Random Memories of Some of the Oldest Members Thread
Arce replied to Phil's topic in General Discussion
Ah, I still have Brooks on my Xbox friends list. Haven’t talked to him in years though. When I GMed the VHL Vasteras I remember how he begged me not to draft his second player, only to be drafted by me anyway. -
New playoff format taking place, we are in the wildcard round and have a shot! Happy to have Astro on board!

After a strong start to the season and great production by DC's core top to bottom, the Dragons now find themselves fighting for their playoff lives. They had players such as Ryan Vidot, Nezuko, Ronan Lavelle, and Darth Kaprizov on pace for career highs, Tui Sova on pace for a chance at another Beketov and just overall in a great position with many games in hand. As the Dragons played catchup on a friendly schedule, they found themselves getting blown out by teams who are not in contention such as London and Malmo. The Dragons are 4 points behind Seattle for the 3rd seed with now just one game in hand. However, they have the LA Stars nipping at their heals just 4 points back. The Chicago Phoenix have 2 less games played, and if they win the made up games could be right on DC's heels for that 4th spot. What has caused DC to go cold? The offense has gone quiet, and Utonium cannot carry the Dragons through the mud every game. DC will need to get it's shit together in their last 7 games or they may find themselves watching the playoffs, rather than competing for the Continental Cup.

Here we go! With another edition of Where Are they Now? We will take 3 random member player's from the past, talk about them and then we will discuss if the member is still active and on another player or has moved on. (S48) Unassisted - C ( @STZ) Unassisted is ironically a player who not only scored plenty of goals, but assisted on plenty as well throughout his career. Unassisted is a S56 HOF player by the one and only STZ, and found success greatly in the regular season, and in the playoffs which is something not many players can say. Unassisted started off their career with the Quebec Meute with an impressive rookie season. Unassisted would go on to finish the season with 36 goals, 43 assists and 79 total points, which is remarkable rookie numbers. This would be Unassisted's lowest point total in a season, and only one of two times they had under 100 points and 50 goals. After an impressive rookie season, Unassisted went on to win the Dustin Funk trophy for most improved player, recording 107 points. After S48, Unassisted would score 50+ goals every season for the remainder of his career. In S50 Unassisted captured the Kevin Brooks Trophy (Most Goals), netting 53 goals and a nice balance of 53 assists for 106 total points. Unassisted mimicked that point total in S51, but was able to score one more goal with 54 for the season. S52 turned out to be quite the extraordinary season for Unassisted as he was able to score 57 goals, and post up a dazzling 137 points as a member of the New York Americans. This was enough to earn them the Scotty Campbell and Brett Slobodzian Trophies after an incredibly productive regular season. As if that was not good enough, Unassisted also captured his first Continental Cup and won the Daisuke Kanou Trophy (Playoff MVP) as he recorded 28 points in 17 games played. In S53 Unassisted captured his second Continential Cup once again with the Americans. Once again posting up a high point total of 135 points, and 56 goals. Unassisted also averaged over a point per game during the S53 playoffs. Unassisted also won two gold medals with Team Canada during the S52 and S84 World Cups. Where is STZ now? STZ is currently active with one of the most successful active defenseman in the VHL in Hard Markinson. Markinson is at the tail end of his career and has posted up HOF numbers with 694 points in 572 games played, 1807 hits, and 1191 shots blocked. This is all with the Moscow Menace, who are trying to give Markinson a cup before he goes out. Markinson has hit the 100+ point mark 3 times, and has always been a beast with passing the puck. STZ looks like they have another for sure Hall of Famer cooking, what will come after Markinson?! (S50) Theo Axelsson - RW ( @solas) Theo Axelsson is a Hall of Fame right-winger of the S59 class. Axelsson is a product of the member solas, who developed Axelsson into not only a scorer, but a hard hitting one at that. Axelsson was certainly a productive player, especially in his final 3 seasons, but throughout his career he posted up 330+ hits 6 times and hit over 400 in his final