  1. After what has felt like an eternity spent so far this season sitting on the bench as the team's backup goaltender, it was today confirmed by the Oslo Storm that rookie goalie Arvid Aamo has been given the nod to take up the mantle of being the team's starter between the pipes for the remainder of the season. After being selected by the Storm in last season's VHLM Dispersal Draft, the (more or less) hometown kid had stepped into a situation where it appeared that he would be the clear choice as the team's main option in net, but due to reasons which haven't exactly been clear, the job was given to Emil Woods, a goalie who has been on the roster for quite a while without showing much improvement or progression but hadn't done that bad a job at holding down the role so far this season. Maybe this adequate performance was what made the team slow to give Aamo a chance, but after a consultation today followed up by a press conference it was confirmed that Aamo would be taking the reigns going forward. An exciting opportunity has arrived for the young goaltender to prove his worth to the team after being its backup for so long, it is up to him to now live up to his first impression.
  2. It's a good feeling to be back and properly active. I'm hitting all the possible TPE weekly which is nice, and hope it goes to show people I'm serious about this player. The failed ones I made post Dadonov will most likely put a shadow over me I can't really get out of, but with them I knew myself they were never going to go anywhere, whereas I feel like I can take Aamo to some big heights. Honestly, I'm happy to be drafted by anyone. The landscape of the VHL has changed a lot in my time away in terms of who's where and what teams are good, so really I'd just like to end up in a destination where I'm wanted and there's gonna be a chance for me to play. I would love to make HoF. It's a bold statement but I think Dadonov would have gone there if he'd been on better teams and I'd kept earning TPE at the rate I had, he really played an incredible game during his first few seasons. To try and get Aamo there would be a fun experience.
  3. The first 8 games of the Oslo Storm's campaign have been wholly uninteresting for rookie goaltender Arvid Aamo, largely due to the fact that he hasn't seen playing time in any of them. The Norwegian had been under the impression before the start of the season that he would be given a starting role and would have the responsibility to try and lead the Storm into the playoffs. However, things have shaken out differently, and the team has named Emil Woods as their starting goaltender in all of the first 8 games of S60. Woods has performed to a decent enough standard, keeping the team on a solid pace and in a middle of the pack position, but it remains unclear what the situation is going to be in net for the long term, as Aamo is unsure whether or not he will be getting the nod to step in and play some games during the next week or not. "I'm raring to go and eager to get out there and play some games" he told reporters this morning. "I hope the coaches give me the chance to show what I can do soon, and I'm able to get my first starts of the season under my belt". Exactly when we will get the chance to see Aamo start his first games in the VHLM remains unclear, but hopefully for him he'll soon get the nod and the opportunity to show what he is capable of.

  7. I think Martin Brodeur would be a closer comparison. But I also think they're both in a totally different league to me at present, I hope I can make some progress towards being that kind of competitor. For me, it's all about SV%. I think the defense in front of you and the number of shots they allow has a big weighting on a goalie's GAA, so I personally would always go with save percentage to give the best indicator of how a goalie is performing. I'm definitely a hybrid type goaltender, I can get down into the butterfly and make saves standing up. I think this style of play allows me to be as versatile as possible and make the kind of saves that are required. I think my shot stopping instincts are strong, I can read shooters well and have a good idea of where they're going to try and score on me. I think at this point I need to work on using my size more effectively and being more fluid and agile within the crease in order to get in front of some of the trickier shots.
  8. Following a brief stint as the backup goaltender for the Las Vegas Aces of the VHLM, in which he witnessed the team suffer a disappointing finals loss to the Yukon Rush, Norwegian goaltender prospect Arvid Aamo was entered into the S60 VHLM Dispersal Draft, with no idea or expectation of where he might end up. It wasn't totally clear what teams would need help between the pipes before the draft began, but to Arvid's great delight he was selected in the 5th round by the Oslo Storm, being the second goaltender off the board and very grateful to be spending the upcoming season playing in Norway, where his family and friends will have the opportunity to come and watch him play as often as possible. There is a lot of pressure that comes with being named the starting goaltender of a team to which you already have some connection, but Arvid appears to be very excited for this season with the Storm, as he looks to establish himself as a premier talent approaching next season's S61 VHL Entry Draft which he hopes to be a top prospect going into. It's a long road ahead for Arvid before that day comes, but being selected by the Storm is a first step in a direction that he is incredibly happy about.
  9. I look at some of the great VHL goaltenders as inspiration, the likes of Tuomas Tukio in particular are the players I aspire to be. They are the VHL's most elite however so the chances I could become that good may be slim, but I'd be losing already if I didn't set my sights high. At this point, not really. Dadonov was my GM player in Helsinki and got drafted to Quebec so going to one of them to try and remind myself of those glory days could be fun, but I'm open to joining whichever team has the need for me to be there. I touched on this in the last question but sure I'd be happy to go to a team that's maybe not in the best form right now. I'd like to go to a team that has a want for me to be there so whatever kind of position they're in doesn't come into it too much for me at this point.
  10. After going down 3-1 in the Founder's Cup Final series against the Yukon Rush, the Las Vegas Aces approached Game 5 nervously. The team was acutely aware of what was on the line and were desperate to keep themselves alive and bring the series back closer to even when they stepped out for the 5th game, and it's safe to say that no one watching until the end was disappointed. The Aces suffered 3 early goals in the first 3 periods and with ten minutes left in the game's concluding gambit it looked as if the series was over and done with and with it the Aces' season. However, the team had different ideas and managed to score 3 goals in the game's final 12 minutes to tie it up, before they got the job done in overtime with a goal that kept their dreams alive for another day. The performance by the Aces to get themselves right back into things surely returns momentum to their side and put the ball firmly in their court for Game 6. They've shown they're not going to lie down and let the Rush take the series, and if the next encounter matches up to this standard then we're going to be in for a hell of a ride. 215 words
