  1. Is that why this is my third player and the first to get over like 50 TPE
  2. Here Come the Wild Saskatoon easily repeating last year's regular season performance While the VHLM is known for its topsy turvy standings and ups and downs from year to year, Saskatoon has managed to do the opposite by not only keeping most of their core team from last season's second-place finish in place, but also managing to hold on to the same position in the standings that they held last year, this time second only to Oslo rather than the Aces. It's been a season everyone in the locker room can be proud of, and it doesn't look like they're going to be slowing down anytime soon following two dominant victories in their last two games played. If Saskatoon can keep up the high pressure throughout the rest of the season and into the playoffs, they should have absolutely no problem claiming second in the league at the conclusion of the regular season, and with all the growth that we've seen from this team throughout the season it's hard not to imagine that we'll be seeing the Wild in the finals for the second straight year - and hopefully with a different finish than we saw in last season's final.
  3. Daring Do Sets Sights on Hits Title Daring Do currently sits 3rd in hits with 131 on the season While linemate Gabriel McAllister has been putting up ridiculous goal scoring numbers throughout the season, Daring Do has lagged behind a bit when it comes to finding the back of the net. But when asked about her relatively low goal total this season (which admittedly is 10th in the VHLM), her reply was simply "I'm not just a one-dimensional player." Asked what she meant by that, she replied "I have linemates who can score better than I can. While I'm a sniper at heart, that doesn't mean that's all I can do out there. Look at Jake and Gabe's numbers - they're 4th and 5th in the league for hits taken. Everyone knows what our line is capable of, and they're going to look to stop us in any way they can. It's my job go out there and stand up for my teammates, to get in the way of the opponents and make them think twice about that check they're planning to lay on one of my teammates. While they go out there and put up the numbers that can help us win games, I'm going to go out there and put up the numbers that keep them on the ice by taking out anyone who gets in their way." She's done a great job of that this season, with her 131 hits putting her at 3rd in the VHLM and first on the Wild, but she says it's not enough. "There's still two guys in front of me, and I'm not going to stop until there are no guys in front of me. I want everyone around the league to know that I'm there, and if they leave themselves open to a check then they'd better be ready to take one if I'm on the ice. I'm not going to ease up on anyone ever. And you know what, I want that hits title when this season closes. Gabe can have the goal scoring title, I've got a goal of my own in mind." While it looks doubtful she'll able to take the hits title as she has only one game in hand on Augustus Gloop, whose 186 hits for Yukon lead the league right now, and Rask Rowe of Vegas has three games in hand on her with 160 hits on the year. Either way, it's a good sign for Saskatoon that Daring Do has been putting up such big hits numbers to help keep possession of the puck for her team, and to help keep her teammates on the ice rather than on the team's injured list.

  6. Rookie Profile - Daring Do: Hailing from the Amazon Rainforest, Daring Do is the league's only Brazilian player - and perhaps the first in league history. At 6'6" and 217 pounds, Daring Do could end up being a force to be reckoned with. While Brazil is not a country known for its hockey prowess, Daring Do has said she is ready to come in and make a different right away at the age of 26. Donning the number 77, she impressed some scouts at the combine with her flashy speed, among other aspects of her game, and it looks like she could be a surprise steal for the VHL's Toronto Legion when she finally makes the jump to the big leagues. So what is there to say about Daring Do's game? STRENGTHS: While many counted her out going into the VHL draft, Daring Do actually has a lot of upside to her game. Blistering Speed: Daring Do likes to say that in the air, she's one of the fastest she's ever seen - "second only to one," and she's made a point of translating that speed to the ice. While she's not able to use her wings to her advantage in the hockey rink, she's worked hard to get all four hooves moving as quickly as possible so that she can fire off a shot in the offensive end, then quickly turn and head back to the defensive end to break up whatever play has started to develop there. She looks to play a two way game, and her speed helps her out immensely in doing that. A Sniper's Eye: When you watch her play, it's immensely clear that Daring Do wants to be the one putting up big offensive numbers - and she has the skills to pay the bills. With her shot clocked at 89 miles per hour coming into the draft with room still to grow, it's hard to imagine what her shot could look like just a few seasons down the road. Combine that with her ability to pick the open corner of the net that the goalie inadvisably left free for her to take, and you've got a player goalies everywhere are going to be afraid of when they see she has the puck. Bone-crushing Hits: If you were to ask Daring Do what aspect of her game she was most proud of, she'd look back at you with a twinkle in her eye and tell you it's the way she's able to lay her opponents out on the ice. While she has a strong shot and amazing speed, that's not what she wants to be most known for - and it shows. While playing in the prospects showcase prior to the draft, it only took a few hits before her opponents were