season, which turned out to be his best season individually. Axelsson started off his career with the Calgary Wranglers and had a very respectable rookie season. Axelsson posted up 27 goals, 29 assists for 56 points. He also finished bulldozing opponents with 330 hits. Axelsson did not throw around the body as much in S51, recording 253 hits, but scored 28 goals, 37 assists and 65 points which were all new offensive highs for Axelsson. As a narrer of fact, Axelsson's point totals went up every single season of his career. In S53 Axelsson posted up a career high of 402 hits, a career high of 45 goals and 46 assists with his new team, the Helsinki Titans. S54 would turn out to be the best year of Axelsson's career to date in many ways. First off, Axelsson became a 50 goal scorer, netting 52 goals and recording 98 total points. He also had 363 hits, continuing his reputation as a grinder. This would earn Axelsson the Scott Boulet Trophy Winner as Top Two Way Forward. He also became a Continental Cup champion and played a huge part of that with his 25 points in 18 games played and 102 booming hits during that span. Truly a year to remember for Axelsson as he became a champion and a big reason for Helsinki's success. In S55 Axelsson's hit total took a dive with 245 but he point total climbed to 104 points! Axelsson and the Titans would also go on to go on as back to back Continental Cup Champions in S55. Axelsson also won the Daisuke Kanou Trophy honors, as the most valuable player of the playoffs finishing over a point her game and delivering 34 hits. Axelsson would also go on to win two more Scott Boulet Trophies in S56 and his final season in S57. He posted up 110 points in S56, falling just short of the 50 goal mark and posted up 352 hits. In S57 Axelsson finished as a 50 goal scorer and 113 total points. He also recording a career high with 409 hits, which is a great way to go out. Axelsson recording 15 points in 9 playoff games in his final season but the Titans fell short. Is solas still around these days? He is! Milan Dvorak is currently a, S82 pass first defenseman for the DC Dragons, and is hoping to help them get into the postseason to capture their first ever Continental Cup. Dvorak joins the Dragons after a two year stint in Helsinki. Dvorak just reached the 100 point mark of his career and has 107 in 209. Dvorak may not have gotten off to a HOF career start, but he is a big part of DC's defensive core and could beat his career high of 45 points as he has 38 so far with 7 games remaining. (S53) Fredinamijs Krigars - C ( @hedgehog337) When you think of hedgehog you think Riga since he has run the show over there for quite some time now. So it should be no surprise Hall of Famer Fredinamijs Krigars spent their whole career apart of the Reign. Krigars lit up the lamp in S53 with the Yukon Rush, recording 60 goals, and 119 points in the VHLM. A confident Krigars then had their VHL stint in S54, and it was an impressive one. Krigars would go on to post up 38 goals, 45 assists for 83 points. 12 of those 38 goals were game winners as well. Riga would only last 5 games however in the playoffs, where Krigars would score 2 goals. S55 was a big regression year in total points for Krigars as the Reign took a step back. Krigars still recorded 33 goals, but just 63 points, dropping 20 from his rookie season. He did however eclipse 100 hits. In S56, Krigars would bounce back and win the Dustin Funk Trophy for the improvement. Krigars was a 50 goal scorer, and recorded 119 total points. A huge improvement, which warranted the honors. Riga would fall short in their return to the postseason, and got bounced out in 6 games where Krigars would post up 5 points. S57 would be Krigars best year of his career individually, and as a teammate. Krigars would go on to post up 66 goals, 81 assists for a stunning 147 points. This would earn him the Mike Szatkowski Trophy for most points and the Brett Slobodzian Trophy. On top of that he would become a Continental Cup Champion. Krigars posted up 26 points in 11 games played in the postseason. The season Krigars would remember most of all without a doubt. Krigars would never fall under the 100 point mark again. In S58 he picked up right where he left off, scoring 50 goals, 76 assists and 126 total points. Another Mike Szatkowski Trophy for the Lativia forward, and adding an Alexander Beketov Trophy for most assists in the league. He also became a back to back Continental Cup Champion as the Reign were once again the top dogs of the VHL. A truly remarkable feat that is not easily accomplished. In his