The rookie class of S69 has had the lowest point totals in recent history by no small margin. It’s hard to point a particular cause for this downturn, but the results of the season have laid bare the death of the rookie caliber seen in recent seasons. Looking back to S65, the rookie class held Kyson Blake at the top with 88 points, well over PPG, with Baillie and Fish following well behind at 59 and 58 points respectively. The following year even more effective were the rookies with Shane Mars coming into the top with a whopping 94 points, trailed closely by Jet Jaguar at 90 points, and Teagan Glover coming one point shy of PPG with 71. Already we see a massive fall off with the S69 class, the entire top 10 of the S66 clears house with every single one surpassing this seasons leader with 51 points. The next few seasons set a closer precedent, however. S67 had Nygren, Forest and Frostbeard come in at 63, 56 and 56 points each. Despite the lower top numbers, the class maintained depth with the top 3 players within 7 points of eachother. S68 maintained the same concept, Miniti, Wilcox and Draven clock in at 67, 65 and 63. A substantially narrower window and generally a more effective class. Yet here we are, S69, and we see a shockingly underwhelming performance from these rookies. Soren Jensen topped the class at 51 points, followed with a drastic drop off from Cinnamon Block and Ryo Yamazuki II at 39 points a piece. It’s a drastic difference from the seasons past where the middle of the pack rookies would’ve placed at the top of this class. That’s not to discredit this seasons class, I’m not entirely sure the reason for the decline in points, this was more an observation of a rather shocking numbers decline. If anyone wants to take a deeper dive at this go for it but I’m too lazy to do so.

Lower scoring league wide so probably not a reflection on rookies alone.

That said, is harder than ever to produce as a young player in the league.

I think this may lead to Hall of Fame voters needing to change the way they look at voting. There was a discussion going on in Discord a couple of days ago about thresholds for players making it and the combination of lower rookie impact as well as lower league scoring makes it seem like no one will hit those.

Chances are the standards will have to be lower to accommodate lower scoring. The same as the standards for goalies in the 40’s and 50’s for example are super high because goalie numbers were dominant during those seasons so the stats can’t really be compared to the norm.

It's probably the same amount of scoring is happening as before, the sim just has to spread it to more people now.

I highly doubt we'll see any more 100+pt rookies for a while unless membership takes a dip
