Chris Miller

Joined: Season 12

Positions Held: VHLM General Manager, VHL General Manager, VHL Magazine, Grader, Board of Governers, VHLM Commissioner., World Cup Commissioner, Super Cup Commissioner, World Cup General Manager, Updater, Recruiter, Creator of Hall of Fame Players Ryan Sullivan and Brick Wahl

Chris Miller is a name that most VHL members are familiar with, but very few members can claim to know how much he’s done for the league. Even when I sat down to write this article, I asked Chris himself for his resume and he couldn’t even remember everything he’s done for the league. It took a combined effort of Ryan Power, Chris and myself to nail down the entire list.

Chris joined the VHL during Season 12, and had a short stint with his first player, Chris Miller, before going inactive. He returned in what most would consider his first serious time during Season 17. Chris created Michael Angelo who holds the record for most assists in a rookie season (98) and was a semi-active member who showed up to do PTs most of the time, and not much else, other than a season as a VHLM GM in Season 20. This was the extent of his legacy before I joined the league in Season 22.

During the 20s, Chris’ interest in the VHL grew, and he became much more of a respected figure in the league. In Season 28 he returned to his post as a VHLM GM in Kolari where he remained until Season 32. This time he stepped down in order to step up, as a spot had opened up for his first tenure as a VHL GM. Miller was the GM for the New York Americans from Season 33-46, an exceptionally long career by VHL standards. During this time he amassed 2 Continental Cups (S38, S41) and 3 Executive of the Year awards (S38, S39, S41). Since then Chris has returned to the GMing mantle as the head of the Stockholm Vikings, looking to break the infamous curse that has plagued the team since Season 26.

GMing only scratches the surface of Miller’s accomplishments, he’s also been a grader, an updater, the head recruiter, a mainstay in the Board of Governers, commissioner for both the World and Super Cups (as well as a GM for the former). Name a job and chances are that Chris has done it.

Outside of the member side of things, Chris has also been very successful with his players. As previously mentioned, Chris Miller and Michael Angelo were a tad substandard, but Ryan Sullivan is one of the greatest VHL defensemen of all time, and Brick Wahl was a top goalie during his career. Both of these players have already been immortalized in the Hall of Fame for a variety of reasons.

Outside of the official things, Chris has been a strong influence in a lot of other ways. He was a part of the committee which rebuilt the league after the Ddos attack, doing countless jobs in an incredibly quick fashion. He’s been a longtime host of the VHL’s flagship podcast, the (Rauno/Rift/Laichly Rift’s) Pajodcast, with Ryan Power and myself, recording god knows how many episodes over the years.

Chris Miller is a remarkable man. I’ve had the pleasure of meeting him on several occasions and have the privilege of calling him a friend. He’s grown from being a cocky teenager ready to bandwagon onto a fight on the boards into a respectable adult who’s going places in the real world, and has clearly already gone places in the VHL. Chris is an inspiration as both a member and a person, and trying to follow in his footsteps is a worthy goal for any new member.

Awesome to see a write up finally done for him. As much as people may complain about the love I think it was only fitting for @Jericho to do it.

I can happily say that I am the person I am in this league strongly because of Advantage, he was in the BoG well before me and it was really his influence that helped push some of my more involved VHL career along. The idea of being in the league without him would be tough honestly, and I know it may happen one day.
