ECN's "VHL Now!"

In this edition of ECN's "VHL Now!" we will talk about standings, personal achievements and more! As always, this ECN post is brought to you by Frostbeard Entertainment!

To start this off, it is important to point out that, as this season is ending and will be finished quite soon, battle for the playoff spot between New York Americans and Toronto Legion is gonna be tense as Toronto has to be perfect in every game that is left this season to fight off New York as they already have 5 point lead for the 3rd place in North American conference. It is worth mentioning that Helsinki Titans have already claimed to be the best regular season team of S66. Congratulations to GM Quik for this great accomplishment and good luck to every team who will face Titans in playoffs, you will need it!

Talking about Titans and their success, we have to point out the amazing play of their first liners – Julian Borwinn and Matt Thompson. Julian Borwinn is one the true real surprises this season in VHL as no one in ECN actually guessed that he would be so high up in points category. Matt Thompson, the league-leading goal scorer with 45 goals in 67 games played is keeping up with his yearly expectations. Another interesting player to point out is Dan Montgomery, who currently, as voted by our staff here in ECN, would be considered the best Offensive defenceman in VHL this season. With 85 points and +39, he is truly unstoppable as he is getting that many points while almost averaging a 2 PM per game! To be fair, a huge portion of the success Helsinki can be put on the shoulders of Alexander Pepper who currently sits in 4th place in VHL in save percentage category, yes, he is not on the same level as the leagues best goaltender this season Brick Wahl, but that doesn’t take away from his greatness as the chemistry all these players show on the ice is truly magnificent and every single player is a part of that formula.

Moving to individual achievements, well, if you can really call them achievements, Maxim Kovalchuk, a defenceman for Calgary Wranglers is leading the league in Penalty minute category with 185 PIM in 66 games. That means Maxim is averaging 2.8 penalty minutes per game. As he is a really important piece in Wranglers success this season, he probably should tone that down for the playoffs as losing a high scoring defenseman is not gonna help to rack up wins necessary to beat some of the super strong European Conference teams. Talking about another interesting category, we have to point out Leph Twinger and his groundbreaking 273 hits in 66 games played. We are still unsure if he hasn’t been involved in some x-men experiments as his body has to be broken in pieces already.

Shane Mars, currently sitting as the favourite for ROTY award, is a really interesting player. He is high scoring forward that is playing on a truly terrible team in Seattle as they sit in the last place and are eliminated from playoffs in North American Conference. The interesting part about him is that Shane has shot the puck 489 times and that puts hi min the first place in that category in all VHL. He is showing that he could become one of the leading goalscorers in VHL very soon until then he has to improve his shot even more because with that amount of shots taken only 8.6% are contributing to the success of his team.

And that will be it this time in this weeks ECN coverage! We hope you all will have a great time and will catch you next time! Remember – if you have any suggestions, be sure to contact our chief editor Frostbeard.
