A nice piece of GMing here by Gow to get Stropko and Light for two picks that were not used and one 1st round pick which happened to be a bust. The trade that stands out though is the Wingate trade. I am sure he wasn't going to resign in Calgary which lead to him being traded but still, would you rather go for one last run with Wingate rather than Gow who was madly inconsistent and ended up being the agents least favorite player?

Season 46 Regular Season - 72 GP | 47 W | 20 L | 5 OTL | 99 P | 232 GF | 162 GA

Despite the huge roster turnover, the Wranglers managed to do 1 point better than the season before with another 47 win output and 99 points. Shadu Rathod Jr, Tim Tebowgow and Marcus Hurley formed a very nice first line which saw them all finish with more than 90 points. Cote, Denis, Stropko and Simons filled out the rest of the forward core and all pitched in nicely. On defense, Lloyd Light went from a winger to the backend while Hill and Kerkko pitched in the best they could but were more defensive than offensive. Bernie Gow filled in decently but he was no WinGod. This team though, finished 9 points back of the 1st place NA team which meant another date in the Conference Semi-Finals.

Season 46 Playoffs - 14 GP | 9 W | 4 L  | 1 OTL

The Wranglers would play the Toronto Legion in the Conference Semi-Finals and the Legion had no business being there. Calgary made sure of that with a easy 4 game sweep. The combined score of all the games was 22-2. So yea that was a 'series'. The next series against New York was their 2nd meeting in as many years with the winner going to the Continental Cup finals. The Wranglers dropped the first game 5-2 and New York fans were going wild thinking this year was going to be different. Game 2 went to Overtime after a scoreless third period where Marcus Hurley kept building his legend in Calgary scored the OT winner with under a minute left in the 1st OT. In Game 3, saw New York mount a 4-2 comeback with two goals in the third to send the game to OT. With 6 minutes to go in OT, trade acquisition Lloyd Light scored the winner to give the Wranglers a 2-1 series lead. Game 4 was another tight game which saw Calgary win 3-2 but this gave them the dreaded 3-1 series lead. Game 5 was for all the marbles in Calgary's eyes, you want to put the Americans to bed here and not give them any momentum. After a scoreless 3rd period with only 10 combined shots and OT 1 solving nothing, we headed to Overtime #2. Griffin Simons who was merely a throw in with the Gow/Wingate swap, scored the OT winner halfway threw the 2nd OT period. Calgary was heading back to the finals for the 3rd straight season. A familiar foe awaited the Wranglers in the finals as Helsinki was able to make it back to defend their crown. The first two games were split down the middle with Helsinki taking game 1 4-1 before Calgary would win game 2 by the exact same score. Game 3 was hard fought but Helsinki prevailed 3-2. Game 4 had a bit more breathing room for Helsinki with a 5-3 win. Game 5 back in Helsinki was a do or die game for Calgary. Calgary was winning 3-2 heading into the 3rd before old friend turned enemy Jackson Miller tied the game up to send it to OT. In OT, Theo Matsikas scored his first and only goal of the playoffs which happened to be the Cup clincher.

Calgary Wranglers GM: Austin Gow

Riga Reign GM: Steve Smeall @Toast

More roster turnover as GM Gow tried to keep the Wranglers competitive with some moves to shore up a weak defense. Gow shipped out Riga's 1st and his own 3rd for defenseman FYM and Jack Jowalski.

Awards:

Season 46 Dustin Funk Trophy Winner - Tim Tebowgow

Season 46 Aidan Shaw Trophy Winner - Hans Wingate

Season 46 Daisuke Kanou Trophy Winner - Milos Denis

Season 46 Devon Marlow-Marta Trophy Winner

Overall:

The Wranglers had as successful as season as you could without winning the cup. Marcus Hurley joined some elite Wranglers company as he is the 4th player to score over 200 goals and have over 400 points. He joins Volodymyr Rybak, Clark Marcellin and Alexander Chersenko. Tyler Cote also breaks into the top 10 with 112 goals and 164 assists for 276 points. Tim Tebowgow is the 22nd person to break 200 points with his 226 points which lands him 19th. Jaimie Hill is 24th with 181 points, she is oh so close to breaking 200 points. Shadsu Rathod Jr almost broke 100 points in his first season with the club. Milos Denis comes in at 79 while Kerkko is still solid defensively but has 68 career points in 216 games. Wingate ended up 3rd in wins in the regular season with 127, he would have been 2nd if he wasn't traded. Bernie Gow ended up with 13 wins.

Tyler Cote established himself as quite the playoff performer in a Wrangler uniform with 72 points 46 games. This places him in 2nd place behind Rybak. Marcus Hurley is 5th with 54 points. Tim Tebowgow comes in at 7th with 43 points. Jaimie Hill is 11th with 30 points and Milos Denis is tied for 13th with 22 points. Bernie Gow climbs the playoff win list with 9 as he is 4th with more wins than Martin Brookside, if that means anything to you.

Overall, the Wranglers put forth a great stretch here with 3 finals in 3 years winning once. Can they keep it going with this much turnover year after year?

?  I mean, I agree for obvious reasons. But the devil's advocate argument, Gow was also a year younger, on a solid TPE pace, and the goalie hatred I don't think had fully set in yet. Plus, yeah, I was leaving given that the team was built around S40 players entering their final season.

A good article though, agree that it's a fun look back!
