Anyone Good With 20th Century European History?

I'm a solid student but I'm gonna be struggling with this paper to provide big details and movements because there's some countries' histories I'm not familiar with.

The assignment:

Select ONE country from each of the following 3 lists:

1) Great Britain, France, West Germany

2) Poland, Hungary, Czechoslovakia, Spain, Italy

3) USSR, USSR, USSR, USSR (Clearly don't have an option here)

For each country that you select (I selected West Germany, Czechoslovakia, and USSR), write an organize and detailed essay in which you identify and discuss the following with regard to the period from 1948 through the 1980s.

Poltical Developments: (systems of government, parties, voting rights, key leaders and/or national movements, civil conflict and rebellion, local and regional issues within each country)

Social/ Cultural Developments and History: (racial, ethnic, religious, and gender rights/relationships, day to day lifestyles, class structures, rich/poor gap, literature and the arts, education)

Economic Developments: (industrialization and manufacturing, agriculutural production, standards of living, international trade, government roles, and responsibilities -- i.e. socialist or free market institutions.)

Foreign Relations Developments: (internal conflict, membership in regional and international organizations, Cold War roles, decolonization)

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

You do not need to address all of the above elements for each country that you choose to deal with.

Recognize the rather open nature of the final exam in comparison to the more particular, closed questions on the first two exams. The more relevant information you include, the greater your opportunity for success.

I have no problem with switching the countries I already chose, so don't worry about that. I'm not asking you guys to do my paper by any means, I'm just trying to get some valuable information if anyone knows any, it would help me a lot. You can post it here or PM me, this is due tomorrow at 1 soooo yeah. :D Anything would be appreciated guys.

Yeah, I don't have much of a problem with the USSR because I find that era of their history fascinating. The other two list of options, doesn't matter which country is picked, I'm more than willing to switch.. I don't know much about any of them at all, except maybe a bit about West Germany and Czechoslovakia. Just hoping to get a bit of a push here.

Yeah I think overall Germany could benefit you with the knowledge out there. I like you am fascinated by the USSR and their history.

Stevo, Myself, John Cleese (Romanes) and several others around here know that shit.

I do history, though I've never focused on any of these areas I do have background knowledge out of pure interest.

You obviously seem comfortable with USSR but I can definitely help with that as my parents lived there for a long time and my dad in general knows shit and I've kind of come to know it too (plus USSR links with 20th century China which I've studied in depth).

Out of option 2, only country I have anything above minimum knowledge about is Italy and I do like Italy so I'd like to think it's fairly decent.

So just PM me if you want to. If you stick with your choices, then USSR is the only one I can help with. I'll reply tomorrow before 1 your time (like 2-3 my time).

I could help you out with Germany.

You are a fantastic human being, you made that part a breeze for me.

Kinda bullshitting my way through Czechoslovakia, as I don't want to be rushing to finish this tomorrow.. Then I will close out with the USSR which should be easy. Thanks guys who offered to help. :)

No problem man, hope everything was understandable, I know my english can be tough to read sometimes :D.

I just realized that the links I posted for the student protests and the Wiederbewaffnung don't work - apparently the site has a problem with parentheses. Apparently the sentences following the links were absorbed into the links so they both didn't work and the next point disappeared too. Here are the parts that were missing:

- The most important civil conflicts of that time definitely are the Protests of 1968 which are a very big topic themselves which is rather tough to summarize, you can read up on it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/German_student_movement

in short they were a left wing protest mainly lead by young people that aimed to break up the very conservative and rather authoritative social clima of that time and also criticized how quick the german public had been to swipe away everything that happened in the Third Reich and how easy it was for many people who committed crimes during that area to be re-integrated into the german society

- The "Wiederbewaffnung" should be a good topic for your paper, you can find more about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wiederbewaffnung

It was a big debate in Germany in the 1950s if the country should, less than 10 years after WWII, consider rearmament and get an armed forces again to join the western alliance framework
