Shootouts Plague, Yet Propel Prague

PRAGUE - With a record of 7-6-5, you would expect to find the Prague Phantoms near the bottom of the standings. Despite only having one more win than the New York Americans and the same as the second-to-last D.C. Dragons, the Phantoms are currently tied with the HC Davos Dynamo for 5th in the VHL. Despite five losses in overtime or the shootout, the extra points are keeping Prague right in the thick of the hunt.

"It's frustrating, because those are five more points we could have had," said Thomas Landry II after a team practice. "But at the same time, those are also five points that we very easily could have lost. It's easy to forget about that when you keep ending up on the wrong side of those games, but getting ourselves into that position so frequently is keeping us in a good position."

After the retirements of reigning MVP goalie Brick Wahl and Joel Ylonen, many predicted Prague to miss the playoffs after nearly taking the top seed in the European Conference last season. But behind Solomon Crawford in net and Roll Fizzlebeef making his final season among his best, the Phantoms are rolling right along. Their strong defensive core is keeping them in games and making Crawford's transition into being a starting goaltender easier, while their balanced group of forwards continue to take turns being the one to make plays. However, the pesky shootout keeps the Phantoms from getting ahead.

"It's getting to the point that we might have to start investing more in penalty shots," chuckled Ondrej Ohradka. "It feels like a fluke, but it just keeps happening. What else can you do?"

Review:

Well Doomsday your articles are always a quality read, starting with the 2 pictures it just helps set the point, a visual for the reader to see and get an idea of what it's been like for the Phatoms. You tell us the standings for the team and who is close to them (also 7-6-5 is a funny record XD) and show both the frustration of loosing those matches but also being grateful that over time loose points are a thing. Lastly you bring us up to speed on some of the recent changes for the team, the fact that Brick Wahl and Joel Yionen are now retired and that Roll Fizzlebeef is in his last season, showing us that the team is in a bit of a transition period but is still staying competitive. 9/10