final two seasons, Krigars would post up 100 points in each of them. S59 would be 43 goals and 57 assists, and S60 would be 52 goals and 48 assists. This totaled Fredinamijs Krigars to 332 goals, 406 assists for 737 total points. A true Riga Reign legend. Is hedgehog still around? Not only is he GMing the Riga Reign still, he also has a defenseman for their bitter rival, the Moscow Menace! AK92 Wit da Hoodie is wrapping up his rookie season with the Menace, so far recording 4 goals, 41 assists and 45 total points. All respectable totals for a rookie defenseman Hoodie is trying to help the Moscow Menace break their cup slump and finally help GM Euron Leonidas capture his first cup? Will it be a success? We anticipate AK92 Wit da Hoodie's career as a whole will be, that's for sure. Words: 1,547 Weeks Ending: 10/16, 10/23/ 10/30

When I first came back to the VHL, Lavelle was a late first round/early 2nd round projection based on when I came in and the TPE I had at the time. I had of course been reached out to by a fair share of GM’s, but Eno was the only one who had reached out to me multiple times. This includes right before I was selected at 7th overall, he confirmed I wanted to play in DC, which of course I said I was delighted. Naturally, I did some research on my GM. How long he’s been with the team, how successful the team has been etc. I was shocked to find DC had never hit 100 points in a season, 14 seasons in at this point. DC’s best season came in S80 with 91 points. Looking at this now, I am genuinely shocked. Eno has made nothing but smart, thought out moves every season which made me excited to be apart of the organization. This leads me to believe the “mid” Dragons were under great management but have not had the grace of that Simon luck. Here I am going to breakdown all Eno’s noteworthy moves since I joined the Dragons in S82. S82: Drafts Bubbles Utonium and Ronan Lavelle The Dragons entered the S82 season needing essentially everything. They held the 2nd and 7th overall pick in a very talented and top heavy S82 draft class. The Dragons decided to select franchise goaltender Bubbles Utonium, establishing the backbone of the team. At 7th overall GM Eno Rama decided to roll the dice and select forward Ronan Lavelle. A lot of potential, but also a high risk move to select Lavelle as their franchise forward. Utonium and Lavelle are entering their 3rd season with the Dragons and so far Eno is looking great for both moves. Utonium is coming off an 11 shutout season, where she found herself as the second best goaltender overall in the league. Lavelle is coming off a 98 point season and is amongst the league leaders again in S85. S83: Draft Baxter Arcanum, Sign Tui Sova; Trade for Poopy Peepants, Corey Kitson and Taylor Mourning The S83 off-season would be a big one. The Dragons knew Bubbles Utonium and Ronan Lavelle would be making their rookie debuts, and Ryan Vidot made the change from defense to forward. But what caused the position change was a slew of moves in every aspect for the Dragons. Rama would go on to draft defenseman Baxter Arcanum 8th overall. Arcanum despite an absence from development in S84, has come back strong as ever and continues to be a big presence in the DC core. They also managed to land the big fish on the free agent market and lock up Tui Sova. Sova is coming off a 106 point, 77 assist season where he was arguably the best defenseman in the league, and certainly one of the best playmakers in the VHL. Sova is hoping to capture a championship with the Dragons before he retires. This is probably the best move Eno has made thus far. DC wasn’t done there. They also made a trade for defenseman Poopy Peepants and forward Taylor Mourning from Malmo in exchange for a pair of 1sts and 3rds. Peepants and Mourning played a big part of the Dragons success during the past two seasons. Although the Dragons lost both to New York in free agency, both were solid contributors during their time in DC and Eno was able to find more than suitable replacements. With Vancouver finally rebuilding after 3 straight cups, the Dragons decided to acquire a 3 time champion in defenseman Corey Kitson. Kitson has come across as in my opinion, one of the most underrated defensemen in the whole league. Kitson is always good for at least 60 points and hits or flirts with 20 goals from the blue line. Kitson continues to be a big part of DC’s defensive core in S85. S84: Acquire Duncan Idaho from Moscow Entering S84 the Dragons were just one elite forward away from making a serious run. Not only did Eno Rama go out and get one, but he