The Calgary Wranglers come into the second third of S71 as the hottest team in the league riding a 6-game winning streak all the way to the top of the standings with 36 points and the VHL lead in Goals For (82) and Goal Differential (21). The streak makes them only the second team this season, the other being the Seattle Bears, to post a win streak that long. Calgary will look to push the streak to seven when they host those same Bears next in Game 157.

Strong all-around play has been a key to the Wranglers’ streak as they continue to post the league’s best penalty kill and take the second-fewest penalties. They improved their visiting record as well, as they won four of the six games on the road. Young netminder Jacques Lafontaine @SlapshotDragon has been brilliant between the pipes going (obviously) 6-0 with a 1.67 GAA and getting an easy shutout against lowly Davos as the Dynamo could only muster 6 shots against him.

The offense has been surging with the Wranglers lighting the red lamp just over 3.8 times a game. Leading the way has been RJ Jubis @Jubis with 5 goals and the rejuvenated Ondrej Ohradka, who has tripled his point total by notching 4 goals including the last two game-winners and his first career two-goal game. All in all the Wranglers have received 23 goals from nine different players including three goals from the defense.

With three European teams hot on their heels, can Calgary keep the streak alive or is this a momentary flare?
