The season has ended and now we look forward to the playoffs and for those who missed now get to look forward to the World Cup. However, right now I will look at the Rookie of the Year Trophy. There was a pretty strong rookie class this season from the Season 54 Draft and those who spent an extra season in the VHLM from the Season 53 Draft. The strongest candidates are John Locke, Fred Krigars, Marc-Alexandre Leblanc with goaltenders Torstein Irionside, Markus King and Jacob sprinkled in there.

John Locke led all rookies in points with 43 goals and 44 assists for 87 points, Fred Krigars scored 38 goals and assisted on 45 goals for 83 points and finally M-A Leblanc scoring 40 goals and assisted on 34 goals for 74 points. Markus King had a very solid rookie season with a 17-40-7 with a 0.925 save percentage and a 2.80 G.A.A with 5 shutouts. Torstein Ironside on the other hand had a record of 25-37-2 with a 0.917 save percentage and a 2.65 G.A.A with 7 shutouts. Finally, Jacob had a 18-42-4 record with a 0.928 save percentage and a 2.94 G.A.A with 5 shutouts.

That goes without saying the other darkhorse candidates who put up some nice point totals without the help Locke, Krigars and Leblanc had. Roman Sokolov was basically the only position player of note on Toronto and he had a fine season for a defenseman with 22 goals and 42 assists for 64 points. Shawn Gretzky and Pablo were the only two position players on Davos and they had strong rookie seasons of 32 goals and 28 assists for 60 points and 16 goals and 36 assists for 52 points. Pablo led the league in shots blocked while Shawn Gretzky took the most hits which meant he had the puck the most and was truly one of the only playmakers on Davos.

The committee should have fun naming a three person ballot.
