hedgehog337 3,483
The Elite 5 right here. *THE BEST!* 5. Matt Bentz@Matt S10, S15 champion +1 finals 4 seasons as a VHLM GM Not only he pulled up the first two-peat in VHL's league history, he also managed to make the historically bad Syracuse/Minot franchise to a relevant thing. 3 finals and 2 cups in 4 seasons is some phenomenal shit, I swear. The only thing he didn't win, is Ken Holland Trophy - Zach Arce from Moscow was able to steal that award from Matt's hands in S15. Other than that, a very solid VHLM GM tenure from the man who was one of the best VHL managers in S9-S19 period. 4. Jardy Bunclewirth @JardyB10 S19, S46 champion S19 Ken Holland Trophy winner S46 Jack Reilly Trophy winner +3 finals 11 seasons as a VHLM GM (current Ottawa GM) He is the last manager who led Minot to the cup in S19. His next comeup happened 27 seasons later, in S46 when he took the Ottawa Lynx and won the cup right away. He is the only VHLM GM who won Ken Holland and Jack Reilly Trophy award. Needless to say that he is a very good junior GM, despite of his 2/11 record. He would've been higher on this list if I created the GREATEST VHLM GM's list, but right now, he's #4 on my list. One more cup - and he's very close to first. Also, he's on pace for VHLM GM tenure record, although he needs 5 more seasons to do it. Yes, it's not so easy to set up the record, @The Bread Man. 3. Blake Campbell @Banackock S47, S48 champion S44, S47, S48 Jack Reilly Trophy winner 5 seasons as a VHLM GM He joined the VHL only in S41, but he didn't had to wait long before VHLM commishes gave him the Bratislava Watchmen to manage. And he didn't disappoint - he cleaned up the mess after DT's disimiss and made Brat's great again in S47 and 48. Also, he managed to grab the Jack Reilly trophy in S44 (not even mentioning the championship seasons) despite not being even in finals - that's a very rare thing here. And we could speculate who was the more legit winner: Sasky's Brody Hodgson ( @Tylar ), who is only one of two GM's after Reilly who led the Wild to the Cup (Adwyer is second); Glasser from Oslo or Campbell. The numbers don't lie though - 3 votes were enough for Blake to win that award. He produced a nice 2/5 record before taking Seattle after his second championship. 2. Austin Gow @eaglesfan036 S37, S38 champion S37, S38, S41 Ken Holland trophy winner +2 finals 6 seasons as a VHLM GM And now you know the answer: yes, he had more success with GM'ing the VHLM team than his ''brother'' Jim Gow. I don't know, if he was a creator of YUKON 2 GUD thing, but no matter who created it, his Yukon indeed was 2 gud. He made the Rush the powerhouse franchise: after his win in S38, Yukon already had 4 cups. The sad thing his second cup was the last for Yukon so far, although he wasn't so far in S41 when his team faced Bratislava in finals. He lost that series, but he added another Ken Holland Trophy to his trophy shelf. His three-straight finals appearances, 2 cups and 3 GM trophies is darn impressive stat for any manager. He has the similar accolades as Banackock's, but Eagle's 4 finals little bit outweighs Bana's accomplishments, hence he is listed second here. 1. Jack Reilly @CoachReilly S24, S25, S28 champion S18, S24, S25, S28 Ken Holland Trophy award +1 finals 12 seasons as a VHLM GM There's indeed a reason why the VHLM GM award was renamed after Jack Reilly in S42. And forget about his 3/12 record - he turned Saskatoon from a piss-poor organization to a dominant force in S24-28 period. His first accomplishment came in S18, though - he didn't even make it into the finals, but he was awarded the Ken Holland award. After some failed attempts after S18 he took VHLM by storm:two-peat in S24-25, S27 finals and another cup in S28. He's the only VHLM manager who won 3 cups and only Jardy has a chance to join him in the near future. So you can say what you want, but he is the most successful and one of the greatest VHLM GM ever. His 12 stright seasons with Saskatoon can be described only in one word: WILD! Well deserved first place imo. That's it, I'm out. 6 TPE goes to Petenis. He was with Calgary longer than those two seasons though, I think he was Calgary's longest tenured GM before Jason beat everyone for that. He may or may not be in the Builder HOF. eaglesfan036 1 Link to comment https://vhlforum.com/topic/37817-the-10-most-successful-vhlm-gms-5-1-12/#findComment-413317 Share on other sites
JardyB10 4,869
Also thank you for the kind words. I don't think I'm anything special, but I hope to tie Coach's record this season.
