  1. How do you see this player working out compared to your past ones? If you could give one piece of advice to a new VHL member what would it be? After being around here for such a long time, is there anything that you still really want to achieve with one of players that you haven't yet? If you could make one change to the league what would it be? Finally, any doubts about the Rush's chances at the cup?
  2. My agent is a former Yukon Rush GM and has been very encouraging that I should consider them as a potential destination, but I'm open to playing to any team in the VHLM that needs my services! I think a goalie needs to be balanced across everything, and that's the most important factor for them. The most important thing is to be balanced and in control of what you're doing between the pipes. Tough question, I'm pretty varied when it comes to food and have to keep the options open. However, I eat a lot of pasta so if there was something I had to eat every day that would probably be it, but I'd miss pizza pretty bad.
  3. Thanks boubs I do appreciate the honest feedback
  4. The Norwegian rookie goaltender, Arvid Aamo announced his intent to join the VHLM this offseason last week, and followed it a few days later with the news that he had signed on with the VHLM's Las Vegas Aces to carry out the role of being their backup goaltender for the playoffs in S59. The Aces have had a strong regular season, finishing the league in second place behind the Yukon Rush, and will be gearing up to try and make a deep run into the playoffs, with their first series against the Oslo Storm expected to start shortly, an interesting opponent for Arvid in a team from his home nation. Goaltending is a position of strength for the Aces currently, with starting goaltender Marcel St Laurent having performed well this season, and the addition of a serviceable backup in Aamo will certainly do nothing to hurt that. The goal for the rest of the S59 season for Arvid is to learn what he can from St. Laurent, improve his own play and continue his development in order to prepare himself for his opportunity to get some starts for a team whenever that may come, and if he can win a championship along the way then that would certainly be a bonus.
  5. Willing and ready to answer any and all questions you might have for me
  6. ARVID AAMO: THE BIOGRAPHY The story of Arvid Aamo starts like all others, at the beginning. The Norwegian city of Tromsø is known primarily as a place of natural beauty, where many tourists travel every year to catch a glimpse of the celestial phenomenon known as the Aurora Borealis, or, the Northern Lights. The city itself is spectacular, being the largest settlement in northern Norway and the third largest north of the Arctic Circle, and its geographical location on an island nestled among glorious snow covered mountains makes it a sight to behold for all visitors. The Aamo family historically was one that had made its living working in the area's fishing industries, and Hans Aamo and his wife Ingrid had both grown up in the city. Hans was expected to follow his father into the fishing trade but the opening of an airport in Tromsø in the 1960s brought with it new opportunities and enabled Hans to get a job working as a duty manager in the airport. It wasn't the best paying job in the world but it meant working in an office instead of on a fishing boat, and it meant he could provide for Ingrid and their two young children, Astrid and Arvid. Arvid was the younger of the Aamo children, being a quiet and reserved character, he often managed to slip by people's attention and grew up largely in his sisters shadow. In school, Arvid was a well behaved child, always making sure his homework was done promptly and electing to sit and pay attention instead of joking around in class like some of his friends. His childhood was a steady and quiet one, but his family unit was very close and they were indeed very happy. Astrid was a much louder, confident and precocious child, whereas Arvid blended into the background more, focused primarily on his twin loves of football, a big deal in Tromsø, with their team Tromsø IL playing in the Norwegian Premiership, and hockey. Hockey in Tromsø is a rather small market however. Arvid's father had gained access to some American TV channels and would occasionally watch some of the sports games he knew nothing about to try and expand his horizons, and it was one night when he watched a NHL game with his son sat beside him that he totally accidentally planted the seed into the youngster's head that would determine how the rest of his life would play out. Arvid was instantly gripped by what he saw on the TV; the fast pace of the game, the aggression and most importantly, the fancy helmets and pads worn by each goaltender. From that day on, Arvid had a new love and would only settle for playing one position; he wanted to become a goaltender and wouldn't settle for playing any other position. His son's constant questioning about a sport he knew little about led Hans to do some research into it and found out that Tromsø in fact had its own hockey team, albeit a very small one. Interested in giving his son the chance to play the sport that he loved so much, he took a ten year old Arvid along one week to speak to the coaches there and see if he could have a chance to take part. Arvid was allowed to train with the U12 team, and soon began to pick up the basics of the sport. After some desperate pleading with his coaches, he was given the chance to try out some goalie drills and put the pads on for a training session, and to his own surprise, he turned out to be something of a natural. His instincts were great, he could find himself moving around the crease naturally and having a strong sense for where a puck was headed. After he established himself as a goaltender with his coaches, after a few months of training, he was given the opportunity to start playing games, a big achievement for someone as inexperienced in the sport as him. His progression continued to accelerate and soon after he was progressing through the ranks at Tromsø, to the point that he was playing with adults at the age of 14. Arvid's family were very happy with the way hockey had brought him out of his shell; his father enjoyed the bonding opportunities provided by taking him to his training sessions nearly every night and his sister was happy to have him out of the way so even more of the attention at home could be put on her. When Arvid turned 16 years old he had been the starting goaltender for Tromsø's best team for a year, playing at a semi professional level against experienced players, and it looked like his talent was only increasing as he delivered some of the best season end numbers of the whole league at the conclusion of the season. Arvid's family decided to make the tough decision to let him travel to Sweden to play with one of the team's in the country's professional league, so his development could continue and he could receive the level of coaching required to take him to the next level. Moving to another country at such a young age and staying with a billet family was something that took a lot of adapting to for Arvid. Naturally he became very homesick and missed life back in Tromsø immensely, but with the support of his family who made sure they were there to talk to him on Skype every day and give him the support he needed, he was able to acclimatize to his new surroundings in the city of Gothenburg, where he played for Frölunda HC and a year later established themselves as their starting goaltender, an incredible achievement for a player of his age and experience. The continued ascension of his abilities led a year later to a decision that was even more daunting for the young man; a move to join the VHL and the possibility of relocation to North America that comes with playing in such a global league. Arvid had grown up living a relatively sheltered lifestyle for the early part of his life, but now his love for and talent in a new sport had taken the unassuming young man from the small city he had known for his whole life to a truly global scale in a short space of time. A young man who has a real opportunity to make the best of himself, it's going to be one hell of a journey for Arvid to go from where he is now to where he dreams of being in the VHL one day. 1116 words.
