  1. While many expected Saskatoon to have high amounts of success coming into this season, the team has stumbled as of late dropping numerous important contests against key VHLM opponents, often due to a general lack of effort from the team's skaters (notably, the team was able to win a 1-0 contest recently despite only taking 6 shots throughout regulation and the five minute overtime period). Obviously the fans, coaches, and players are unhappy with the recent turn of events, calling recent games "unacceptable" despite still sitting comfortably in second place in the league. What needs to be done to turn things around? "We need to start putting in an effort," said Wild forward Daring Do. "This isn't about a 60-minute game or anything like that - this is about having respect for not only our opponents, but ourselves. We can't be going out there and getting outshot night after night. That 6-shot game was bad, but it's not like getting outshot 30-15 or something like that is much better. When it comes down to it, being outshot means we aren't allowing ourselves to be put in a position to win every game. And that can't happen. Not in today's VHLM, where anyone can hold their own and take a best of 7 series. We can't be letting teams have that chance against us - not in the regular season or in the playoffs." Jake Scheel echoed her remarks. "Obviously we're not even close to done yet, and we're in a pretty good spot in the standings, but if we're going to go out there and just let them skate at us and do nothing about that, what are we going do when the playoffs come? We can't allow a laid back or negative culture to seep its way into our dressing room, and resolving the issue starts with each and every one of us right there in the locker room. The fans aren't going to want to come out and watch us just sit back on our heels and let the opponents come to us - we need to make sure we're taking it to our opponents every single night." While Saskatoon currently sits in second place with 28 points, the Oslo Storm seem basically untouchable up in first with 43. More pressing is the team on the other side of the standings, the Ottawa Lynx sitting in third with 22 points on the season so far. Saskatoon is more than catchable, so struggling like they have been thus far could potentially be a death sentence for them as far as the standings go. But as the immortal words of the Electric Light Orchestra tell us: "We slip, we stumble, and we all fall down. Pain won't last, this too shall pass."

  7. So I was looking at the index to decide what to write today, and noticed something interesting - 14 games into the season, my player, Daring Do, sits at 6 goals and 6 assists. Slightly disappointed that she can't have a stat line of 6-6-6 since her points have to be 12 in that case, my eyes slid over to another column - the +/-. Here I noticed that she currently sits with a nice and neat +6 on the season, and thus a nice 666 across the board. What does this mean? Perhaps it means that Daring Do is literally satan. Or maybe it just means that somehow the stars happened to align in such a way that her stat line sits poised perfectly on the day I chose to write my article. Either way it's pretty amusing and something that will likely change after this upcoming set of games, whether she picks up a point or is on the ice for a goal, for or against. Just a weird thing I noted when looking at the stats for Saskatoon on my way to write a longer article, and figured I'd throw together a brief VHL.com article about it.

  10. Triple Threat of McAllister/Scheel/Do Proving to be Lethal for Saskatoon The Saskatoon Wild currently sit 4 points back of first place Oslo with a game in hand, and a big part of their success this season has been the lethal triple threat that is Gabriel McAllister, Jake Scheel, and Daring Do. These three forwards make up the team's first line, and have 17 of Saskatoon's 30 goals between them. Their performance has not gone unnoticed, especially since McAllister's explosive performance leads the league in goals, and the chemistry between them has really been what allows them to put up such big numbers night in and night out. What especially makes this line so lethal is that the trio is an extreme triple threat - between McAllister's laser shot leading the team in goals, Scheel's quick hands and puck moving ability leading the team in assists, and Do's physical presence leading the team in hits, the three have proven they can handle any challenge that comes their way. As long as these three keep on clicking all the way into the playoffs, this team is going to be extremely lethal in the postseason and have a strong chance to contend for the cup this year.
  11. Strong Start for Saskatoon Coming from Good Team Play Gabriel McAllister buries his team leading 8th goal of the year After falling short last season in an impressive finals performance, the players of the Saskatoon Wild had one message: "Never again." They made it clear that, while proud of all they had accomplished throughout the season, coming up short like this would not happen again. Failure was not an option for the new and improved Saskatoon Wild, and nothing short of a cup would be satisfactory. Coming out of the gate this season they've shown that they're one of the money teams this season, sitting pretty in second place in the VHLM. Their 3-1-1 record is impressive on its own, but even moreso when you consider the fact that one of those wins was the season opener against the Oslo Storm - the team's only loss to date. So what has been the main factor in Saskatoon's success this season? Teamwork. While last season's performance was strong, it doesn't quite stand up to what we've been seeing from this season's team. Currently all but one of the team's rostered players sits with a positive +/-, with a few of the practice squad members who fill in from the bench from time to time sitting with minuses. These numbers span from Daring Do's +1 all the way up to Emil Martinov's +8, leaving nine of Saskatoon's ten players with positive differentials. At the same time, while McAllister is clearly running away with the scoring race for the league already in this very young season, Saskatoon already has seven players with goals this season. Just five games in that's exactly what you're going to want to see from up and down the roster if the Wild are going to have any hopes of possibly winning it all this year. This is also a team that has shown a willingness to throw down the body for one another. Daring Do leads the team right now with 14 hits. Primarily playing on a line with McAllister and Jake Scheel, her physical presence has allowed the other two forwards to make plays and put up numbers for the Wild - although both of her linemates have shown they too have a willingness to get dirty when need be (with 7 and 4 hits in five games, respectively). And then we have the unselfish play of the defenders, and here I'd say it's prudent that we look at the play of two in particular - Ay Ay Ron and Emil Martinov, both of whom are splitting time on the blue line with Aeschylus Jigglejawns CXX as well as spending some minutes with one another. Both Ay Ay Ron and Martinov have managed an impressive seven blocked shots each through five games, which has left Brienne O'Tarth with a much easier job between the pipes. So what does this all mean? Will these numbers hold up? Probably not, we're just five games into the season so really anything could happen. But hey, things are looking pretty good, aren't they?
  12. I clicked on all of @Green's posts and commented on those games
  13. Oh, did I? I checked when the rosters were first posted and haven't checked again since lol. Yeahh I always planned on being more active with this player than the last two, but SHL has taken up way more time than I planned on. So I made sure to keep getting that 2 TPE to stay afloat until I could actually write articles again.
