eaglesfan036 4,605
New Members/Recruiting Thoughts The VHL is pretty similar to the Night's Watch in that we spread the word and always talk about trying to get new members, but it is really tough for us. We have @sterling as our Alister Thorne who is a prickly commander at times but he gets things done (though I do trust he will never stab Draper ). We have @Victor as Aegon Targaryen since he retired from commish and has random big spurts of activity. Then we have @Draper as the Lord Commander trying to keep this place together, @Higgins is the Night's King trying to kill us all, and @JardyB10 is Jon Snow because he thinks he is pretty. Looks just like real life Higgins When I was first introduced to the VHL, I thought the concept to be stupid, and I remember saying something like, "Why would I want to write more stuff to make my player better when I already have to write a bunch of stuff for school?" This is pretty similiar to Jon Snow's initial impression of the Night's Watch, as he wasn't too impressed with the people he was with initially. Like Azor Ahai Jon Snow, I too grew to love this league because of it's awesome community and my love of GMing. If we can get new members to really spend a solid few hours checking out the league, they can see it has a lot to offer. We have 18 GM opportunities that can be a lot of fun, the VHL Mag which is a unique and great tradition we have, and we also always have a great chat companion in @tfong! Unfortunately, it is really difficult to get people to even visit and check out the VHL. We put something like $40 into reddit ads showing the VHL, and while it got lots of views we didn't get a single recruit from it. I personally have spammed around 500 youtube videos related to hockey, and only have gotten 2 recruits, and only one of them, @Daniel is still active. Most of our recruits seem to come from other sim leagues, so the question is how do these other sim leagues get these initial recruits? In a recent BOG thread, we discussed how the SHL contacted Reddit Moderators to let them post a thread promoting their league, and then they gave everyone 2 tpe to like the promotion and comment so it generates attention. I know reddit has done lots of good for the SHL, and I think we need to try and start using it more as well. The other important part of the recruitment process is the VHLM. We recently made a great change with waiver rules I've wanted for a while, where VHL GM's now go and make a pitch and bid money on new members, and new members can pick the team they go to. This is great because it makes new members feel wanted, and now new members can choose between getting lots of minutes on a bad team or getting less minutes on a more active team. Additionally, the VHLM GMs need to continue to do a good job of keeping their guys active. We have a good mix of enthusiastic young pups combined with old veterans at GM who can each provide their own kind of help to the noobs. Now let's just recruit some more guys to give these GMs more to work with. Smarch 3,196
Review: Never seen any GOT so I didn't understand the references. This was a well written media spot with about 3 mistakes spelling wise. I don't know what the problem is with retention of new members. Recruitment is a problem, but much more so is retention of new members. Hopefully the new VHLM waiver rules and two player project helps out. Good job buddy! eaglesfan036 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/32357-claimednew-membersrecruiting-thoughts-reviewed/#findComment-362248 Share on other sites
