  1. CARRYING ON THE TRADITION Today brought the news of the declaration of VHL eligibility from a new prospect who is hoping to carry on the family tradition of achievement in hockey. Theo Karlsson, a left wing from Örnsköldsvik, Sweden is the nephew of SHL veteran Sven Karlsson and the cousin of upcoming SMJHL prospect Daniel Karlsson; although the rest of his family has chosen to pursue their dreams of hockey stardom in the SHL, Theo has opted to instead try his luck in the VHL. A goalscoring forward with a very physical side to his game, Theo brings a strong power forward skill set to the game, having the ability to both make space for his linemates to make plays by laying out big hits and winning the puck, and the skill to score big goals when required. Karlsson plays a different game to the rest of his family, with his uncle being a defensively minded forward but one who typically shies away from being overly physical, and his cousin being more of a dazzling offensive player than any sort of two-way force, and he hopes it is this edge to his game that will make him stand out early on. When asked about his decision to join the VHL as opposed to the SHL, Theo told us: "The decision I made to join the VHL was actually a surprisingly easy one for me. I've grown up watching my uncle play in the SHL and I take a lot of inspiration from him but the global nature of the VHL and the ability to make my mark and play hockey all over the world was an opportunity that was impossible to pass up on for me. I hope I'll be able to make the kind of immediate impact I'm hoping for when I play in the VHLM next season". Karlsson will be a prospect in the upcoming VHLM Draft, and although he is hopeful of going to a destination where he will be given some good opportunities eventually, he told us he understood that responsibility might not come for some time, but he was ultimately fine with that. Theo told us "I understand that it will take a lot of time to prove myself in the league and prove that I'm a serious player, who is here for the long haul". Theo has been accused of being something of a flash in the pan during his previous years, not the kind of long term investment a team feels like they can rely on for the long run. It is up to him to prove that things are different and that he can be a consistent and reliable presence. To conclude, Theo stated "I believe I have a lot to offer a team and there is plenty that I can bring to the table. There is a lot of growth required but I think there is quite clearly room for me to grow within myself and become a better player, and I intend on doing exactly that". Theo Karlsson will bring something slightly different to the table than what his family has become known for in the world of hockey, and it could prove to be an interesting journey to watch the progress of. First step, the VHLM Draft. 548 words.

