Red Hot Start for Ottawa

VHLM News

Season 66 is underway in the VHLM and the Ottawa Lynx have gotten off to a tremendous start. In their first 10 games, the Lynx have an 8-1-1 record, for 17 points and are tied for first in the league with the Philadelphia Reapers. Offensively, defensively and especially goaltending: the Lynx have been firing on all cylinders. This article will dig a little bit deeper on recent transactions and check in on individual player stats through 10 games for Ottawa.

Transactions

1. Signing – Ambrose Stark – D

Last week, we reported that the Lynx were heavily connected to defensive prospect Ambrose Stark, who was a highly touted free agent. Ultimately, Stark decided to sign a one-year contract with Ottawa and added a big boost to their back end. Stark is an elite puck moving defenseman who has already seen early success. In his six games as a member of the Lynx, he has tallied 3 goals and 3 assists while playing on the teams top defensive pairing. The Lynx were definitely lacking that high-end talent on defense and Stark definitely is helping fill that hole. Overall – a massive signing for Ottawa and a transaction that did not require the team to spend draft capital as it was announced subsequent to the VHLM Dispersal Draft.

2. Trade – Jordan Tonn – Center

The Stark signing wasn’t the only transaction Ottawa completed this week, they also made an offensive Splash to acquire highly skilled centerman, Jordan Tonn, from Las Vegas for a Season 68 1st round pick, Season 67 5th round pick and further compensation to be announced later. In nine games for Las Vegas, Tonn has registered 3 goals and 10 assists. The Aces are clearly not contenders this year so the trade made a ton of sense for both parties. Tonn will join fellow centers Pascal Batz and Aston Martin to form one of the best groups in the entire VHLM. This move clearly solidifies that the Lynx are going for a championship this year.

Players Stats

The Lynx have had contributions from many players so far this season, which speaks to their offensive and defensive depth. They currently have seven players with at least a point per game (Laughton, Tonn, Lindberg, Draper, Wagner, Batz and Martin). The leading goal scorer, Blake Laughton, has tallied six goals and eight assists so far in this young season. One of the surprises at the top of the scoring sheet has been defenseman David Lindberg, who was a mid round draft pick in the recent VHLM Dispersal Draft. Lindberg has six goals and seven assists so far this season, which is very impressive for a second pairing defenseman. [ We wrote about Lindberg last week as a player to watch ] This balanced offensive attack is something to keep an eye on as the season progresses as depth is a very key factor in playoff pushes. Further, the team has received outstanding goaltending from Pekka Pouta, who is arguably the top goalie in the VHLM. He holds an astounding 1.27 GAA, a 93% save percentage and four shutouts.

It is too early to anoint the Lynx the darling of the VHLM this season, but this red-hot start has been very impressive and is a testament to great management from the GM and strong worth ethic by the players.

Review: Great work on this Media Spot, as the other commenters noted. I think the structure of it is really good, well spaced-out. I also like how you covered different areas of the team, from trades to stats. Overall great work! (and go Lynx ;) )