  7. That's actually a big relief I was pretty unaware what the situation would be like going in lol, good to hear that there should be some opportunities to do well
  8. My real attempt at making my first legitimate VHL player since Dmitri Dadonov started today and I decided to create another goalie because I actually really enjoyed it last time, this one being called Arvid Aamo. I wanted to go with something unique with this player, and that started with giving him a nationality I've never used in a league before and as Norway seems like a pretty fucking cool place I decided to go with that as his homeland. Then I needed to come up with a name; the names of my last few failed attempts at making a player in this league were all shitty rush jobs I'd thought up in the space of a few minutes so I decided to actually do some research into Norwegian names and find something that sounded cool. I wanted there to be alliteration with the two names of the player and I thought the second name Aamo sounded really cool, and thus Arvid Aamo came into existence, for what I hope will be a very long time. Returning to goaltender again should be fun as I actually managed to make a somewhat okay attempt at it last time, I'm honestly looking forward to getting somewhere again with Aamo and achieving some good things I hope.
  9. Player name: Arvid Aamo Hometown: Tromsø, Norway Position: Goaltender Height: 6'1" Weight: 210lbs Team: Undrafted Hailing from the Scandinavian hockey wasteland of Norway comes a young man with aspirations to make a real name for himself and move beyond any existing doubts about his character that come from his dubious choice of player representation. Arvid Aamo is an agile goaltender with a natural ability in the net, someone who has a real instinct for making saves and can be the kind of player to give teams a tough opponent between the pipes. Although little has been seen from Aamo in his short career so far, perhaps the makings of the VHL's next great netminder lies within this unassuming young man with a lot to prove. POSITIVES +Natural Ability Aamo possesses great instincts in the net, being able to track pucks and get his body in line with shooters and the areas of the net they're targeting. He's very adept at taking on opponents in close, being able to close down the angles and take away the desired shooting area. If on occasion he is facing high pressure he can often rely on his inherent skill to pull off something spectacular and get him and the team out of harm's way for the time being. +Temperament One of the biggest assets that Aamo has is his willingness to learn and develop his game, and his unassuming nature. There isn't any sort of ego in the way that he goes about getting things done and it's to his credit that he can focus solely on his game and cast any other distractions and unnecessary wastes of time and work on improving as a player and a person. +Hockey IQ Although it's something of a cliche, it's no exaggeration to say that Aamo has a very impressive hockey IQ. He can read the game at an incredible rate and with unnerving accuracy, making him a real asset not just on the ice but in the video room when it comes to helping draw up team strategies. Aamo can bring a lot to a team beyond what he does on the ice and that's something that may help him when it comes to his future. NEGATIVES -Inexperience Spending his whole life so far in his native land of Norway, Aamo has so far had little experience against quality opposition and so it's not been too easy to judge just how much of a talent he could be when it comes to making a transition to the VHLM and eventually the VHL. It looks like he might have the basic game in place that could translate well to the level of play required for the tougher competition, but only time will tell and there is much development required before that time comes. -Size As goaltenders go, Aamo is definitely among the smaller side of those making their way in the modern game. Standing at just over 6 foot, Aamo simply isn't able to cover as much of the net as some of his opposition, leaving him at an inherent disadvantage. If Aamo can bring his level of play up to the next level to negate this then it shouldn't be too much of an issue, but for now it's something that does not stand in his favour and something that scouts could potentially hold against him. -Player Agent Aamo's controversial choice of player agent is a big question mark against his draft stock in the future. The Daniel agency has produced one good VHL player in the 4 players it has previously represented, something that GMs will be well aware of and a factor that Aamo will have to work to overcome if he is to be given a real chance to succeed. 628 words.