  5. Not now, but maybe if life gets a bit quieter again I might start something up.
  6. I get a lil bit Genghis Khan
  7. So basically the long and short of it is I started DJing around this time last year and playing house parties and small raves for about six months now, and so decided this year to do a monthly mix series where I'd record one of my live sets every month and post it to Soundcloud. A lot of it is to help myself track my own progress and see where I need to improve but it would also be nice to have some people check out what I'm doing and give their thoughts on it. It may not be your thing but give it a whirl and who knows, it's all house/techno music so nice dancey stuff for the most part. I've put a link to February's mix below, January's is on my Soundcloud too if you want more. I'll come back and post each new one up here every month as they go online, feedback is welcomed.
  8. Canadian forward and VHLM rookie Riley Harper found himself assigned to a team a long way from home, the Oslo Storm. Riley is a good old Ontario boy, hailing from the great city of Burlington and playing his game in the good old Canadian way which meant to find out he was being sent to Norway came as something of a shock. "I was hoping to stay in Canada and play in the greatest country on Earth" Riley said, "but you can't win them all and now I'm here in Europe with the Swedish sieve and many other inferior European players. It's up to me to prove to everyone that Canada is without a doubt the superior hockey nation and the be the most exciting player on the ice in this new "world conference"". So far Riley has had mixed fortunes being played at centre instead of in his favoured win position, it remains to be seen how his growth over the season will affect his play and for that matter how much of this season he will spend in Oslo as trades may be considered, but until then, Riley is on a patriotic mission to make Canada great again (it already is great so he just really needs to stop it getting less great).
  9. Name: RILEY HARPER Position: RW Height: 6'1" Weight: 205lbs Birthplace: Burlington, Ontario - CANADA POSITIVES +Scoring: Riley is a natural goal scorer, confident with the puck, he has no problem finding the back of the net in a variety of situations. When paired up with a playmaking center Riley can create all kinds of trouble for teams, as he possesses the range of shots to put the puck behind the goalie from almost anywhere in the zone. It's expected that both the power and accuracy of Riley's shot will increase as he comes closer to playing at the VHL level, and it's advised that teams underestimate him as a scoring threat at their own risk. +Puck Handling: Considered by many to be something of a wizard with the puck, Riley possesses the raw skills to pull off a variety of tricks and get the puck past defensemen by any means necessary. His raw ability on the puck is a huge advantage for Riley going forward, as it should translate well to the VHL level when he reaches it and give him another string in his bow as he attempts to be a truly deadly offensive force. He is shrewd also with the puck, knowing how to get it to the right teammate to make a play happen, and can be deceptively strong when carrying it to due to his size advantage he possesses. +Skating: A terrific skater, in fact a former champion figure skater in his youth (but that's a story for another day), Riley is quite simply extraordinary in a pair of skates. Able to skate rings around his opponents, he has the speed and technical prowess to make anyone look foolish, and it's likely that he can't be beaten when it comes to flat out foot speed on the ice. He has a long way to go if he wants to have the same effect in the senior league when he reaches it but all signs would point to him having the skill to do just that. NEGATIVES -Physicality: Despite being of a good size, Riley is always slow to bring a physical side of his game forward, instead relying on teammates to dig in and do the dirty work while he sits back and watches. The frustrating thing about it is he probably does possess the ability to be effective with the body but he seemingly has no inclination at all to help his team out. Which brings us conveniently on to our next point.. -Attitude: Riley is a sarcastic, rude and arrogant young man who seemingly believes that whatever he says is gospel and the sun shines out of his ass. He hasn't proved to be the most coachable of players so far in his career with his ego getting in the way of his undeniable talent, and the team that picks him up in the draft will have to be ready for what is nearly always an uphill battle in getting through to him. -Experience: So far in his career, Riley has not gotten the big game experience of playing and succeeding against top opposition that would prove important at this level. He may effectively be thrown into the deep end by joining the VHLM, and it will be important to see how Riley adapts to the sink or swim scenario he now finds himself in, surrounded by some top level players in a much more unforgiving environment than he is used to. 578 words
  10. At a total loss to how to get on a VHLM team these days tbh

Depends on if your drafted or created mid season. If you were created mid-season GM's should be tagging and contactnig you with contract offers for which team you'd like to join. We used to have a waiver wire system but opted with this instead because it gets GM's interacting with newer and returning members earlier, and allows them to guide them through any changes we've made.

I think there was a thread where people were making offers to sign me but I can't find it now, then someone said I was Oslo property but nothing's happened with that so idk, so confusing

I'll sign you, come suck it up in Bern. I'll trade you at the deadline

  11. That is indeed the plan
  12. Not an awful career, always felt he could have had a truly great season if he'd played on a good team but time to make a full comeback to VHL and will be creating a new player to do just that. RIP sweet prince
  13. Honestly don't really mind where I play but this is probably gonna be my last World Cup before retiring (unless I'm barking way up the wrong tree) and I've not had a single start in my career which is a bit of a shame imo
  14. Why can't I just be released to Team Mercs and start rather than yet another backup year of not playing at all
  15. See if your goalies career save percentage looks like mine bish
  16. After a monster season on a bare Cologne team, Dmitri Dadonov weighs up his options. Not long remains in his career and so far he's yet to find himself on a legitimate contender and the appeal of free agency grows every day. Although nearly every VHL team has a set option in net, Dadonov has consistently been one of the league's best goalies since his first season with Helsinki in S49. To put Dadonov's performance in context, he finished 2nd behind Sandro Clegane in SV% by a margin of 0.001 and tied with Jakab Holik. Dadonov faced a ridiculous 900 more shots on the season than either of these two and still managed to keep pace. It's been obvious that my activity's died a lot and honestly I've really not enjoyed this season. To call the Cologne LR dead would be an understatement and I don't see where this is going at all. Dadonov only has a handful of years left in his career and after spending his entire time so far on weaker rebuilding teams I want to go to somewhere that will get my interest going again and where I'll have a chance at going for a cup. If Cologne can convince me that things can change and we can become legitimate contenders next season then I would be open to re-signing but if that isn't the case I'm going to consider all my options over the offseason.