ducking out of the way, trying to avoid being in a position where she might be able to make them pay for trying to hold on to the puck. WEAKNESSES: Of course, as Miley Cyrus reminded us in one of classic songs before she went absolutely insane, nobody's perfect - and Daring Do is no exception. Discipline: While she's made a point of being strong-headed and hard on the puck, this does have its drawbacks in many situations. Daring Do refuses to hold back, even when it might be to the benefit of her team to ease off a little bit, putting her and her teammates in compromising situations, often resulting in her spending two in the box. While she's not one to get into fights, that won't stop her from trying to get under her opponents' (and the referees') skin. So while you're going to get a player who wants to hit hard, you're also getting one who won't take her foot off the gas, even after being warned by the officials. Playmaking: Speaking of not someone who doesn't like to listen to others, you've got another problem here with Daring Do. While she's got a blistering shot, she often refuses to give up the puck to others. This can be an issue when she doesn't have good positioning for a shot, but her teammates do. She's more likely to still take that bad angled shot and go for her own shot at glory, rather than trying to set her teammates up for a good chance. With time her playmaking ability will likely develop, but she's always going to be putting herself ahead of her linemates - and that's something scouts and GMs are going to want to keep in mind when looking at her play. Small Stature: For a physical player, Daring Do is actually not all that strong. While she puts in reps trying to build up her muscle mass and increase her overall strength both on and off the puck, there's only so much she can do for someone who's in reality a completely different species than the other players she finds herself up against on a nightly basis. Unlike the other two weaknesses listed here, which have the potential to develop with time, it's likely that Daring Do is going to find herself at a loss when it comes to her relative strength throughout her VHL career.
  7. Coming into the season I really wanted Daring Do to be a strong physical presence first so as to contributed defensively to her team's success and kind of have scoring as a secondary component of her game, but that's kind of shifted. I was putting points in the usual suspects (skating, defense, etc) to make sure she'd be able to keep up, and by the time I was done getting those where I wanted them to be I kind of realized she was already hitting more than her teammates. And you know what, that's good enough for me. So now Daring Do is going to try to catch Gabriel McAllister's goal total. Well, not really - let's be honest, that's completely impossible. But because of Saskatoon's lack of shots recently, it seems that trying to get her to start scoring more could be a huge help to the team, and would probably make her more interesting as a player (more two-dimension and Evander Kane-like, rather than just someone who hits all the time and shoots occasionally). Plus that would probably also make her more fun to build. Personally I'm looking forward to seeing how the rest of this season goes for her, here's hoping Saskatoon can pick up a cup!

  12. Gabriel McAllister celebrates his league-leading 24th goal of the season It's been a long season for Saskatoon, filled with ups and downs as they try to hold on to second place in the VHLM, clinging to the memory of last season's championship series against Las Vegas. Nobody in the room wants to go home early this year, and leading the way both on and off the ice has been Gabriel McAllister, whose league leading 24 goals in 25 games have been the talk of the league. But while his numbers have been legendary, the real story has been his contributions outside of games. Every practice, whether it's a game day or an optional practice, McAllister will be the first one in and the last one to leave. From the moment practice starts he's out there taking charge and ensuring everyone else is staying on track. If someone needs help or wants to practice a specific part of their game, he'll head right on over to lend a hand. He's not just focused on improving his own game, he's just as intent on improving everyone else's. "He brings 110% every day, even when he doesn't have to," commented teammate Daring Do. "It's been amazing playing alongside him, he's truly one of the league's all-time greats. He's the glue that holds the rest of this team together. It's great, he shows up every day with a smile on his face, even when things were at a low point for us. It's hard to come to practice every day when you're getting outshot every game. Even when we took that one game with a 1-0 win in the shootout, we know we didn't deserve it. 6 shots isn't going to cut it. But Gabe, he didn't let it get to him. He was still right out there first thing the next morning, taking reps and working on improving himself. A guy like that, it does a lot for the team's morale." With Saskatoon sitting comfortably in second place, it's not hard to see how much of an impact McAllister has had throughout this season. There's a reason you see so many of his jerseys in the crowd, and it's the same reason all of his teammates look to him in the locker room. He's a leader in every sense of the word. While it's almost certain that McAllister will be leaving the VHLM after this season as he pursues his life long dream of a VHL career, his mark on the franchise and the minor league on the whole is one that will last for long after he last steps on the ice in a Wild jersey. And if he has anything to say about it, that last step on the ice for Saskatoon is going to be taken with the cup held high. @CowboyinAmerica
