Tyler 881 Posted June 25, 2014 Share Posted June 25, 2014 Season 39 VHLM Draftees Key for Outlaws In this VHLM season, only two teams have broke the 50 win plateau, and they are the Yukon Rush (59 wins) and the Turku Outlaws (50 wins). Each team has one game left to play, and both teams are the favorites in their respective conferences as of today. For the Outlaws, offense has been the name of the game with the team scoring a league high 347 goals although their goaltending has been very suspect this year, allowing 251 goals overall and if anything, will be the reason for the teams potential downfall. Turku is led by veteran players Dexter Morgan and Dimothenis Vlasis, but have significant contributions from Season 39 draftees, especially Yoji Yamazaki, who has 125 points in his draft year. Yamazaki has been one of the teams best players and is likely to be a top three pick in the upcoming mega draft, which is saying a lot seeing as no one was talking about this player before the draft. Yamazaki possesses a powerful slap shot from the point as well as a solid and smooth skating motion that has led him to be looked at as a potential future franchise defenseman who will be dominant at both ends of the ice. Yamazaki has no clear flaws in his game and at six foot four, 220 pounds, the Japanese defender is one of the most guaranteed prospects in the draft. Another Season 39 draftee who has had a solid season in the VHLM is Devin Sundberg. The Vasteras native is a sniping centreman who has scored 84 points this year and is looked at as a future second line centreman in the VHL. His biggest flaw is his ability to win face offs and as such may be better served as a winger in the VHL. He has a big body but doesn't use it really at all and is more of a permiter player. Sunberg is looked at as a late first round pick and will likely be a very good depth player for a VHL team in the future, although most scouts agree he is not likely to be a franchise defining player. Last but not least, Milos Denis has had an up and down year this year but seems to be peaking at a good time. The small and skilled winger has 73 points this season including 49 assists and has been a surprising play maker. Most often looked at as a goal scorer with scorching speed, the 18 year old Slovakian has found some chemistry with his linemates Morgan and Kincaid. At just 68 inches (five foot six), Denis will obviously have to use that speed and shiftiness if he wants to succeed at the next level. Denis' point totals have been lower than most people would have liked, but the young man remains optimistic. Scouts will obviously tell you that point totals only tell a part of the story, and despite his lackluster point totals, Denis projects to be a first line winger, but he will need talented linemates to make it work as he is not likely to be a franchise winger at this stage in his developement. The Turku Outlaws now start a long break as they wait for the winner of the VHLM European Quarter Finals to see who they will play. With most suspecting the Moscow Red Wolves will break through, fans in Finland can look forward to top Season 39 Draftee Jackson Miller coming to town in the Semi Finals. However, it is hardly set in stone as the Bern Royals will have something to say about that for sure. Either way, with the Season 39 Draft looking to be a can't miss event, the VHLM playoffs will be chalk full of draftees showing what they can do, and the Turku Outlaws may be chief among the teams showcasing their draftees.
