference, depending on what happens to Stockholm.

Cologne realised that trying to compete forever wasn't working once Ryan “Fuck Draft Picks” Power stepped aside. At least the first-round picks they traded for Joshua Rubin and Gifford Shock were S47 selections. Davos collapsed inwards and it seems Riga will now follow after failing to win a playoff game in 14 attempts over 3 seasons. The Vikings have made a valiant effort to challenge Helsinki's supremacy but GM Prevost will need to use serious black magic to build on it this off-season.

It's not all bad though, as in North America, where we have recently seen lacklustre Quebec and Toronto teams in the playoffs after losing the tanking race, we could potentially see four contenders for the playoff spots. Calgary and New York are the established elite but Seattle and Toronto are looking at their best since around S37 (S43 does not count!). Depending on how bad at being bad Quebec continues to be, it could be quite a battle next season, unless of course Calgary bites the bullet and bids farewell to their excellent playoff run.

Yay.