got the best. DC traded for Duncan Idaho in his final season, and a 3rd rounder in exchange for two S84 2nd’s, Brian Schmigel and a 4th. The move paid off for DC as they finished with over 100 points for the first time, finishing with 106 and winning the North American Conference. Idaho posted up his 3rd best season, and led the way with another 100+ point season. The Dragons certainly got vintage Idaho, they still however could not get by the defending champion Bears in the playoffs. S85: Sign Nezuko, Milan Dvorak, Trade for Darth Kaprizov Losing Duncan Idaho to retirement, Taylor Mourning and Poopy Peepants to free agency, the Dragons had a lot of questions to address. Eno had no problem rising to the occasion to immediately begin patching these holes, and finding success. Eno started off free agency by replacing Taylor Mourning/Duncan Idaho with Titans forward Nezuko. Nezuko made his presence immediately known, as he has been on and off leading the league in points and goals so far with the Dragons. The Dragons also replaced Peepants with defenseman Milan Dvorak, who has been a solid presence for the Dragons recording 27 points (25 points) on the season thus far. Eno knew he had to sweeten up the forward core so he made the trade for Darth Kaprizov, who is not far off a 100 point season. Kaprizov has found immediate success with fellow new Dragon Nezuko. The Dragons find themselves in a spot to be the best team in the VHL record wise, which is a tribute to the moves Eno has made to keep DC as a top contending team. Every move he has made since I’ve been apart of the team has been rock solid. I tip my hat off to this recipe for success, and hoping for its continuation! The North American Conference has remained close as most teams are about to hit 40 games played on the season. The top 5 teams are separated by just 4 points. The Seattle Bears have remained up top with 51 points in 39 games played, and are tied with Vancouver who have 51 in 39 as well. Calgary is one point back with 50 points in 38 games played. So when Calgary makes up the game, they could find themselves ahead if they can keep pace. DC finds themselves in 3rd with 48 points in just 37 games played. If DC can keep pace, they could find themselves in 1st when they make up the games. Then you have LA with 47 points in 39 games played. LA’s play has come as a surprise to some, but they are comfortably ahead of Chicago who has just 36 points in 35 games played. It has been a disappointing season for the Phoenix so far, as they had expectations high when acquiring franchise goaltender Cole Pearce.

1. If you could choose ONE VHL franchise and change their main colours, which franchise, what colours, and why? It would have to be LA, the colors and logo are way too plain and boring. 2. When determining which logos you like the best in hockey, what is your biggest factor? Creativity? Ferocity? Badassery? How much it matches the team name? Etc. First off would have to be creativity. There is nothing like a badass logo that stands out. Matching the team name is also very important. 3. The rules of hockey change and for some inexplicable reason, the hockey gods decide that rosters can have a 21st player. All positions are allowed. What position would you have that 21st man be? It would probably be handy to have a “flex” player that can play forward or defense. So if you lose a forward or defenseman, he can step right in regardless of which position it was. 1. Has your player reached your expectations so far in S85? 2. Are you molding your player after anyone? If so who? If not, what unique build are you going for? 3. Do you prefer to visit places that are hot, or cold? Why is this your preference?

DC Dragons forward has been riding high on the DC winning streak. Whilst the Dragons have had a very successful start to the season, Lavelle has also climbed to the top of the leaderboard with 37 points in 22 games played. Lavelle is also leading the league in goals with 19. Even tho the Dragons lost forward Duncan Idaho, Lavelle still had the slick passing and skill of Tui Sova, and a reunion with Ryan Vidot. The Lavelle-Vidot pairing continues to cause headaches for opposing teams. Lavelle also finds himself in the top 10 in hits with 91. Lavelle had 40 hits all last season. Why the change? The one thing Lavelle wanted to work on during the off-season was getting more involved physically to be able to outmuscle the puck off the opponent and put more pressure on during a chase for the puck in the zone. Can Lavelle beat his career highs and stay amongst the league leaders?
