ECN’s "VHL Now!" 8th Edition “Expansion, BoG and the Elite”

With another week, we are back with ECN’s VHL Now, opinions and facts about last week in VHL. With this week slowly moving to an end it is important to talk about league expansion, newly assigned members to the Board of Governors and as always – best players in VHL right now!

Expansion

It is important to mention that with this 2 team expansion VHL has crossed into the new era of VHL as in no time previously VHL has had 12 teams. It surely is an important question of where these teams will be located but for that, we need to wait for an announcement coming from VHL Commissioners. There is always a question of how competitive the first season for both of the expansion teams will be considering the amazing talent coming up in the draft. Another question, of course, is always of the abilities from their respective GM’s. In this case, both selections seem to be great considering that both have had experience when it comes to being a GM in some way. All in all, the decision to expand the league was clearly necessary and important.

Board of Governors

It should come as a surprise to many that something as big and important like change in the top end leadership of VHL was kept quiet and was not discussed anywhere. A decision is made and for us at ECN, even though some names might seem out of place, is acceptable. It should be noted that with these kinds of decisions there should be a chance for other people interested to apply and talk about possibilities to become a part of the Board of Governors. Transparency is a key in a league like VHL and we can’t allow decisions like this go unnoticed and be brought up like a fact.

The Elite

As always, we are going to look at the top players in VHL and see who is the best this week. A truly tough an interesting battle for the leading place on the scoreboard can be seen as both Rauno Palo and Podrick Cast are having 96 points. It should be added that as Rauno Palo is having a game in hand, so he might be moving up to the spot he is accustomed to. It is clearly important to mention a resurgence of growth in one of the most intriguing players in VHL. Joseph McWolf has been playing lights out for Riga Reign this season as he is not only the best offensive defencemen in VHL this league, but he is showing the same greatness that was last seen from his in S64. Not to mention his already great goal-scoring numbers that are best from all defencemen in VHL this season. We probably should mention the best line in VHL right now too, as the best +/- category is lead by 5 players who are all playing for the mighty Toronto Legion. They have been unstoppable and we are not sure if there is anything that teams can do to cool them down.

But that will be it this week on ECN’s “VHL Now!” As we are getting ready for the draft there will be many more prospect interviews coming up and many more interesting articles by your #1 Media outlet here in VHL!

FWIW that has only been the case once in my memory. General procedure for the BOG has always been that we approach people we feel would bring a good voice to the BOG rather than opening it up publicly. We’re not trying to hide or anything, just the way the BOG has always been handled. If anyone wishes to join they can express their interest to us directly, that’s how I got in ages ago. It’s not a paid job so doesn’t receive the usual interview thread.

Thanks for the response, it just seemed to be a bit out of the blue.

A re-shuffle this big is a bit. Usually we just do 1 or 2 spots at a time as needed but it’s been awhile so we figured it was time for a bigger one. That out of the blue feeling is exactly why we have created the Public Liaison though. @tfong should be keeping everyone nice and informed about our discussions unless they are something that needs to stay private for a time such as future expansions and such.

In my eyes adding a Public Liaison is one of the best moves that VHL Leadership has made since I am on the site and in the league. It is great and it should improve the question of transparency as there will be more demand for that with a steadily growing community.

We have tried it in the past but its never been an official position, just someone who’s willing to do it so eventually it tends to die off. Hopefully with an official position it’ll be better.
